  1. Just preaching the reality of the situation. Very few step into pro and dominate. Virtanen needs to adjust to a pro game, going back to junior will do nothing for his development. Many of his assets are NHL ready, he just needs to put the pieces together. I'm very confident he'll become a special player for us. Patience is what I recommend.
  2. Love it. Many haters expectations of this kid are far too high. He has the potential to be a physical, offensive top 6 forward. People need to be patient.
  3. Okay so he had a bad game because he did those things? Yes? Well he also had a good couple scoring chances, made some nice plays, and threw a couple hits. Those things are facts too, I'm just ignoring the negatives. Can I say whoever doesn't agree with me is delusional? Before this goes any further, my point is he played a decent game considering how scrambly the team performed. Not great and not terrible, just decent or good. Once again, my expectations of him are higher.
  4. He threw a couple hits in the first, but was very much absent physically from there on out. He made some nice passes and a couple good opportunities to score, but there were turnovers for sure. Overall when you consider how scrambly the game was, he played good. Again, I do expect more though.
  5. If I don't agree with you I'm delusional? First of all, the entire team played poorly. The majority of the team made plays that resulted in turnovers. I agree his defensive play wasn't the best and he didn't show up physically tonight, but considering how scrambly the game was, he played a decent game. However, I do expect more from him.
  6. Boeser's third period was as good as his second. I'm not sure if he got an assist or not on the Mathews goal, but either way he plays very well with the guy. Boeser's defensive play was on display again.
  7. Virtanen's third was better. Made some nice passes, but lacked on the physical side. On a side note, it was interesting to watch Virtanen and Boeser match up.
  8. Boeser's second was much better. IMO, no coincidence he started playing better after being moved back to the first line. Boeser's passing skills are very underrated. His defensive play doesn't get enough love either. He didn't get many scoring chances, so hopefully we see some in the third.
  9. Both teams picked up their games a bit, but neither side appears to hold any consistent pressure.Virtanen's game was better, but I'm left wanting more. He has the ability to cause turn overs and he's not doing that at all right now. He needs to get back to checking guys (doesn't necessarily have to be big hits). Just push the puck carrier off balance and make a play. Considering the game is tied, I expect his game to elevate in the third.
  10. Boeser wasn't noticeable at all. Both teams look nervous though. The second period should be better.
  11. First period for Virtanen was slow. Although, both teams look slow and nervous. Not much else to say. I expect a better second.
  12. It really isn't that big of a deal. Just because he's not wearing an "A", doesn't mean he's behind in his development (or whatever criticism people want to make).
  13. Spot on Boudrias. A lot of fans want immediate results because he was drafted so high, but many fail to realize we need to all just step back and let him grow in the best environment for his development. Logically, it's obvious that it's pro-hockey. He has an NHL frame, NHL power and strength, an NHL shot, NHL skating, etc. If we send him back to junior, he's not going to learn anything and he wont improve next year IMO. Right now, he's adjusting his game to play the junior style again and IMO, that may be enough for him to come back and make a difference (temporary step back). I feel it's best to keep him in the NHL for the remainder of this year because he will progressively earn more minutes as he improves. Then next year we can send him to Utica to play a larger role if need be. I know a lot of people are in doubt, but all I ask is be patient. We truly have an excellent player and in 2-3 years we'll be laughing. Quote me if you'd like.
  14. Great 3rd by Virtanen, and overall an excellent performance against one of the better rivals in this tournament. I'd give him an A- overall.
  15. Another excellent period for Virtanen. I'm really loving the patience in his game, and his timing at making changes is underappreciated IMO.
  16. Excellent first period for Virtanen
  17. Patience people. Patience is key.
  18. Just be patient. Kane breaking out his first year and Virtanen potentially failing to break out his first year don't mean anything. They're two completely different people, and some players need time to adjust to pro hockey. Look at Shinkaruk, one year of pro hockey in the AHL and he already looks like he can handle his own against anyone. Then look at McCann, he can handle his own already and he's producing. Sure, they're not really comparable to Virtanen, but look at Guance. Same idea, after one year of pro hockey, he already looks like he understands the pro game and he's pushing for a spot. Prospects are different and adjust to the pro game differently. Makes me wonder why some fans are so concerned about Virtanen right now. The only time I'd be concerned is if he had failed to up his game before the end of his ELC. Then you can pretty much right him off. I personally think Virtanen will make the team this year and he'll break out the same way Horvat did. His hitting game is exceptional and his positional play is sound. The offense will come. Edit: As for the penalties, blame rookie mistakes. The way he plays will involve penalties once in a while, but give him time and he'll learn the NHL game.
  19. Love it. Cassels was alright, but if Guance plays like he did Friday, he will complement Virtanen and McCann very well IMO.
  20. First of all, his stats this year disagree. He focused more on making plays this year than scoring goals. Nevertheless, he’s likely to become that player since he’s a sniper. The trick is to utilize his skills with complementary skills he does not possess. AKA, a playmaking centerman (potentially McCann, Cassels, Horvat). Regarding that one play you’re talking about. If I recall correctly, he had just finished hitting someone and started rushing after the puck, knowing that another player was about to take it. So because he got there first, he quickly dangled the guy and got it on net as quick as he could. Maybe his intentions were for a rebound but the goalie ended up controlling it. People make mistakes, nobody’s perfect. There’s no sense in judging a prospect by one play. Look at how often he hits (usually destroys) and stands up for teammates. His balance, strength, endurance, speed, stamina are off the charts for his age. That’s going to be crucial if he becomes a first line guy. Just be patient, his offensive skills are there and they are not going anywhere. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised if he makes the team this year. Don't worry, no one's swaying my enthusiasm for this kid. I've been a huge supporter from day one, and I can't wait for him to hit pro full time so doubters can really see what we've got in him.
  21. Jumping in here. To the people complaining about his hockey IQ, what about it is concerning to you?
  22. I can't wait for Virtanen to start making an impact. If he hits his potential, he's going to be lethal. It's hard not to see him become a 40 goal scorer. He's got all the tools, many NHL ready. At 19. I personally believe it's a mistake to send him back to junior next year, BUT, if he's a defensive liability then we have no choice.
  23. I'm with you man. I wish there were more Canuck fans out there like you. Just give the kid a chance. Still can't believe people write the guy off before he's even played an NHL game.
  24. He's looking good for sure. Big hits, plus a nice set up on that PP goal. Edit: not to mention he drew the penalty
