  1. The fact that Virtanen's work ethic is 50 times better than Kassian is pretty encouraging.
  2. I guess I'll start by reminding everyone of how Desjardins didn't even entertain the thought of Horvat making the team for the simple reason of him being a teenager. It's his mature, defense-first, faceoff-strong, penalty-killing, and, quite simply, safe game that made Willie decide to keep him. Virtanen is a hell of a player but he is not nearly as mature as Horvat (few kids are), needs some work on defense, and isn't a faceoff specialist or penalty killer. Ask yourself, first of all, if Desjardins would put this player in the lineup. I highly doubt it. Virtanen is still a very raw prospect and he is far from having a complete game. He shouldn't make the NHL simply because he's faster than some other player and has good size. There's more to the NHL than that. I truly believe that another season in the WHL, with a proper offseason of training, is what he needs. I would love to see him as soon as possible, but I don't think next season is that year. Not unless his development takes a massive (and I mean massive) step forward post-World Juniors.
  3. Is there ANY way to hide scores on the front page of NHL.com? This is the second time I've been screwed by getting the score spoiled for games I had planned to watch afterwards.

There is a button to turn the scores off. I'm not sure if it will stay off next time you go on though

      Thanks for the replies.

AJ: I use GCL so I need to sort of go on NHL.com.

Pine: That's the lame part. I have it turned OFF but the front page is always ON.

MRD: Yeah, that makes it less suck-y.

  4. Bobby Mac (and everyone else) a fan of the line shuffling by Groulx. http://www.tsn.ca/video/wjhc-groulx-tweaks-lines-in-win-over-germany-1.169151
  5. Here are the highlights of Virtanen's performance in today's game. I kept the clips short so the video is only about 1.5 minutes long. They aren't all positive highlights either. One is a turnover and another is him being rocked pretty good at the blueline. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5iXkC7d9D_k Of note is the play at the 45 second mark. He toe drags, the German defender slides into the boards, Virtanen doesn't pass to either of his linemates who are wide open in front of the net, and tries a shot from a tough angle.
  6. My stream's quality was poo all game. I don't know if I'll do a shift-compilation but will try to do a highlight if the quality isn't completely unwatchable.
  7. I think I've had this conversation before but I'll reiterate. I think that he will be a full time RW in the pros. He has already made the switch with the Hitmen, playing exclusively as a RW. I don't know how much sense it makes to then move him back to his off-wing when he moves into the professional ranks, after consecutive years of development on the right side. He has experience on the LW so he will be able to take that spot if necessary. But, again, I think he will be an every day RWer. That gives us RW depth of Virtanen, Jensen, Kassian, and Vey as potential top-6. The only pure LW potential top-6 is Shinkaruk. If centres (McCann, Gaunce) move to the left wing, then our centre depth gets depleted and we all know how important that is to rectify.
  8. Woops! Fixed it for you guys. :D
  9. Here's Virtanen's game against Slovaka. I had to switch streams early on so you'll notice a sudden change in quality. As was the case with the last video, I apologize for the craptacular quality. For people who understand this stuff, I recorded at 13,000 kbps and 60 fps and it still turned out this way. My video rendering settings are also 10 Mbps and 60 fps... That's how poor the quality of the stream is. /endexcuses https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7lHBiefnUI EDIT: For those who just want to see the goal, the play starts at about 12:45.
  10. This person https://www.youtube.com/user/bigwhite06 should have it up soon. He uploaded the last Virtanen goal so I'd assume he'd do the same again. If not, my shift-compilation has finished uploading and I'm just watching to make sure it's edited correctly. My video's quality is absolute garbage though (due to my "method" of watching the game), so you'll have to excuse that.
  11. Mark Masters @markhmasters Canucks prospect Jake Virtanen: "When the flag is rising & you're standing with the boys ... it's a great feeling. You never forget that."
  12. I will have a shift-compilation (in poo-quality) uploaded in the next hour or two. Virtanen with a monster game.
  13. Virtanen: We made a statement tonight Vancouver Canucks prospect & Canadian World Junior Forward Jake Virtanen joined the TSN 1040 Evening show to talk about Canada's 6-0 win over Switzerland. http://www.tsn.ca/radio/vancouver-1040-i-1410/virtanen-we-made-a-statement-tonight-1.167396
  14. His speed? His ineffectiveness offensively? I don't mean to hate on the guy, he's a great defensive player who has good pro size (6'4") and will be a good player in the pros. It's just... he doesn't compliment Virtanen's playing style which has a big emphasis on speed and the rush. As for Ritchie, I want to see them together as well. They both skate well, are big, love to run guys over, and can score. The only issue is that Ritchie isn't going to drop down and Crouse isn't going to move up. So it would be up to Virtanen to play a lot better than a RW in front of him.
  15. It's not much, but here's the call on the radio broadcast for his goal: https://soundcloud.com/team-radio-interviews/sui-can-virtanen-beauty-goal-4-0-can
  16. Radio guys flattered that goal again. Can't wait to see the "live" broadcast version. EDIT: Now more praise for his physicality. :- ) Haha, I hope someone can change the subject quick. DeAngelo's height listed at the combine is 5'10.5 so Nylander is taller but not by a whole lot.
  17. Jake with a very strong game, albeit taking a couple penalties (one of them for coming to his teammates defense). The rest of his line, though... Man, what a buzzkill. That would be me. Until I see a picture of them standing side-by-side, and with just that photo of them "sitting in a chair" (I know, not the clearest comparison) I can't imagine him being any bigger either, to be honest.
  18. Heard from someone he power-moved his way past a defenseman and roofed the puck from right in front of the net. Salivating over here. Must... see... it... Yeah, I can't really argue with your first point. Both players are doing well for themselves but one of them has to suck or something. At least it often seems that way around here. Agreed. Gotta respect McKenzie's input, and anytime it's about the Canucks and it's positive... Well, that makes me feel warm inside.
  19. Definitely "sounded" like it. Radio guys were raving about it.
  20. WHY CAN'T I WATCH THIS GAME!? WHAT HAVE I DONE TO DESERVE THIS! Someone is going to upload this one...!
  21. He was a great presence on the Swedish powerplay and 4-on-4, but he was quite lackluster at 5-on-5. I wouldn't go as far as saying he was "invisible" the entire game but he was a little underwhelming at 5-on-5. EDIT: I'm talking about the CAN vs SWE game of course.
  22. Good lord, I am having issues with my posts. Sounds like Virtanen had a good period and was involved in offensive opportunities quite a bit. Didn't hear a lot of his linemates names being called though. http://www.gettyimages.ca/detail/news-photo/top-row-thatcher-demko-brendan-perlini-sam-bennett-leon-news-photo/451276702 There he is between Virtanen and DeAngelo. Virtanen is 6'1 and DeAngelo is listed as 5'10. He is tiny compared to Virtanen and actually looks a little shorter than DeAngelo...
