  1. Horvat vs. Arizona https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjzNlt6d2ek A little later than usual. Horvat had a terrific game. Sure, it was against the worst team in the league (well, one of them) but they're still a team of veteran players in the best league in the world.. The only negative was that he didn't do well in the faceoff dot. I think he finished sub-40% as he took most of his draws against Hanzal.
  2. As others have pointed out, Horvat joining the team would not have affected any of the wingers. Gauthier was believed to be the one who would be bumped out of the lineup if Bo were to join. Horvat is better on faceoffs, just as good defensively, and is actually a two-way forward. EDIT: Never mind, you mistook Virtanen for a centre.
  3. I'm in the group that does think he possess great scoring prowess but also believes he will need to play another role on this team. I think highly of Virtanen's future potential as a professional player, but right now he's the fourth line winger on a stacked Team Canada roster. He has not played any better than the RW in front of him and so there's no reason to move him up and disrupt other lines. Honestly, I hope Team Canada never has to think about changing the lineup because it will mean we are doing well. (I do wish he'd get some 2nd unit power play time, but that's a secret... Maybe coach can give him a look if they're up by a few against the Swiss...) Sorry to play mini-mod, but the entire bolded area could have been posted here if you were worried about people thinking you were starting something.
  4. *WARNING* The quality is crap. Absolute garbage. (I recommend setting the quality to 720p and viewing on the small video player. It still looks awful but you should be able to make out the one right-handed forward. Maybe even the #18...!) Of note is that despite 9 powerplays combined in the game, and Virtanen getting ZERO special teams minutes, he still got about 9 minutes of ice time. That's low obviously, but it's relatively normal fourth line ice time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vP-UQo5AFD4
  5. Given what he got in terms of ice time, which was little, I thought he actually did quite well relative to the opportunities he received. His line wasn't quite as effective as they were against the Russians and were in their own end a lot more, so they couldn't get in on the forecheck to wreak havoc in the offensive zone much. Virtanen did try to make a couple hits but sort of let up on them. One was when the Swedish defender went back for a puck. Virtanen caught up to him but couldn't go through with a big hit because the defender was in a bit of a dangerous spot away from the boards.
  6. Say what you want, that line of Crouse-Gauthier-Virtanen was really good against the Russians. We can all hope Virtanen plays with the high-end skill guys, but if that line continues to play well you can bet the coach will try to keep the trio together.
  7. According to NHL.com, Bo had 9:16 TOI tonight so I don't know where I missed a shift. Oh well... Here is every other shift he had in the game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4U9J5OlcjA
  8. Yeah, nobody gets "scratched". Like Fabbri had started last game, there is a 13th forward. In any case, I'm not sure where you are hearing this stuff from. Neither Bob McKenzie, Mark Masters, or Stephen Whyno (who are covering Team Canada) have said anything about this.
  9. I remember hearing/reading that Green wants Gaunce to learn to take advantage of his size on a consistent basis. Said playing the wing would help him with that.

ANYONE is an improvement over Mark Lee.

Not saying that I haven't liked Romanuk, though.

Going to miss him with the Spengler Cup this year.

  11. Absolutely. It would have been great to see him play top 6 but this just means we have a very talented group this year. I don't see one of their rare right-shooting RWers moving away from that wing so I see Virtanen in the bottom 6 the whole tournament.
  12. Especially after Point's game today. He got PP time, played in the top-6, and even took some of Virtanen's shifts (once in the first and a couple in the second). Yet he was still very quiet. Like I mentioned on the last page, I just don't see him doing enough to surpass Duclair or Lazar on the RW depth chart... to start, at least. I would say it's a bottom-6 battle between Virtanen and Point, though Jake did have a good game alongside Crouse.
  13. Right wing options: Duclair, Lazar, Point, Virtanen. He will be a bottom 6 to start, for sure. Using CDC logic? Yep.
  14. Chartier, Dal Colle, and Dickinson get cut. Congrats on making the team Virtanen! :- )
  15. If Dickinson goes, Gauthier is going to centre the fourth line. Hopefully Virtanen can find a way to stay on the third line at least.
  16. Was disappointed to see Virtanen without a shift in OT, but you could tell that was going to be the case seeing how the coaches used their players today. Would have been neat to see Crouse and Virtanen out with some open ice. Oh well... I thought Ritchie was, relatively speaking, quiet tonight. He wasn't bad but he certainly didn't have that "Nick Ritchie-energy" we've seen him play with during other international-type games (summer evaluation camp and Super Series). The IIHF rules and stuff definitely had an impact but, aside from an early hit on (I think) Goldobin, he was barely involved physically, which was a shame. It'll be interesting to see if he plays with Fabbri and McDavid next game, as that line was dynamite during the evaluation camp this past summer.
  17. Yeah, worse than Chartier who had his name mentioned twice. First to say he is a bubble guy and scored lots in the WHL this year. Second to say he is a bubble guy and scored lots in the WHL this year.
  18. My favourite thing about TSN1040 are the hosts that laugh and giggle at their own jokes.

  19. Virtanen on with Sekeres and Price. No individual clip yet so here's the hour when he was on. http://www.tsn.ca/radio/vancouver-1040-i-1410/sekeres-and-price-dec-18-hour-4-1.163262 Starts at about 38:40.
  20. Demko: Unlikely that I'll go to the WHL Vancouver Canucks prospect Thatcher Demko joined Matt Sekeres and Blake Price on Canucks Lunch to talk about his time at Boston College and the prospect of playing some games in the WHL. http://www.tsn.ca/radio/vancouver-1040-i-1410/demko-unlikely-that-i-ll-go-to-the-whl-1.163221

OMG Schneids has 2 wins in 9 games! PANIC!

  23. At this point, the debate is about which line he will be on as well as special teams.
