  1. Late to the party but Helgeson being out for the past 2 games has shuffled that top line. Looks like the top line is now Rankin-Tambellini-Lang. I haven't seen or heard the game today but I'm assuming he's playing with Fazleev and Karnaukhov. Anybody know for sure?
  2. Post Cereal Feature: Petan vs Virtanen http://www.hitmenhockey.com/video/45441
  3. You're making Virtanen out to be a shoot-only guy with no ability to make plays. Which is wrong. Yes, he's more of a shoot first guy but that isn't to suggest he cannot help set up his teammates. He made a play (relatively) recently where he skated down the left wing with speed. He was able to attract the attention of both defenseman and he used his peripheral vision to track Helgeson skating towards the front of the net. As he was skating around the net (still with everyone mesmerized by him) he backhanded the puck to the net-front area where Helgeson was able to tap in a goal. There are many more players who finish with more assists than goals. If you have a guy who is exceptional at doing something that is perhaps lacking by other players, that sounds like a darn good complimentary piece to me.
  4. Matthias, Richardson, and Vey each have 3 points and are +4, +3, and +3 respectively in the past 2 games. Personally, I wouldn't change that line (or scratch Richardson) for the sake of "seeing if a couple rookies can find chemistry on the fourth line".
  5. All Your "Bass" Are Belong To Us

  6. He has also stated on occasion that his favourite player (and who he models his game after) is Rick Nash. Well, the Nash thing seemed to be more of a comparable than an outright "favourite player". He's probably using current players so everyone knows who he's talking about. It's sad to think that there are people who don't know "Naslund" but that's how things are now...
  7. Connauton wasn't an overage player in junior.
  8. What happened on his second goal? The highlights on the Hitmen website doesn't show it...
  9. http://hitmenhockey.com/video/45245 0:00 - Jake's first goal is the first clip of the video. Virtanen was basically free to skate around the net for a wrap-around goal. 1:37 - Uses his size and speed to get passed the Giants defenseman for a backhand shot stopped by the Vancouver goalie. For some stupid, stupid reason the highlights end at the 5-2 goal. Jake scored the next goal in the game but too bad for us.
  10. Virtanen had another goal as the Hitmen lost 6-3 to the Giants 2g , +2 , 2PIM 17GP 7g 12a 19pts +3 26PIM
  11. Fazleev, probably their third most talented forward behind Tambellini and Virtanen, doesn't even play with them. At least not at 5-on-5. The top line is Virtanen-Tambellini-Helgeson so he's not even getting the best help he can get. No offence to Helgeson... Yeah, I understand. I'm just tired of seeing the exact same debate take place over... and over... and over again. The name alone has some sort of magical properties that causes it to happen.
  12. Through first 16 games... 2013/14 8g 5a 13pts 16PIM 2014/15 5g 12a 17pts 24PIM (11pts in the past 9 games played) Note the couple of times he's hit posts/been robbed by the opposition goaltender and I'd say he's doing well considering the circumstances of the start to his season.
  13. Hitmen 6 - 4 Broncos (final) On a personal note Virtanen had 1 assist, 9 shots on goal, -1, and 4 PIM.. Okay, I have to add that the WHL boxscore is so awful. Can take up to 10 minutes to update.
  14. I'm not saying anyone should stop. I'm saying it's annoying that it's here. I don't have a problem with people actually talking about the kid. My main gripe is that it's not really a discussion about Jake Virtanen... in his own topic. We have an "AHL, International, and Junior Hockey" section for people who want to revel in Nylander's glory. Honestly, I'd take part in it there (he's a real exciting player) but this isn't really the place to talk about him.
  15. Sbisa +4 on the night. Best.

  16. Okay, my bad. I used your quote because you mentioned "Nylander" but it wasn't a direct response to you in particular. Most of us here are just tired of seeing his name brought up over and over again despite the number of times that conversation seems to die out. Is it inevitable his name is mentioned? Sure, I guess... But it doesn't make it any less annoying.
  17. Sounds like a lock in the top-6.
  18. Please don't take this personally but... FFS...

  20. He made the plays to earn the assists but went straight to the bench on a line change after. So a couple centres picked up free +'s. That kind of stuff is why +/- is not considered a "real" stat by some.
  21. Horvat's faceoff wins vs. Kopitar - 3/5 (60%) Carter - 3/4 (75%) Kesler - 5/8 (63%) Toews - 5/5 (100%)
  22. Signs of a good night: CDC Crash

  23. I am not ashamed to admit that I didn't think Horvat had a game like this in the tank. Just wow. That line was bonkers tonight.
