  1. The three stars compromised of the first line for Calgary. Huge night for them as the Hitmen beat the Rebels 6-2. Great comeback effort coming off of being shut out last night. Virtanen has 11 points (3g, 8a) in ten November games despite being held pointless in four of the games. 3 single-point games. 1 two-point game. 2 three-point games. EDIT:
  2. 1g 2a +4 2SOG A very flattering statline so far, for sure.
  3. It's now 4-2 Hitmen and Jake has 1g, 1a so far.
  4. Virtanen was announced to have picked up an assist on the tying goal at the end of the first. The commentators say it hit VIrtanen's skate on the way in on a goal-mouth scramble and so it is likely to be changed. It has been changed accordingly. That would be his 5th goal and 14th point in 14 games to keep him at a PPG. EDIT: I'm listening to the radio broadcast and from what I've heard Virtanen had 4 shot attempts in the first period. Couple of slappers. He and Tambellini also teamed up for a scoring chance but it was broken up by Haydn Fleury. It seemed like Virtanen's line had themselves a solid period.
  5. All young players need work though. Bo is far from being a finished product developmentally and that's not a bad thing either. In fact, that's a good thing as it means he will get better and better. The argument should be more about where the best place is for him to work on his game and, in my opinion, I feel that the OHL provides him that. I just have that feeling.
  6. Red Deer beat Calgary 4-0. Virtanen had 4 PIMs in what looked to be a pretty chippy game. 3 - CAL J. Virtanen, 3:37 - Unsportsmanlike Cnd., 2 min 3 - CAL J. Virtanen, 10:28 - Unsportsmanlike Cnd., 2 min (PP) By the way, Virtanen now plays on the Hitmen's top line with Adam Tambellini and Kenton Helgeson. Tambellini (a Rangers prospect) is the younger brother of Jeff, and Helgeson (a Ducks prospect) is a former defenseman-turned-forward.
  7. Call me crazy but making a claim as bold as that based on one goal seems a little premature.
  8. a) Dream scenario Domi - Horvat - Marner Rupert - Dvorak - McCarron b-) Likely scenario Dvorak - Domi - Marner Rupert - Horvat - McCarron Horvat between Domi and Marner would be absolutely amazing... but I doubt Domi moves over considering how much success he's having at centre right now. EDIT: Wow, b and ) is that sunglasses emoticon? That's pretty lame.
  9. I know he's listed as a centre but I was under the impression that Marner plays as a RW on that team. On the roster page (not the bio) on the Knights website, Marner is a RW and Dvorak is a C (not a LW like he's listed on other places). I don't know who to believe.
  10. I'm in the "return him to London camp" but that is something I actually worry about. Playing so many damn minutes had contributed to his developed habit of playing at about 80% each shift to ensure he doesn't tire out at game's end. He would be their best centre if he is returned but I hope the Hunters cut back on his icetime a little. I'd like to think they've found someone who can share the faceoff load. It's ironic that I think he is not receiving enough icetime here when I also worry he will get far too much in London. Ultimately, I want him to return so he can be a major contributing player on an offensive powerhouse.
  11. Ales Hemsky has 4 points through 19 games. All assists. $4 mil/year.

    1. Tortorella's Rant

      Tortorella's Rant

And people here wanted to trade for him lol. He's exactly the kind of player you avoid like the plague

  12. They're not a contending team so I doubt they would trade their young talent and picks (which CGY would want) for one year of Virtanen. I wouldn't want him to play on a subpar team anyways. Sorry Giants fans.
  13. On the night... 1G 2A 3PTS +2 2SOG Brings his point totals to... 12GP 4g 9a 13pts +1 16PIM
  14. I hate to triple post but... Virtanen just scored.
  15. By the way, I just found out about the Greg Chase trade. For anyone else who isn't aware... FWIW, that's one less top-6 forward.
  16. 12GP 3g 9a 12pts on the year with the one period to go in this one. These two assists tonight are primary assists too, so it confirms the fact that Jake Virtanen now has elite level hockey IQ.
  17. I agree. Even with his best game so far, he got sub 10 minutes (9:50). For me, it's all about Horvat playing well to get more and more confidence. Then taking that confidence back with him to London where he and Domi can dominate the OHL together. The Knights are doing much better now -- ever since Domi got going -- and there's a lot of offense on that team. Have him play on a team with Domi, Marner, McCarron, Dvorak, Rupert, etc. while being a big piece on that team. Let him have a great final year in the OHL (personally, at the very least). I think that would do more than what we can offer him in the NHL at this point.
  18. The last time the Canucks drafted a player out of the Rockets organization was 1999 when they picked Kevin Swanson.
  19. Not to mention that whether a player makes a team is also dependent on circumstances out of the player's control (depth chart, injuries to begin the season, etc).
  20. He'd be lucky to get 9 minutes. Nov 19 '14 VAN @ EDM 7:37 Nov 11 '14 OTT @ VAN 5:56 Nov 9 '14 VAN @ ANA 7:53 Nov 8 '14 VAN @ LAK 14:54 Nov 6 '14 VAN @ SJS 7:18 Nov 4 '14 VAN @ COL 8:52
  21. Another night with less than 8 minutes. There's no way he stays past 9 games. The guy needs to play and London has that opportunity for him. He will be a player for us but this year isn't the year. He's 33W/28L (54.1%) on faceoffs for anyone wondering.
  22. Ah, the magic word. As far as Virtanen is concerned, the guy is just 11 games (half of what his peers have already played) back from his rehabilitation and never had a training camp or a summer to train. I would be shocked, if anything, if he was dominating already. This pace throughout the entire season isn't ideal but right now it's still pretty early.
