  1. Damn... Hot damn... It's also interesting to note that he was the first shooter for Kingston in the shootout.
  2. Might want to reword that. I thought you meant Jake said he didn't like the Canucks. /crisisaverted
  3. Yeah, Horvat was basically playing as the Gauthier of last year. Even though they had Gauthier. Which says a lot about the kind of roster they put together last year...
  4. I agree that Kesler is a smart player. He is a selfish one that would like to shoot 99 times out of 100 but he is not stupid. How anyone can call a two-way centre -- let alone one of the league's better ones -- an unintelligent player is beyond me. In any case, I have no idea why a physical scoring winger is being compared to a two-way centreman. EDIT: Never mind, nobody is necessarily calling him stupid. Still, he is a smart hockey player.
  5. Just saw his his PP goal from last night (in the highlights on the WHL site) and it was literally identical to the one he scored against Moose Jaw in early December. Virtanen on his off side on the PP, Sanheim, from the point, slides the puck over to him, Jake takes the slapper, puck's in the net
  6. It's not like the powerplay struggled either. Gotta let it go guys.
  7. Virtanen with 1 goal (PP), an unsuccessful shootout attempt, and -1 in his return to the Hitmen line-up. Hitmen lose 5-4 in a shootout. Broncos play-by-play said earlier in the game (moments before the goal) that he had lots of shots on net, though he missed on a lot of those too. He also said pre-shootout that Virtanen, Tambellini, and Rankin have been Calgary's most dangerous forwards of the night.
  8. Welcome back, Jake! He just scored a slapper on the PP. 3-1 Hitmen lead. EDIT: Listening to the Swift Current Bronco's radio broadcast. This might be the least biased hockey broadcast I've ever heard. One of their own players got hit in the head, no penalty is called, and they immediately say "Well, from the referees vantage point there was no way he could have known it was a high hit." UPDATE: The game is tied 4-4 and going into overtime.
  9. Jake is back playing but he is on the third line.
  10. I'm sorry to plug my own videos but I thought that, with the tournament now finished, now would be a good time to include all of the videos I was able to make in a single post. It's not every game, but it should give you a decent look at how he did in the tournament on the whole. Thanks for all of the kind words directed my way during the tournament. It was a lot of fun to make these videos for y'all and I'm glad it was of use. (I'm a little worried about copy-right related issues that'll force me to remove them but I'll deal with it when it becomes pertinent.) Cheers, guys!
  11. You can put a number to that, can you? That's awesome.
  12. Should be 5 points since he didn't get the blatant assist on the 3-1 Lazar goal against the US.

  14. There's a guy on TSN1050 that, literally, sounds exactly like P.K. Subban.

I'll have to tell PK there's a guy on the radio who sounds like him.

  15. Eh, I don't feel that way at all. I guess things might get brought down a little by the fact that a Canucks prospect isn't doing relatively well, but I've still enjoyed the team's success a lot. I pay extra attention to Virtanen because I put together videos for people who want to have a closer look at his game later or never caught the game live, but that doesn't take away from my Canadian pride when watching the games.
  16. Here is Virtanen's game against Slovakia. I am missing the beginning of a shift where he spun around and sent a puck on net from around the o-zone blueline. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0S0tphd3Qg

Make the 3rd a conditional. Condition is that it becomes a 6th if they come together to form a unibrow.

    4. Odd.

      Odd.

Crosby, Craig Adams, 3rd for starters

  18. The post you replied to is talking about playing Point with McDavid + Lazar ahead of Virtanen, which happened after Fabbri got hurt last game. Point didn't get a shift in the previous game against the US. So it was after the Denmark game that McKenzie explained the thought process behind Point on line 2 and Virtanen on line 3. EDIT: I watched the video again (McKenzie post-game against Denmark) and he didn't mention Virtanen on the line because of size and physicality or Point making the line too small. Huh.. I swore I heard that after (or maybe during) last game.
  19. I've watched him play a few WHL games before the tournament started and he was much better in those games than he ever was here in this tournament. The competition here is superior to the WHL (of course) so that will affect his production, but it shouldn't make him not skate as well or play physically this infrequently. I think Bob McKenzie said in a post-game that they wanted Virtanen's size and physicality on Petan's wing. Point on his right-side may have been too small a line for Groulx. Fabbri is small too but he plays are a far more hard-nosed style that belies his frame.
  20. What are the chances he's hurt? It's one thing to not be scoring nor be a presence in the offensive zone, but he's not hitting at all or skating particularly well.
  21. C'mon, guys, just ignore DownUndaCanuck. At this point he's just trying to get a reaction out of people, so don't give him the satisfaction of that working. It's no coincidence that he decides to show up again when people are arguing about Virtanen in some way. Never saw him around when Virtanen was doing well. Leave him.
  22. ? Ritchie is now the fourth line winger and, in that time, Virtanen has spent time in the middle-6. One entire game on McDavid's wing. If there's one thing I wanted Groulx to do, it's use him on the second unit powerplay. I don't really see him ahead of Domi, Reinhart, Duclair, Petan, McDavid, Lazar, and even Point, so I don't see that happening, sadly...
  23. I see. Sadly, I don't have a very good grasp of the NCAA or college sports in general. I knew that many students don't finish all 4 years but I thought maybe it was a little different for goalies.
  24. I'm as big a Virtanen-fan as the next guy, but to not be able to criticize a player without being told to "cheer for a different" team is as ridiculous as anything else.
