  1. Well, assuming he finishes his 4 years, we won't be able to dress him in a lineup until 2017.
  2. Most people are saying he hasn't played well, which is fair. If we can't bring up the fact that he has a poor game, no matter the stage, well, then this isn't a very good place to have a "discussion". It is, however, taking it too far when people try to predict his future 8 years from now using a short tournament, where chemistry needs to be built on the fly and lines are often shuffled, as a basis.
  3. I wouldn't say his confidence is "shot", but he definitely isn't playing with much swagger. It looked like a rough game for him. His shots were: 1) Right into the goaltender's logo. 2) Fanned on. 3) Not taken because of a stick lift. 4) Not taken because it bounced off his stick. He wasn't hitting, he wasn't skating as well as he has shown before, and he wasn't a much of a presence in the offensive zone.
  4. He looked much better with Petan and Paul. No question they start the next game together. Overall, not a particularly memorable game from him, though he doesn't have to be the "it" guy on this stacked team. He's helped more than hurt his team which is the least you could ask for. No shift-compilation from me for this game. My stream was absolute trash today and it would be unwatchable on YouTube. Sorry.
  5. Virtanen didn't have a good period. That's fact. He got put on a line with players he hasn't played with at all so far. That's also fact. It's one thing to predict his future off of this one period, but there's nothing wrong with saying he didn't play particularly well in it. He didn't have a great period so let's hope he does better in the second. And then better in the third.
  6. Point wouldn't be playing on that line if Fabbri wasn't hurt.
  7. Fabbri injury has Point with McDavid's line and Virtanen with Paul and Petan. I actually quite like the idea of having Petan with Virtanen.
  8. Virtanen will be on the second line to start. Groulx mentioned in an interview yesterday or today that he really likes the chances that the second line is generating. It was in response to Mark Masters asking if Groulx felt that line was due for a big game as they have been playing well. Sounds like he is happy with that trio right now. Virtanen's last shift of the last game came with 3.5 minutes left. He was out with Lazar and McDavid. I don't see anything that may have happened in the final 3 minutes (1 or 2 shifts) having an impact on line combinations to start the next game.
  9. Here's Virtanen vs USA. Quality is bad and stuff, you guys know the deal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-F_SPYZhz0 EDIT: Sorry it's so dark. I didn't notice that during editing. EDIT2: Sorry, forgot to make it Public.
  10. No assist. And it's an injustice.
  11. Just finished watching the game on GCL. Was interesting to see him not get a single shift in the final 12.5 minutes of a 3-1 game. Vey and Matthias got benched as well.
  12. I don't see being an "exceptional" playmaker as an absolute prerequisite to becoming a good top-6 NHL forward. I mean, it would really help his cause if he could add that to his skill set but it isn't absolutely necessary. Virtanen is big (for a winger), blazing-fast, physical, a goal scorer, and isn't inept in the playmaking-department. Most importantly he has a good work ethic, and the fact that his playmaking is better this year is a testament to his willingness to improve his flaws. I don't think he will be Cam Neely v2.0 either, but I do think he has the tools to be an effective top-6 forward. And, I guess, that's ultimately where we will have to agree to disagree.
  13. I don't know how bad his playmaking abilities were last year, but from what I've been able to watch this year (in the WHL), it is nowhere near as bad as people had made it out to be. As of right now, he's far from being a playmaker, but he isn't inept at making passes like so many people were saying on draft day.
  14. That's fine, everyone is entitled to their own expectations. But if I may ask, what exactly are you basing this on?
  15. Virtanen wasn't as dangerous or as noticeable as he had been in previous games, but I thought he played well. He was still hitting (albeit much less once he joined the skill line), skating well, had a couple shots+attempts, and didn't look out of place on that second line. He didn't leave as big an impact, and it certainly wasn't his best game to date, but I'm not sure I'd say he "didn't play well". There's room for improvement and he has more to give, that's for sure. I do agree that Virtanen being promoted had more to do with Ritchie playing quite poorly. Virtanen, up to the promotion, hadn't really done anything in particular that was so fantastic that it required bumping him up in the lineup.
  16. Here it is. Sorry about the bad quality (audio and video). Gotta work with what the stream gives me. I panned the footage to appear smaller, which I was hoping would help make it look a little clearer. I haven't had a chance to look it over for any editing errors so I apologize in advance if anything has gone wrong. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnlFBkb4_2c
  17. Probably this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LprzxFAoH9w
  18. Fighting in IIHF tournaments result in suspensions. Virtanen kept the gloves on which is good.
  19. Here's the Virtanen scrum. Recorded this off of the TSN website so I don't have a shift compilation in this quality. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nyY8HkU6-LU
  20. I've always thought that "rule" was stupid. I can't be the only one who finds it so boring to see the same low numbers out there season after season after season. I guess it's nice for people who just need to change the name on a jersey, but still...
