  1. well dont get too cocky thinking our roster is much more superior to either Coilers or Flames. I love the young guns on calgary...Monahan, Gaudreu, Arnold, Klimchuk, poirier, etc...plus Mr. Chin-ups (Bennett). I wanted Hiller over Miller just due to compete level and talent alone. Not to mention Hiller is cheaper and signed one year less. I like Bolig and would welcome him on our 3rd line anyday of the week. Has size and talent and youth as compared to Higgins. Giordano, imo, matches up well to any of our current D, Wideman is no slouch, Engllynd wasnt sought for his puck moving prowess but adds great toughness and an awesome guy to have in your dressing room. Speaking of toughness, Hartley is still licking his lips to throw McGrattan out again to make Sestito his bitch. Smid is a wild card for them but at this point, so is Sbisa Calgary also has a vault of cap space left to add serious pieces THIS year AND next. They dont have aging vets with NTC's signed for another 4 years. Edmonton too has a decent roster and Im not going to get into it but only saying that if they could ever attract a marquee piece, they could be set for a while. Their only problem is location location location. They have a crap load of drafted talent that SHOULD be turning the corner any year now. Wayyy too early for us to think we sit high on the hog just yet. Coilers and Flamers could very well finish ahead of us.
  2. well if one has a bar on it then its a no-brainer lol
  3. you are corrwct sir but when it becomes a cap issue the guy that doesn't need to be waived will always lose out. Benning has gone on record to state the contrary but we shall see. As far as Horvat bulking up, he is naturally a bulky/stocky guy to begin with. He stated his foot speed due to his weight is his area to work on. Hopefully his power skating in the summer will work that off.
  4. Bingo!!! If Bo makes the 4th line and soaks up his 6/7 minutes and holds things steady...wins faceoffs, keeps pucks in deep, doesnt take dumb penalties, plays responsible, isnt a liability....no reason to think he cant get more minutes as injuries creep in come November. I been reading alot of Plum's developement itinerary for Bo and yes it makes sense but ....what if? What if he pulls an O'Reilly and makes the team and becomes an instant factor? There goes your whole theory. Looking at reality knowing we are deep at center... Hank Vey Bonino Richardson Matthias Unless one of Richardson or Matthias gets packaged and moved, I dont see Horvat making this team this year. I truely hope Horvat makes it. He will be sent to junior to play out his WJC and Gaunce will get the call-ups as injuries set in.
  5. "Dont vorry Comrade Benningk...vee have vayyyyys of makingk him mean....DA?"
  6. Wondering which Canucks scout went to freeze his balls off to watch this guy play?
  7. no NTC and only a 2 yr deal to see if he can play up to par and not mess the bed as he has been doing the past few years since Lucic steamrolled him Never been a Miller fan per say. He reminds me of a guy that is great during regular season then craps the bed in playoffs or when the big game is on the line
  8. I do this deal everyday.... Hunter, sorry we wont get to see your smiling whites... Tanev or Garrison....so long...we will replace Hunter and Tanev/Garrison in other deals dont panic CDC.... Let Benning work his magic and swing for the fences. Sucks to lose Tanev but if its Garrison then Im all for it. I was never really impressed with him in the first place. Turnstile, misses the net, has basically only one move that everyone knows how to defend. in turn we get an up n coming elite center that can eventually replace Henrik. Reinhart/Horvat/Gaunce is a nice future set of centers CDC is always afraid to make "the bold move" yet when the teigger gets pulled they are all behind it.
  9. Lidster!!! I can still hear good old Howie Meeker on BCTV televised Games and his teleprompter pen and breaking down Lidsters missed assignments after being scored on lol
  10. well if St. Louis hopes to come out of the west....they have LA and Chicago in the way. Anaheim and SJ elbowing them in the face for their share of the pie. Anaheim is looking to accomplish the same. Both are in OUR conferance. Let the bidding war begin If Im Benning....I get St. LOUIS to offer Rattie/Tarasenko/1st Rattie is essentially Raymond's replacement that we never did replace. Imo Anaheim Can buck up with 10th, 24th, Theodore, + roster player Kesler will help both of those teams big time. Oshie/Backes/Kesler...Nice line
  11. in our situation, no price is put on the importance of being able to select a kid with this much promise. I would gladly drive Kesler to the airport in favor of SR. Horvat and Reinhart played on the same line at WJC. Who are our dance partners? Fla? Buf? Edm? If Sam is available at #4, you can bet your bottom dollar that Calgary selects him to play with brother Max. In fact....I look for Calgary to also be in a position to move up. Wet dream scenario would be to move up and select Reinhart. Still being able to keep our 6th to select Fluery, Trading Kesler to Anaheim for their 10th and selecting Virtanen. Hey.....thats MY dream ok?
  12. I thought Ward was awesome in 2011 against us. Seemed like he was in on many chances against us. Seemed to regress after taking the money and running to Wash but he is now having a great WHC and getting to know Bieksa would prove beneficial. What could we get him for? Cap dump? Trade our dead weight for him? Bottom line is that he would be great for us
  13. and when Trotz benches Ovie or cuts his icetime... I truely feel for any coach worth his salt going to Wash.
  14. My thinking is that Canucks will have a coach by Thurs and announce the new GM and coach together on Fri Seriously hope its Trotz. After dealing with ego Russians, I cant see him wanting to deal with the king pin of Russian egos.
  15. Something we all seem to overlook is that..being a scout is one job....when you become "The Man" as GM...are you still able to scout like you used to?
  16. Great story in The Province this morning about possibly ALSO bringing in Tim Burke who, much like Fenton, unearthed many late round gems, to become AGM along with Benning. Interesting enough that Burke was a coach for the Utica team wayyyyy wayyyy back in the day.
  17. guys like Glover and Dougherty leave you wanting more but they are also getting the job done. Not asking for a flashy dman out of the 2nd but either of these 2 wont leave you disappointed either. Both have been steady and been a part of the wrecking ball squad (USNTDP) that has been playing together all year and playing college teams and currently kickin ass at U18 Not to mention both are RH....not sure if we have many of those in our system
  18. if Demko drops to us....get him. Doubt he makes it out of the first round. Next Cory Schneider right there folks
  19. I believe I much rather have Sutter over Matthias. Reduntant 3rd line center he is not. He has been and will improve upon being a shutdown center we havent had since Malhotra More upside, hockey IQ, better on faceoffs. To Matthias' defense, Im willing to give Matthias one full year on our squad before I give a full judgement. As for the pick of Dumoulin or Despres. ...I think Dumoulin is going to be a rock solid defender in the next year or 2. Nit flashy but gets the job done and has plenty of size and that pick could be Lemieux, Demko, Cornel, Glover or Dougherty
  20. Keeping an eye on Sutter since the trade deadline... im wishing we DID pull off that trade..especially if Pouliot WAS on the table. Sutter is still young, wins important faceoffs and plays his butt off. Pouliot would be the perfect pmd to grow with our young forwards, not to mention we have his defense partner 3 line center with heart young pmd stud 1st 2nd good package return
  21. I keep sayin this but if Jake is available....expect Trevor and his entourage to have a jersey for him. even funnier when dolts on here lump him into a 6'5 240lb goon everytime his name is discussed. dont know what more the guy has to do to prove himself. Smashian points out that Kesler scores off the rush so why get Virtanen well heaven forbid we have 2 players who can have opposing defenses on their heels at all times. If/when we trade Kesler, then we will be back to 1 again. Do you remember how the crowd goes nuts when we get a goal off the rush? Especially if there was a goal just scored on the previous shift?
  22. I love how ppl trot out the biggest superstar name to prove their point. Why dont you use Pavel Brendl or Patrick Stefan or chistov or Zhamnov or Weinhandl or Tukonen or Olesz or Nilsson most recently Filatov, Paajarvi, Larsson, Josefsen?
  23. Edmonton has Eberle and Yakupov on the right....Hall, Perron on the left. They need a big center behind RNH. Draisaitl fits that bill provided Buffalo doesnt pick him up Most important, they need a young blue chip defenseman. ...
