2017 NHL Draft - Chicago, Illinois June 23-24 2017

This was a reason why I was hoping we could've squeezed Lazar from Ottawa. Considering the price, surely we could've matched that. Is a package of Sbisa and Subban That far from Calgary package if Jokipaka and 2nd? I know Calgary got a 2nd rnd pick but there should be a case of Sbisa being better than Jokipaka? I'm sure fans here would've agreed with even Sbisa and our 3rd would be fair IMO, Lazar should turn into something. I know we've paid dearly for trading picks for hunches and it has bitten us before (2nd for Vey) but this is something equally tempting. -

If we are out of top 5 the Cal Foote is the guy we need to take Big RD is raking up his offensive numbers while his +/- is very respectable which shows he doesn't get scored on 5on5. Keep him in junior for 2 more years and develop the heck out of him. 6'4" 210lb and still 18 folks If we are going to have small skilled players, we need size on the back end and besides Stecher, I think we are getting that -
That list screams for Tryamkin. If he can spend the summer hammering one-timers from the point with a skills coach, that would go a long way As for Gaudette, he was drafted in 2015 and therefore at the young age to go to Utica. Get this kid signed before he gets ideas to become a free-agent and really mess our prospect pool.
-
Lockwood could opt out and join which ever junior team owns his rights. Not sure which that would be but still..... he wouldn't be the first to do that. That being said, there is also nothing wrong with staying at Red Berenson University for another year of development. This kid isn't joining the Canucks anytime soon so no need to rush him. There are quite a few decent players for the taking out of college this year. Chances are it will be someone we will have never heard of but has ties and connections to someone on the staff.

Oh I'm hoping SJ wins the cup and lands us #31 to go with possible #33 or #34 With #31 I'm selecting Marcus Davidsson 6' 190lb C from SEL. 33/34 I'm selecting Conor Timmins 6'1 190lb RD Killin it in for the Greyhounds in his second year Leaving the draft with Vilardi/Mittlestadt Davidsson Timmins 2 skilled offensive centers and an offensive D that's solid in his own end. This would be a good draft day for us imo -

With our new influx of skilled wingerswe need Centers and keep loading up on D. Would be wise to grab a netminder this year too -

If we are picking 29th..... would it be a stretch to trade down in hopes of obtaining a young asset and possibly a 2nd rnd pick while still staying within say top 6 or 7? -
Imagine if Benning can drag Aston-Reese into the fold?

I agree.... People need to realize that just because a guy is drafted 5th overall or even 1st overall that they will instantly flourish within a year of being drafted. Andrew Ladd 4th overall...how long did it take him to flourish? Yet the guy turned into a 30 goal scorer while winning 2 cups. Took him quite a few years for that to happen. Baertschi was drafted 6 years ago and finally making strides. How long did it take Ryan Johansen to break out? Marcus Johansen, Blake Wheeler, etc.... Ppl need to be patient As much as we get filited for Virtanen, how's that Sam Bennett guy working out for CGY? Dal Colle in NY? Patience ppl -

Well thanks for that there Capt. Obvious Here's a stock tip... Buy low....sell high -
I wouldn't get ahead if ourselves.... Atleast give the guy a taste of the Pro leagues in Utica for the remainder of the year. Start him again in Utica next year and go from there. I'm sure the selfish fans want him in the Canucks line-up asap but really....is there a rush on his development? Even signing a guy like Aston-Reese, and even Boeser, I would have no issue starting them all in Utica. Play the snot out if them and then bring them up as needed. I also like the napkin line of Aston-Reese/Gaudette/Boeser

2 games to go for their season? doubt they are in a playoff?

Who's picks next year are you talking about? Are you suggesting there is a possibility that LV will be selecting between 10-20 next year? Or are you talking about our pick next year because I believe that will be high as well -

Well using LV as the team we are trading with here..... If we win the lottery and trade down to LV for their 1st plus their 1st next year AND a 2nd? I think McPhee slaps Benning for making such a stupid proposal. Why wouldn't McPhee just select Vilardi or Liljegren and then select whoever for their top 4 pick next year? You are suggesting that Nolan Patrick or Hischier are better than having 2 top 4 players in the next 2 drafts. You are putting too much value in Patrick when hockey pundits much smarter and privy that this site are saying this is a weak draft and Patrick and Hischier aren't as good as people would want. Ya they have skill etc.... but not worth writing home about. Patrick for example is roughly the same age as last year's draft class and if drafted last year would've gone between 6-10. Just for that he should be head and shoulders above this year's class.....but is he? What does he do that's better than Vilardi, or Mittlestadt for matter? As for Colorado, if I'm Sakic and I'm selecting 2/3 or 4, I'm selectin my pick along with #32, keeping Jost and calling it a day. My best offer would be 1st and a 2nd but walking away if Jost is involved as I think Jost has more talent than Patrick and developing quite well where he is at. Looking back at the rumoured offers Benning gave to Tim Murray to move up to select Reinhart, do you think Murray was wise to simply keep his pick? Virtanen, Shinkaruk and Vancouver's top prospect, which was who? You are giving examples of RUMOURED packages but they are simply just that.....rumours. The last guy to pull off the move up was Burke to get the Sedins. I'm having a difficult time remembering anyone else in the past 20 years that's ever done that. I like your idea so please don't think I'm crappin on it, but it's just not gonna happen -

well what I do know of the projected 1st overall this year is that many project him to be a good 2nd liner. That right there isn't worth trading up a pick that will probably turn into the same guy you are trading up for along with sending a potential top 4 pick next year. when I seen a poster describe it as Vilardi or Mittlestadt + Dahlin or svechnikov(or whoever is in those spots) for Patrick the first thing I thought of was the episode of Simpsons where Homers half brother got Homer to run his successful auto company for one day that trade scenario just isn't happening. McPhee will be reminded on every sports station of his last hockey deal when he sent Forsberg to Nashville for Erat. When he goes driving around Vegas, he will be constantly looking into his rear view mirror for mid 70's Lincoln Continentals I'm not clear as to your original question tho. -

I'm sorry but if you think McPhee trades his 1st pick this year and a potential #1 next year for an unknown commodity such as Patrick or Hichier then I gotta ask for you to pass me the dutchie ur smoking. His ex Army boss probably taps into his Black-op's rolodex for someone to whack him As great of an idea as that sounds, it just aint gonna happen. Ya, maybe Col trades you their 1st and one of the 1sts they MIGHT get for Landy or Duchene but that's as far as you get. There wont be a Jost attached because IMO Jost is better than Patrick and only a few months younger. As for Hischier, the last big time swiss guy that tore up the CHL and had a crap load of promise is playing for us right now and if I'm not mistaken, put up better numbers than Hischier. take note that guys like Bobby Mac, Buttons, and other draftists all say that depending on who you talk to have their rankings very much different from each other. if Arizona is picking 1st....Don't be surprised if Tippett puts Chayka in a headlock to draft his boy. If we are picking 5th, there are 5 prospects we can make a strong argument for selecting and each will be right Vilardi, Mittlestadt, Foote, Valimaki, Tippett -
Larkin is as speedy as Raymond but has more balls. the issue with Larkins lack of success this year is either a sophomore slump or other teams coaches deploying better defensive systems against him.
-
I would be just as happy if Gaudette played like a current Dylan Larkin
-
Imagine Benning being able to sign Aston-Reese as well as talking Gaudette and Boeser into signing and being sent to Utica for the rest of the year I'm sure Green would be thankful for finally getting some talent to work with.
-
You bet... If you can get a couple of cats that make an impact then you do it. I don't care where they come from. Didn't have to trade for them
-
That was an awesome shot!!! He got all of that one
-
That was an awesome goal too.... One-timer from the point Ka-POWWW!!! HE got all of it Seriously hope he signs and we also sign Anton-Reese as well
-
We always hear about constant communication from Canucks brass to Boeser..... I wonder/hope the same is being done for Gaudette or any sort of local radio interview with his thoughts on Canucks
-
Now that screams of a Gaudette/Boeser pairing with an experienced PF to clear room on the LW Speaking of Aston-Reese, he is a Sr. And free agent at the end of this year. Am super curious who other prominent free agents coming out of NCAA can come in and help us
