  1. Button had ranked JV at #41..... was he wrong?
  2. Oh I'm sure Tomlinson is greasin up all the right knobs The days of having outspoken guys like Larcheid are long gone.
  3. Back in the day teams like New Jersey, Detroit, and now Tampa....rhey all send their rookies to AHL for a season or 2. Get them transitioned from CHL to the pro's. Things kids got away with in Juniors don't fly in the pro's and usually drives coaches nuts. NCAA, to pro's to get used to the longer schedule, fatigue factors, etc.... build speed, learn pro defensive schemes expected from parent clubs......basically develop.
  4. Thats some high acolades about Gaudette. Red Berensen has recently said the same things about Lockwood. High energy, smart and involved in every play, always in pursuit of the puck, and not just a passenger on the top line in just his freshman year. Could those 2 be our succession plan to guys like Burrows and Hansen? I still like to see those guys do atleast a year or some significant time in the AHL. Thanks for the great insight @suitup
  5. Alot of question marks.... We don't seem to have a succession plan for guys like Hansen and Burrows but aquiring Boucher and the possibility of re-signing Rodin if he worKS out and also Virtanen joining the club as ways to buy time to let guys like Boeser to be afforded the opportunity to be properly developed instead of rushing him and potentially hurting him that way. Think of Detroit or Tampa Bay where most prospects are stuffed down in the minors to develop regardless of their draft position and I'm ok with that too. If Juolevi can develop another year then I'm all for that as well. Stecher was 22 when joining us....Guys like OJ and BB aren't even 20 yet. IS there a rush? Maybe as far as fans are concerned yes but for the long term betterment of the club and the player, I'm convinced Utica is the best place Who knows....maybe JB scouts a few gems out of NCAA this year to plug n play and buy more time for our prospects
  6. You could be right. All players are wired differently and seem to either need AHL or go straight to the show. Boeser himself conceded that he needed to get stronger and develop more and chose another year of College and also to further his edjumacations. Curious to "see" how much stronger he did get. It surely wouldn't hurt Brock to spend an entire year in Utica. I don't see how it would hurt him unless he had an ego to bruise which I don't see. Who knows, maybe North Dakota gets bounced earlier and he signs and plays in Utica and that's all he needs.
  7. I can see Abols starting in Alaska
  8. Tongue in cheek for sure but I truly believe a nice 10 game start in Utica or a full season to get used to the bigs and develop would be best for Boeser. Surely I'm not the only one here that thinks that Something tells me you look forward to that sig
  9. Benning also wants Jasek brought over to Utica for next year. IMO, all these guys can spend a year in AHL Gaudette Jasek Demko Boeser Neill Olsen Hopefully JB can dig up another NCAA or 2 like Stecher
  10. Yikes..... I seen what you did there with "tossing" Virtanen and Gaunce as sweetness, but that's a huge over payment for an equally risky top pick and a constantly injured player. I'm not giving up on Virtanen or Gaunce yet. Ya Jake was 6th overall and Gaunce was a former 1st round but so we're guys like Ladd and Foligno and Hartnell and a laundry list of other that took time to "Arrive". What DO you know about Liljegren and another overlooked kid like Vilardi? Vilardi just came back and popped 4 points. He is just as big and talented as Patrick but doesnt seem to get the time of day around here. He too could turn into a Sean Monahan or atleast a successor to Henrik, but if Im Benning, I still keep Vilardi in Juniors till he is old enough to go to Utica. Why not be patient and sit back and watch this play out as there is still a ton of time before the draft. Watching Sweden, I see a guy like Lias Andersson pole vaulting up the rankings and so he should be. Guy is built like a tank and skates thru opponents. Has a ton of speed and makes defenders back up in a hurry. Imagine what he can do against the bigger, slower slugs in the NHL? This guy is already an upgrade over Baertschi and Granlund combined. My biggest wish is still Liljegren as when he was playing he is another guy that makes stuff happen from the backend, is also built like a tank and has a wicked wrister. There is our Erik Karlsson. If we are picking lower, I'm still inclined to select either Hague or Foote. One of the above mentioned to go along with Tanev, Hutton, Stecher, Tryamkin and Juolevi gives us a nice D core in another 3 years when they finally matured and played together If we squeeky another 1st then snag Andersson
  11. Hodgson has since retired..... I can't wait to see a 30 for 30 on what really happened. His back was shot after that training accident and never the same again. It ruined him
  12. Hodgson has since retired..... I can't wait to see a 30 for 30 on what really happened. His back was shot after that training accident and never the same again. It ruined him
  13. Sure but we were talking about drafts from 8 years ago. They still had Lecavalier (although had a damaged knee) and surely they might've figured out the forwards as they then would've had 2 franchise D and THOSE guys make a difference. Remember Anaheim with Pronger and Neidermeyer? THAT was the reason they won the cup that year. Creating offense from the blueline while shutting down top forwards is a HUGE ask
  14. Doughty get picked the year before He'd man, but can you imagine He'd man and Doughty on same team for the next 10 years?
  15. Ya hindsight sucks but had JB not ejaculated at trading for Gudbranson, he could've drafted Juolevi and selected big LW Taylor Raddysh and still kept McCann (a center). Speaking of Hindsight.... 2013 does Colorado still select McKinnon over Jones? I'm bettin they wish they got a do-over on that one. Same with Tampa Bay....bet they wished they picked Doughty. Moral of the story..... pick the defenceman and not the hotshot forward if the 2 are rated the same in the draft. In this case of selecting Juolevi over Tkachuk, I suggest the naysayers on here to eat their words once OJ comes along. Ya he might take 2 seasons to arrive but he will be worth it.
  16. Me neither....especially Vesalainan. Tolvanen is a guy I worry will turn into Pulkkanen or Teravainen. If we get saddled down to 5th again, I say we take the best D available. Hague is a 6'6 LH D that plays on the right and loves to hammer pucks. Foote is another I would love to see as well
  17. I don't know if I trade for Landeskog. I mean, the guy has a world of talent and I would rather have him on the 2nd line over Granlund or Baertschi but the guy can't stay bloody healthy and we have too many of them killing our team already. I shutter to think how steady Tanev is in 2-3 more years and we would become another laughing stock if we gave him away for a player that didnt pan out. Trade guy like Elder or Sbisa or Gudbranson before we trade away Tanev
  18. Not just that.... Columbus isn't just doing it with strong young D. They have wingers full of pi $$ n vinegar that muck in the corners, all love to take the puck to the net and can rip the puck, aren't hanging out in the perimeter and will punch you in the face when you cheap shot them. On top of that....they have a coach that has the balls to call out ANY player that slacks off and doesn't pull up his socks as exemplified by Torts calling out Saad. WD can only bench Baertschi coz he doesn't have the stones to bench Sutter or 6 million dollar Eriksson.
  19. Here is something to ponder.... Columbus is doing so well... Who is their top Center and has he lit up the scoreboards? Minnesota..... Philly...besides Giroux.... Washington....besides BackStrom These teams are so he'll bent on having the "franchise center". What they do have are awesome Defense cores that are generally young and going to be together for a long time. Back when Chicago was suckin, they had Seabrook, Keith, Hjalmarsson as rookies and they played the heck out of them. Get scored on? Back out they go. Make a mistake? Back out you go. Columbus is freakin awesome and I'm so in awe of what they have done. Minnesota has an awesome young D with Suter as the mentor Nashville was like that too until they lost a few pieces. IM on the fence about losing Tanev and rather get rid of Elder. But a young core we could end up with around Tanev, Stecher, Hutton Juolevi Liljegren, Foote, or Hague Dahlin Gives us an amazing D for years and years to come. All have size, skating, puck moving ability.
  20. Or a few top D from a few drafts. Juolevi plus one of Liljegren, Foote or Hague should help for the next 10 years
  21. How did Valimaki look out there? Top 15 pick and blasting pucks from backend in Tri-city.
  22. No but there seems to be merit for the guy that ranked JV at #41
  23. I'm just preferring to bite my lip until Juolevi arrives on a regular basis. Ya I'm a fan of Tkachuk and would've prefered we took him over Juolevi but it's not like OJ is a slouch. I remember a few years ago when 70% on this site were beside themselves when Nichushkin scored 9 goals as Bo was still in London. Now who looks so smart? As for this year's pick, I'm really pinning for the top D Liljegren, Foote, Hague....even Valimaki. Hague is huge and has a bullet of a shot. Watching how some of the up and coming teams are such as Columbus, Winnipeg, and Philly, etc.... they have a really good young nucleus of top end D.
  24. You should get a kick in the nuts for even suggesting that package. Tanev plus our 1st for this kid? You even said yourself that you don't know much about him but you want to go by what his coach says. Well of course he is going to say these things. "Ya his back check is to be desired and he hangs out in the perimeter more than I like but ya draft him early ok?" I'm still simply happy to get the top D available with our pick. If we happen to get a 1st for Tanev then ya, draft the next available C at that position. Tanev doesn't hold a NTC so we can trade him to whover offers their best package. Even if it's multiple picks and a really good prospect
  25. Another guy I don't know much about but don't see enough of is Nickolas Hague 6'6 defenseman that loves to hammer the puck and has already matched his goal output from last year at 14 in 30+ games. I don't know what his other abilities are such as D game or if he is a big puss or slow footed and gets walked around but his shot is amazing and worth considering
