  1. Nice to see a proposal not including Miller. Not saying they are as good, but they do cover some of out concerns... Nice one Jan
  2. Yes correct, I don't mean this season, and my personal feeling is not even next year neither. If we trade Miller, we accept a step back, and the players we get in return will need time to mature, so I personally think 2+ years before we can compete. This was my main problem with it all, and why I was so torn on the idea of trading Miller at all. I agree 100% with Bieksa that trading Miller will be like tearing the heart of the team out, as I don't know, who else can lead like him. I love Bo, but he is a different type of player to Miller. Had Motte been more of a goal threat and maybe a bit bigger, he could maybe do the same (the spirit, tenacity and agression is there). Thus I believe EP, Brock, Podz etc needs a few years more before they can lead the team, and that would also give any newly aquired young roster players time to develop and the draft picks a chance to be ready to enter on ELC's (maybe). Now the issue with this, as I see it, is will Petey and Bo want to hang around for this? My original point though was, if they decide new players are needed, and we need to get stronger, bigger and faster, as JR said, I think trading Miller now would likely bring back more value, as he won't just be a rental like next year. Especially if we are in Cap problems. And the added bonus would be the players we traded for would have another year to develop before we really need to start push, if we want to make use of EP, contract before it takes off... At least there is a lot of interest, and that, together with the fact we have the ability to retain on Millers contract, should mean, we could get a really good haul for the future. If he can get something like Laf and a top RHD prospect, question is if this would be better for our team? But yes if JR can somehow, get a good rhd in by using our spares and keep Miller I would not be opposed to it. I will be interesting to see how it unfolds.
  3. Bigger return trading him now, as opposed to a rental next year. Also, next year clubs will know, we need to make deals to keep everyone, so any trades will likely be hampered... Not saying trade miller, but if the conclusion is, we need change tp properly compete, this trade d/l makes sense...
  4. Maybe but great thing is we can afford to retain, making Miller even more enticing to big clubs... JR will definitely milk the situation. Miller is the crown jewel at this trade dead line, and exactly because they don't need to let him go, they can milk the situation... If there is a person, I would expect to know, how to do deals, it would be JR...
  5. Fair comment. I do think it runs deeper than Benning though. Think a lot has been hanging around Canucks since the Bertuzzi incident... or did...
  6. Demko deserved better.... the rest got what they deserved. Really poor effort... is that it?
  7. Sounds right... Called it a few weeks back. Thought Garland could be in play. They want to get bigger and faster, but in order to do so they need to use a player of some sort of value. Also, despite what Friedman says, everyone is tradable if the price is right....
  8. true, but what good did it do in the Luongo fiasco... But you're right. Never understood why Canucks didn't fight it harder... again makes me think a lot of it is rigged...
  9. Yes it beyond belief the double standards of the NHL... It really off putting... It coming to a state, where you wonder if its worth watching, as it sinks of rigging...
  10. Scrups... Yes Kerfoot is decent, Prospect that has been hampered by injuries... screams Juolevi to me, and 15th pick last season. Does it really address any of our needs or are we just TO left overs back? No 1st round pick? And then its a typical TO proposal, we could for strength take Scheen back as well... Bah humbug... This does not improve us in any way, no now and not in the future...
  11. Mainly the usual suspects... Millers production has changed for the better, but Benning deserves massive credit to see the potential and make the trade I the first place...
  12. Yep me too... Don't worry about tomorrow but enjoy today... He will be paid and deserves to as well. Lets see enjoy Miller as long as he is here.... be is short or long. Either way it's a win/win
  13. This... Motte being injured to start the season had a lot to do with this...
  14. You bet... If the Covid Crap hadn't hit us I'd wager we'd have at least 2 more wins instead of losses, and we would be right in the middle of the chase... and that's achieve only since Bruce arrived... The group just needed a new voice by the look of it, or a more experienced one that has been around the block a few times, and probably have seen similar issues elsewhere during his coaching career... When it come to sport I live from day to day... Believe in development and team building, but at the same time fully believe if a train start to roll, you let it roll... you just never know where it ends... heart and belief is 10-15% on its own, and can and often is the difference between the haves and haves not... I understand both side of the arguments, and they both have merit, but you just never know.... I don't envy JR and Alwyn having to make the call... Good thing is they know more about this in a pinky nail, than most of us will in a life time... Tell you what though... This is a much more fun debate than the ones about, who sucks the most
  15. Absolute steal by Benning.... Benning made a lot of trades that, at best, didn't work out, but he struck Gold with Miller... He has all the attributes a young core will be needing... Voice, Passion, Heart, Strength, Energy, Ability ....and did I say heart.... Plays on any line and makes it better. If Bo hadn't been our Captain for so long already, Miller would easily have been the captain by now. He may stay or he may go... whether it be the one or the other ,his place is firmly cemented in Canucks history... Like what you are saying about our D... everyone is harping on about our D, but it is almost unrecognisable since Bruce came in and took over the reigns... The stats backs up the eye tests, and I'm a firm believer in, if you have a chance, you go for it... Gives the young some core experience, but just as importantly belief, that success is possible with our club. New horizons under JRs leadership. Alwyn may be the GM, but zero doubt who has the power at the club. They may already have made up their minds, on what needs to change and within what time frame, thus the changes will follow accordingly, whether we like it or not... trust the process, whatever it may be. We'll see what Millers legacy will be. One of the leader to take us on another cup run, or the player who was traded for the pieces for the next cup run.
  16. Kind of funny to read the proposals here... not that they don't sound fair, but to think only a couple of years ago, folks wanted Canucks to sell everything to get a lottery ticket for both Kappo and Lafreniere... Now they barely rate either, but wants a Kings ransom for a player Benning was hung out as being stupid to use a 1st round pick for to obtain. Just saying....
  17. The kicker for any team is surely the fact we can retain salary for the player, should it become an issue, so you'll get a 1st line C for $2.5M for 2 cracks at the can. If this isn't worth a kings ransom, we should just hold on to him until next years trade deadline.... at least. Its not as if he doesn't hold value for neither. If a team, any team, wants a top line player bang on form almost for free to support a few goes at a cup, they will have to dig deep... not a chance he goes for pittance...
  18. Had we still be bungling our way through it all, the answer would be straight forward, and the way we were looking under Green, nobody would have battered an eyelid if JR sold anyone in the building including Fin... But now.... He will be on a loser from the star, should he make some tough choices, and the players brought in didn't live up to expectations... The 1st mentioned plenty of times will, hopefully for Rangers and their fans be pick no, 32.... so although it's a first, the players coming back in the trade have to have some serious value, and not just maybe top prospects... If not, we may as well run with the horses at our disposal... I'm not going to say which prospects or players we should target or get back, as I'm not smart enough to do so... This is what the management of the Canucks gets paid to do. But lets not kid our selves, if the team goes on a run the next 5-7 games and gets into the hunt for a playoffs berth, there will be real anger amongst some of the fans , if Miller gets sold to the highest bidder... For starters Deb has already invited anyone wanting to trade Miller to dance....
