  1. Yeah, I think the contracts given out has been one of the positive changes by the new management team. They will be making mistakes, everyone does, but so far I struggle to find a real negative. And as you rightly say, Rome wasn't built in one day...if some contracts can't be shifted, they will just have to run out and we will just have to live them until that happens. JR/PA are managers not magicians...
  2. That is definitely an option as well, similar to the Hronek deal, if they feel that would make them competetive, or to give them cap space, while improving the team. Only issue is the lack of real prospects coming through the system.
  3. Age gap trades for terrible players by Allvin. Please explain? Which players are you talking about?
  4. Is that because of the path they've chosen, or the contracts they've signed? Some may not agree on the chosen path forward, but I think the contracts signed up to now are pretty decent. The big qurstion will be answered over the next year with Peteys contract, but Mika, Kiz and JTM are pretty good and close to market value. And the bottom 6 has been signed to cheap contracts... it remains to be seen, if they have to pay the piper for spending to the cap, but until we see them screwing up, I will give them an above average grade. It was always going to be hard and perhaps painful to sort the mess out. Big decisions had to be made, and it remains to be seen, if it was the right direction, but I remain optimistic until proven differently.
  5. Under Gillis a lot players took discounted / below value contracts to make the team able to compete. (It also cost a lot of NTCs).. The Management has shown, they are able to sign good value contracts. Our star player is going to get paid. They will use all kind of formulas and comparisons to reach an agreement. If they can't reach am agreement, he will be traded. Its business... One of JR/PAs advantages coming in, was they didn't really have any relationships with the players, and thus were more likely to do a hard barging with both Miller and Bo, and a few others. It has been a welcomed change.
  6. Glad they get to do training during the summer under the guidance of a coach, should they wish to do so... now we'll see, who's buying in, and who's not...
  7. He would be worth the gamble. The things I mentioned came from scouting reports, They seem to think they are question marks as well. If he was a sure thing with his size, he'd be top 5-6 even in this draft. 6'4+ big power forward with best goal scoring record in the NCAA as a 17 year old since Toews... I'm on the Wood train as well. There are likely players with higher floors than Wood at 11, but the potential to be playing at 6'4-6'5 well over 200lbs they don't have... To be honest, I find it very hard to decide, who to go for this year. Do we go for skill? speed? Dman or Forward? Center? RHD? Size? highest floor or biggest potential? Are they prepared to wait, or do they need someone to join the team soonest (cap). Boom/Bust? Normally a few stands out, but there are so many this year, and they all look like can't miss... History tells us differently though...
  8. Well it'll be interesting to see, if he does indeed follow that path. If does materialize everyone who passed on him will likely regret it... I'm not sold on it yet, but I do like the idea of what he could potentially become...
  9. Well that is what you hope for, but there is no guarantee that will happen, hence I feel he has a bigger bust potential. I do however believe he could become an elite power forward, which we are in dire need of, and have been like forever. I won't be unhappy should we draft him, but it will likely take longer to get him into the line up, than some of the other players avaiable at 11.
  10. This is what actually makes this trade really intriguing.... I like it a lot... Fun part is a lot of folks don't want Miller, as he is too old, they think our D suck, and we have too many over paid wingers... This changes the dynamic over night and addresses all the questions. Myers will be gone in a year and that's it... If OEL doesn't find form he can play 3rd pairing or ride the pine... All our problems are gone and we live happy ever after
  11. Well you may be right, but not too sure... He doesn't engage enough physically to score greasy goals, as per scouting reports, if his skating doesn't improve, and he wants to be efficient bottom 6 player, he needs to get more physical... ? The scouting reports do agree though, that he tends to make something out of nothing.
  12. Carlsson is going to be a star... And a star for the next decade + Bone is done here. His value is at an all time low, Hogs may/may not make it, and Beau gone in a year any way. So basically its Miller, Demko, 11th + next years 1st round for 3rd OA, Granlund, Peeke, Kuraly... I can live with that, if the numbers add up... If we believe in Silovs, sure why not... now that would be a block buster. If Columbus would prefer Garland or Boeser we could do that as well. Beau and Myers coming off their contracts in a year, means the team would be totally transformed over 2 years... Sign me up.
  13. Skating will be a concern with wood, but the old saying 'you can't teach size' comes very much into play here... Big boy, with silky mitts, plays in front of the net... He is very much a boom /bust player... and that, I think, is likely going to make PA stay away from him, with so many other high potential players. I think he'll take a can't miss player, even if his top potential isn't the biggest... He can't afford our top prospects not making it, even though he wants to draft a difference maker...
  14. Don't think you'll find any takers with a top 5 pick ready to swap that for our 11th + Lekkerimaki... would be great though.
  15. That is a possibility.... it would would be disappointing, but they can't let that concerns stop them from building the team. JR has tought PA the ropes, and he will also be around for these decisions. If EP want to stay, I'm sure they'll find common ground, and if they end up at $10.5M, I will pour myself a nice large Glen Livet, sit back with a wee smile on my face, and look forward to a future of hope.
  16. Tough calls... Dvorsky is going to be a warrior, I think. Wood is a real boom/bust prospect Sale is a tough one. Does he really vanish during games, and only turn up in periods during them. It will be really tough to pick one of the ones, who reaches their potential... but if you do... bang, there really are some potential stars amogst those players.
  17. Agree 100%. you don't start by giving out a huge number. Its called negotiations... they will likely end up around $10.5M'ish...(maybe 11 if PA is desperate to hang on to him). If Petey gets too hard to negotiate with, he'll be traded... simples...not what anyone wants, but Benning isn't around anymore, and I think PA has alrrady shown, he can do decent deals.
  18. Hope you're right. He is a tough defensive d man, and we are in dire need of d men like that. And a rhd at that.... There is definitely a spot available for anyone, who steps up to the plate during camp.
  19. If any one those 3 are taken, we take the one that falls out from your top 10. I've got the exact same top 10 ( not necessarily in that order, but the same 10 names). And yes after that, who knows. ASP, Moore and Danielson could be taken anywhere, just like Sale and Barlow. nice list.
  20. Good call amigo. I feel everytime, I read about a player, he becomes my new favorite. Started with Dvosky followed by Reinbacker. Then it was Leonard, then it was Wood, followed by Benson... I think these players will be gone by 11 so that leaves us ASP, More, Barlow, Sale or Danielson unless we go deeper like Honzek or Willander /Simashev.... I think that if any of the first 5 mentioned added to the top 5 is available at the 11th they will be picked. The only one I'm not sure they'll pick is Wood if they stay with speed, or if they go safe pick. One thing I'm sure off is, its going to be hard to screw this pick up, and we should get an impact player regardless of whom we draft. Either a top 6 forward or a top 4 dman. Bring it on as the waiting is killing me.
  21. Starting to be do or die time for woo... still time to go, but if he wants a career as an NHL D-man, he needs to start pushing... In saying that there are many Defenders not breaking through until 24-25 years of age. Here's hoping. Was my favourite prospect when drafted.
