VAN Ranked #3 For Prospect/Young Depth & Quality
spook007 replied to Nuxfanabroad's topic in Canucks Talk
Absolutely correct. With an unexpected flat cap due to Corona virus, its massively unfair to screw up teams who is building their teams just now... mind you being screwed over by the league is hardly anything new to the Canucks.. The writer does have a point though, and I can just see the fan base totally lose it, if anyone started to offer sheet Petey.... Imagine only to get a 1st, a 2nd and 3rd for Petey.... Someone posted a list with approx cap space for the NHL teams... Imagine a team with a lot of cap space, lots of Picks / young players coming through over the next 3-5 years, or Avs.... -
VAN Ranked #3 For Prospect/Young Depth & Quality

Yes, fun to think back at some of the comments regarding Benning drafting Petey. what an absolute steal by Benning. And to have 2 in top 5-6 would be incredible achievement by Benning... in particular bearing in mind we never drafted lower than 5th. Regarding offer sheet, I’m not too knowledgeable when it comes to contracts for the young guns ( CDC is a fountain of knowledge) , but thought I read someone say that the young guns couldn’t be offer sheeted? If they start doing that, then we could be getting problems, but wouldn’t be surprised, if it happened. With less money to play with (Bobby Lu), we might be testet.... Leave that for our Guru Benning to deal with. -

Are the Vancouver Canucks Canada's best chance at a Stanley Cup?
spook007 replied to Canucks_fo_life's topic in Canucks Talk
You may just as well not compete or enter any competition. If you don’t win thats it?.... where is the measuring stick, if you don’t try to go against the best? They didn’t win the cup and they were 9 wins away from the cup... true.... Each game would probably have been harder....yes likely. Has the team stopped developing and this a good as it gets?.... very unlikely. Unless you test yourself against the best, you’ll never know, how far you’ve come, or much more you need to do to get to the top. Would you rather swim around at the bottom of the pond another X amount of years? When is enough, enough? -
Yes of course it is... but if he is able to get more elsewhere, why would he sign that contract, bearing in mind he may be shipped out anyway? And thus he'd lose dollars for nothing... Besides who's to say he is offered 6x4?
-
To be honest, if Marky signs a contract only to be exposed in the expansion draft (and taken by Seattle), he may lose Dollars for nothing... It would be totally understandable, that in case Canucks won't protect him (ie thinks Denko will take over in a year or two), Marky might sign a contract somewhere else for $ and Term.... If he thinks, he may be on his way, he might as well make the most out of it... Its nothing personal, but they both know its business, and I'm sure Benning has been honest with Marky behind closed doors. Honesty seems to be one of Bennings fortes... Loyalty has to be shown both ways....
-
Or maybe a hint with an iron bar to Markys camp, that he is willing to walk away from Marky, unless they are reasonable...
-
Yes Nux, I think you are right though in your assumptions.... If Marky wants certainty it will be a tough one... JB may nip it in the bud to avoid the same garbage we had to endure with Lu/Schneids... In that case I think it may come down to, how much either can fetch v cap. It will be very interesting to see how JB navigates through these potentially stormy waters.

Obviously the skill of the young core and Demkos incredible performance stood out, but the one think the kept impressing me, was the attitude of the team. The the young core got Hacked, Slashed, Crosschecked etc etc they kept coming back for more.... at no time did they wince, hide or complain to the refs... On the contrary they showed heart and maturity beyond their years, and if the are ever going to win the SC this is what it takes on top of their undoubted talents... Many of the stars vanish come play off time, but ours did the opposite and shone throughout....
-
I wonder how many here will start the Fire Green and Fire Benning bon fires again, should he let Marky go and Demko doesn't continue this level of play, but becomes human again and goes back to the level of play shown prior to his 3 play offs games? Just not sure 3 outstanding games is enough to build the next part on this franchise on... If he can maintain close to his play off level, its a no brainer, but we still need a decent back up, and how much will that cost (Miller 6mill)... Think we'd do better sign Marky with no (or limited clauses, so he can be exposed in the expansion). Keep both for the start of the season, lets see Demko play more games and take it from there... I'd say key is being able to expose Marky at the expansion draft. Although I think, Markys camp can see the writing is on the wall as well, and may go for max dollars...what ever that may be. Why take a discount if you may get traded... This could be another controversy that will split the fan base in to love Benning / Fire Benning...

This is something not a lot has been talked about. Was thinking the same thing, while watching... If they get mauled, they don’t dive or winge... they just get on with it. It has been refreshing to see, and I believe its the way to get our fair share of decision from the refs. Thought in general we were treated ok by the refs (ofcourse there were some less than impressive decisions mare, but they were often even both ways), and that might have been one of the reasons. I know, I like to see them getting back up and carry on if it goes against them. Save the complaining to a rainy day, when it is needed.

Great summary Blaze. Couldn’t agree more. They were dead on their feet and couldn’t cope with less than 24 hours between the games.... they didn’t have enough time to recoup after the heavy hitting from Vegas, and they just ran out of steam. People say Vegas had the same time to recoup, but its easier when you do the heavy hitting. I have enjoyed this roller coaster immensely and can’t praise them enough. I see some unfortunate comments about the team along the pages, and think some folks needs a reality check. From where we were, discussing if giving up prospects to have a run, without knowing if we could get into the play offs, till going to game 7 in the WC semis against one of the favorites... boys have nothing to be ashamed of. And as one satisfied customer can’t wait for the next season to start... whenever that may be.

Well they won 2 of those... The team just didn’t have anything left, which was abundenly clear during the 5 min PP. Be happy that the furure looks so rosy for this team. They’ve been screwed over by Luongo re-cap and garbage like that, and yet here they were, with the two most prominent players on the team just 1and 2 years in to their NHL careers... The emergence of Demko, Bo being top of the scoring charts, Miller etc etc It hurts not to advance, it always does, but the sky is blue and the future looks so good. There is gold at the end of the rainbow, and these players will lead us to a SC eventually.
