How about we take this discussion halfway through this upcoming season, provided Sutter stays healthy. I have a good feeling that his stats are going to improve severely with the new arrivals to our team. Being injured half the season and playing with changing line mates doesn't help anyones stats.... scape goat springs to mind...

Name your favorite temporary Canuck in the Benning era!
spook007 replied to Rush17's topic in Canucks Talk
Dorsett... all heart... Miller... all heart... Would have loved those two to be part of, what is about to happen here... -
Now wouldn't that just be something... dropping a Naslund together with Podkolzin into this pool of players in two years time? Could see a cup coming to a city near you...

What are you most excited about for the upcoming season?
spook007 replied to cuporbust's topic in Canucks Talk
Just counting days to start the hockey. Voted play offs, but actually looking very much forward to see all the new comers... This could be the season where we wash all the ' turn the other cheek' scars away, and start handing out the punishment. So damn excited for the season to get under way. -

[Report] Canucks sign GM Jim Benning to contract extension

Mostly pretty much bang on... I like JB, and I do like the team, he has build. We now look like, we are able to stand up to the bullies in the league as well as go toe to toe with the skilled teams. It remains to be seen, if the team can live up to the billing, but the possibility is certainly there. And of course there has to be a certain connection as well as agreement between the GM and the owners of the way forward. After all they pay the bills... The fact they extend him now have two purposes. Firstly a show of appreciation towards Benning for having done the job, he set out to do, and secondly to buy into the excitement of the fans... Positive vibes sells tickets... This doesn't change the fact that Aquilini can get rid of Benning at any time, if he should choose to do so. In management everyone gets replaced eventually.... -

YES...... Great news... Well deserved Jim. This is the most positive I've seen Canucks land since 2012... Goes to show that owners have total faith in Jim Benning and his team building.... So bloody happy... -
Do You Have Confidence In The Canucks Front Office..?
spook007 replied to Honky Cat's topic in Canucks Talk
On point. Thank you. You have an idea, which you try to use as a base. As you move along, you likely will see a places where you need to rectify you plan, and then you do so. How can this be hard to understand. After all its like that in all walks of life... Bravo Smithers. -
This is exactly the Goldy problem... Its top 6 or bust. But if he could get it going that line up would be drool... That third line would be the envy of the league...and that's still without Roussel... Might even consider swapping Goldy w Boeser, if only Goldy could add compete to his arsenal.... But I doubt he will be in the line up from the start of the season...

Agree 100%. They struggled with Perreira and Pogba and only McTomeney as the anchor. But it was the first game. It will be very interesting to see if they learned their lesson, when they meet Wolves on Monday night. -
Happy birthday Tanner

After Sundays showing I'd argue he probably is... Maguire and AWB were really good against Chelsea. Whether that is enough to make Utd a top 4 side remains to be seen, but the first target in rebuilding Utd was a proper CB and Maguire fits the bill... One can only wonder if Utd would have been playing CL football had Mourinho gotten his wish and signed Maguire last year... Like the OGS is giving the youth the chance. Sink or swim time for the likes of Lingard, Rashford, Martial and Pereira... However still needs some beef in the middle of the park. Will be challenging for top 4... -
Great expectations can lead to bitter disappointment
spook007 replied to BrockBoester's topic in Canucks Talk
Hope for playoffs, expect us to contend for a playoffs position to the end. If we do so I think JBs TG jobs are safe, however if we fail badly or fold halfway through the season, I think, despite being a big fan of Bennings, questions will be asked about our management and coaching team. JB is accelerating the train now, which his summer dealings suggests, and like all other he lives and dies by his sword, and rightly so. Now is the time to start the push anyway. Hopefully OJ and Woo will start their push over the next two years together with Polz, maybe Trym as well as a fair few prospects hopefully ready to push for a place in the line up, now is the time to start the push. Play this right and we could have a good team for the next 6-8 years at least. As always hoping for the best for next season. Bring it on.... -
If Loui Eriksson stays what can make you come to terms with it?
spook007 replied to JM_'s topic in Canucks Talk
This... hoping for a great season for ALL of our Canucks... If JB or TG feel there's anything to deal with, they will do so...if not he will be given the chance based on camp, like everyone else. -
[Rumor] Boeser Camp Eyeing 4 Year Deal Worth $28M

Good post Ibatch -
It was only one season in LA (17 games) and in Pittsburgh he put up .3 before being traded to us. His numbers have always hoovered around .4-.5 each season, except for last season. he still managed more than .4 over the rest of theseason between Nux and Penguins. Looks like a fairlysteady points producer. Time will tell... but as it stands now, there’s room for him on either on Horvats wing or the 3rd line wing.
-
True.... But some times hand meets glove.... The kind of hard nosed hockey Pearson produced while playing with Horvat, was far better than I expected. And better than Leipsic were be able to... Absolutely right though, there will be no room for passengers on this train, which is why depth is so important... hence I don’t support the good bye Baertschi. Pearson can also play the 3rd line checking role.... what numbers he’ll get from there remains to be seen. His numbers have always hoovered around .4-.5 each season, except for the disastrous start to last seasons campaign w Kings, where he got traded after 1 point in 17g, he still managed more than .4 over the rest of the season between Nux and Penguins. Looks like a fairly steady points producer. But yes just like anyone on this team, if there’s a deal that can improve the team or save cap, while providing the same, then of course they can be traded.

Think Baer with Bo and Miller/Ferland would be just what the doctor ordered. Pearson with Sutter and Jake likewise For all the posts referring to his concussions, Crosby has had as many and he still fights for every puck. How about you let it play out in training camp, before you let go of a player, who has been a good fit with Horvat. Regarding Pearson, who was fantastic on Horvats wing, and who may still end up there again, as far as I remember he won his Stanley cups playing in the 3rd line. So he will be just as good, important in that position. With our history over the last few years with injuries, I don’t think shipping out top 6 or 9 players are the way forward, as long as they can be fitted in under the cap. That may change, but for now, I’m not so sure....
-
Thank you.... Pearson was one of the most exciting things to happen to this team after EP last season (and Quinns first few games). Will be bitterly disappointed if Pearson isn’t on the team to start the season. Can play second and third line position equally easy.

Goalies: if Marky can continue his play (a big if) they we’ll be good. Clarke seems to have the key to unlock Marky. B Defence: have added beef to the back line. A lot of discussion regarding the Myers contract, but right up to FA he was touted as the best FA defender. Benning got him as well as Benn so should be a huge upgrade together with Edler for another couple of years. C+ (B-) Forwards: I really like, what Benning has done to our forward lines. We can ice 4 very good lines and still have a few players available in case of injuries. We’ve got speed and toughness, to go with our skill. B+ (borderline A-) Overall, the weaknesses, which was there for all to see, were addressed by Benning. He did, what he said, he would. So in that respect Benning gets an A for doing, what he said, he would do. Will it work out? Who knows, and after the season ends he may end up with an D or an F, if it doesn’t, but he addressed our weaknesses and baring another season of a ridiculous amount of injuries we will hoover around 95points(+), and I expect playoff hockey next season. One pleased fan.
