While you may be right, I blame Florida... as they could have asked him to LTIR. I think, he was told by the the Florida organisation NOT go the LTIR route.... and if so, why would he go against the wishes of his present/ future employer. Either way, this stinks.... absolutely pathetic ruling by the NHL.... I can wait to see, what happens, when Weber retires....

Yeah...2.2m less to work with....thanks Florida...

[Report] Nichushkin on waivers for purpose of buyout
spook007 replied to Gaudette Celly's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
For all the stick and flack MG has taken over the year, and rightfully so, I thank the almighty, he chose Bo with the ninth pick from Schneider trade... We could have ended up with nothing. -
Guess they could ask tomato boy or Kanucks25. They have all the answers....

[Signing] Jordie Benn signs with Canucks
spook007 replied to CanucksCountry's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Don’t think we could fit this under the cap, but damn that would be a team I’d settle for -
This is the best part... the younger players now will have the time needed to break through and the support once they do. Fab news.

Thank you.... some people...

Please be true.... Benning true to his word if this is indeed the case. He would fix the defence.... he is definitely trying to do so. And he added a top 6 player to play with EP and BB.... very pleased.

I hope Miller is a huge upgrade on Shaw. Otherwise we may as well turn off the light, when we leave....

Disagree. While some of the FA’s were bad moves, I don’t think the the signing vets on the team just now are wasted assets. Of course we’ve been at the bottom as we are in the middle of a rebuild, but that doesn’t mean we should just float our team with garbage and let the youngsters figure it out themselves. Apathy and expectations the worst in 20 years... yeah what did you expect from a team that went from being the best in the league for several years to near the worst. The opinion was very varied on whether it was a good or bad move amongst the fans. The fact Sedins went down the drain and LE vanished made it a bad move. Maybe if the Sedins had had an up swing in form and LE been a star a few extra players could have made it interesting. Hindsight.... It was to give it one last go with the Sedins and it failed miserably. Think it had a lot to do with our owners, but regardless since they couldn’t move the Sedins they went with the flow. Nothing to do with giving kids a good example. Who knows... are we not getting anyone else in the next two years? VP coming in two years will be on ELC maybe a few of Hoglander, Woo, Lind, Lockwood. Excellent...

Who says it isn't important? Every thing is important... development of the youth is important, Supporting the youth with wets, who knows what it takes is important. Winning is important... I'm sure Benning would have loved to not have LE eat up all the cap or play like a top 6 so he didn't have to acquire Miller... or even better LE play like top six with Miller, so we could be play offs bound. Or not have Luongo penalty cap hits him with an iron bar... or not have OJ injured so he could play on a cheap contract... Lots of ifs and buts... You know what is short sighted... to have potential superstars and then let the swim on their own with other AHL players or has beens, who is there to only collect their pay check.... If you don't believe it, check out Oilers... Could it be thats the reason Benning just required Miller? To speed the process up? so they can utilise the ELC's? And lets see what happens next... Benning was not in a position to deal anything at the start of his tenure here.... NTC's on everyone. Bleeding assets? the assets are only worth what other wants today for them... if nobody is prepared to pay, they are worthless... and of course the small matter before mentioned NTC's IF it's picks you're referring to....Can't bothered arguing over that... Its been discussed to death. And a great way with numbers.... Picking stars in top 10 picks yes, but nothing lower than a 5th... stop spinning it around... And what creativity would that be... He just required Miller... Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean its not creative...

Way to play the numbers game... These teams were drowning in top 3 picks let alone top 10 picks in period mentioned. Bennings been drafting well without having top 4 picks Bening draft position: 5,6,6,7,10 Oilers : 1,1,1,7,3,1,4 BJ's : 4,8,1,4,8,6,6,7,6 AT's : 2,1,2,8,10,3,4 NYI's: 6,4,5,9,2,3,4,9,5,1 I'd say its easier for those teams to draft well than its been for Benning. Agree. His job is to ensure the Scouting system works. The fact he has an eye for a player, makes it easier for him to make the call. Agree its a risk... But if it works out we will see play off hockey again within the next 2 years. If not I think Benning will be gone... Aquilinis want play off hockey back to town (as do most of us), and he needs to try and utilise the ELC deals over the next years. The interesting one being VP as he will probably be able to go straight in to the line up when he comes in two years time. But it's a gamble. If it doesn't work, we will have lost a 1st round pick in two years time, but if it does work, its a price worth paying. You don't know he could get Miller if he didn't pay the price... You Think, he could because Tampa was under pressure, but Tampa could have made another deal, so they didn't need to deal Miller, or even have dealt him to another team. Some times you got pay, for what you want... Again maybe... Who's to say Marleau wanted to come to Vancouver? Maybe Tampa didn't think the pick was high enough for it being sufficient to make the deal... You don't know any of this just like me... But if you are right, then we would have benefitted from it...but again, we just don't know that is the case. Yes disagree... The way I see it is Benning making a good environment for our new young stars to thrive in. Seasoned pros who all contribute in some ways the youngsters can learn from. Injuries to Sutter derailed it somewhat, but nobody could see that coming (he was iron man when he signed here)... LE was a bad contract (after LE's showing with the Sedin at the olympics it looked like it could be a dynamite line, but Sedins sudden drop and LE's none existence killed that off... ). Gudbransson was brought in to be a top destroyer and top 4 Dman, but this also failed. At the time he was brought in there was a severe need for some beef on the backend, sio the trade was understandable. It didn't work out and now its turned in to Pearson, who I'd take any day in my line up ahead of McCann and a low pick. Schaller was a poor choice, but he's gone next season, together with the long list I wrote down of players leaving over the next year or two. So once the youngsters have had time to develop and will need raises these contracts are gone. And regarding signing inflated deals... well when you are a bottom feeder yo don't get players to play for you unless you pay. I'm sure there would have been other players Benning could have gotten cheaper, but they may not have been what he wanted to support his new young stars... No thats on MG (he tried to gain an advantage, and the rest of the league nailed him), just like all the NTC's and NMC's... As there were no rules against it I find it disheartening that the league actually is going uphold the ruling especially with Florida benefiting from it. Maybe if we had treated Luongo better we wouldn't have had this problem now. I believe we will, and I believe within two years we will see play off hockey again. Will the team be strong enough to become a contender? Remains to be seen, but after Blues SC success anything is possible.

Do you think our top 6 would be paid less had we had a team full Gaunces on the bottom two lines? Regardless Benning brought in a lot of experienced pro for two reasons I’m sure A: to help out our youngsters to become good pros and help them develop and B: if he had fielded a team of cheap plugs, how many people do think would be sitting in the stands... a lot of politics involved in this as well. And with the out look a few years back, I think you’d find it hard to get good pros to come to Vancouver without paying over market value. And yes I stand up for Benning cause some the mud slung his way is pathetic. Does that make me a ‘blind’ follower? Maybe, but so far he has not made any moves, that makes me feel the need to criticise him endlessly. I didn’t feel the need to criticise Gilles constantly neither, until the end. I could understand, what he was trying to achieve, and was 1 game from achieving it. Benning is still paying for MGs way of running the club. Bennings hands were tied when he started due to all the NTC’s, NMC’s etc. All the garbage about contracts like these are moved all the time, is just hot air. The faults of Benning is mostly hindsight related. LE signing? At the time I though it could be a killer line as they had clicked so well during Olympics. Expensive? Not if it had worked out. In hindsight it was a terrible move. I thought Gudbransson was a great signing, as he represented something, we sorely missed. Again it didn’t work out here, but who knew that. Was he expensive? Maybe, but a top 4 dman, with the ability to destroy others was never going to come cheaply. Again Benning realised his mistake and turned him into Pearson. A player I’d take any day over McCann. I don’t wanna go into the pick used/acquired debate as its been discussed to death, and we've disagreed on this before. I do understand the concerns of some regarding the conditional first used in the Miller deal, but again I also understand the reasoning behind it. It shows our youngsters that we are trying to get better and start competing now. Bo must be delighted to see more quality brought to the group. Only time will tell if its a good or bad move, but I’m glad we are now moving forward. I wanna start winning some games. Bennings faultless? Nope...but I don’t see his faults being any worse than those made by the other managers in the league. Although I’d say looking like Dracula on lottery day a few years back was probably a massive fail.... but no I fully believe in, what Bennings doing.

Jim Benning: June 27th, 2019 (Recapture penality/free agency)

Are you in for or against JB's drafting....? And the trade for Miller suggests Benning are trying to give EP and Boeser a good player to play with, no? All the expensive third and forth liners you mentioned, are they holding back Bennings ability to pay EP, Boeser or QH? By the time EP and QH's next contracts are to be signed, a mix of Sutter, Baertschi, Pearson, Spooner, Leivo, Schaller, Hutton, Edler, Tanev and god knows who else will be off the books, with Rousell and Beagle the year after... Of these Beartschi and Pearson does score at decent second line pace... Hopefully a few of the young players from the system will be pushing for a starting slot at that time.... So which expensive 3rd and 4th lines are going to hold Benning back from signing them? Luongos 3 mill cap penalty was a spanner in the wheel, and could be an issue, but this was hardly the fault of Benning... Its Benning faultless...far from it. But at least Aquilinis seems to understand where the team is heading. And thankfully they are in charge. If nothing has improved in 2 years time I can see a change, but for now I see no reason to change anything.

This is really unfair on Luongo. He loves the Vancouver fans, but I would still think that the treatment he received on Torts watch still stings... Florida have been good to him so he is hardly going to go against their wishes. The real d!cks in this, is Florida for pushing him to retire instead of LTIR and the league ( all the clubs) for coming up with this ridiculous back dated rule in the first place. PS. I’m also enraged by this... never expected this to happen, but Florida just gave Canucks a one fingered salute.... Hopefully one day we will be able to do the same.
