Fair to say if they could get ‘Ice’ on the wing, they’d be heading for disaster
-
If you could get that done, I’d be all for something along those lines... I do like Gadj, but we are still in need of d prospects...
-
Probably... don’t think we have enough in the ranks of value we can afford to give up...maybe. A lot of posters wanted to use Gaudette as bait... not sure. ( not together w a 2nd though...)
-
Think Agent is close. Possibly our second + a prospect or maybe even next years second/third. From 40 to 25... not sure how expensive it’ll be...
-
If Soderstrom and Seider in particular fall this far Benning has to get some sort of deal done...Could go a long way towards solidifying our d-core.
-
Wonder if you could get TO to add Kapanen to the trade proposal Alf made earlier? would like to see Kapanen on Bo’s line...
-
On the fence with Milan to Vancouver, but pending on, what the + could be, it would have to be considered.
-
Doesn’t look too bad does it? and still Sutter, Baertschi and Hutton... Looks like a team that can push for a play off spot.... or maybe not. Does Trym play the right though?

[Speculation] Boeser not close to extension
spook007 replied to Patrick Jane's topic in Canucks Talk
So why bring it up... I corrected this once it was highlighted it could be seen as such. But to avoid any confusion... EP had a great year and is a great player. Just like Brock did the year before...as a first year nhl player....all be it a great one. Better? True... just like I said in my previous post... It was actually amazing that they both as a new top line partnership, one in his first season and the other in only his second (coming of serious injury) and with various other line mates of lesser quality, were producing as well as they were. While, like most players, Brock will benefit from playing with EP, he also did produce the year before without EP, and was possibly only an injury away from serious Calder consideration... We can replace these players with similar ability for less money, but if we have more money available, we could possibly replace them with better quality, if we have more money available. True it doesn’t always play out like that, hence its a gamble. I think its fair to expect a good improvement. As I said Bo has improved every year despite signing long term. But of course no guarantees. Again true. But if the last few years have shown anything Benning is getting it in the neck if his signings doesn’t live up to expectations, and rightfully so, as he gets to make the decisions. Speculation.... while you a likely right, we don’t know money will motivate him more. Bo Horvat did ok despite a long contract, so money isn’t necessary the only motivation. Yes management will. Again my point was that at the moment money isn’t an object, but could become so once we are ready to contend. Totally agree. This is what we all hope for. Whether our own RFA’s will follow Bo lead remains to be seen though... team building through fans glasses isn’t always the same as the players. Again true. Of course it is seen as a good thing if our Players are playing well after their 2nd RFA or at all times. And then you pay them.... If you have the money left to do so. And thats why I think it should be considered to have a long term contract where the money is evened out. And probably at a lower total cost because of the gamble. I get what you are saying but still think there’s room to consider the alternative. Anyway thanks for your long response. Have a good night. -

I have no idea, its a gamble....but as you said yourself 'I'd like him to become a 40-50goals scorer as fast as possible'... It again comes down to having the money now to pay him, and save it for in 4 years time, when everyone most likely will look for massive payments, should they continue to improve... Thats the gamble, but nothing suggests they won't... Them being being Horvat, EP, BB and QH... Lets wait and see. JB got a good deal with Horvat, but in 4 years when he is 28 and hopefully in his prime years, he'll be expensive if he continues his improvement. Regardless Theo, I get you point and as I said before, I have no idea, how it will end up, but I just won't be surprised if he'll be paid a bit more than you suggested. -

Pardon? Come on now... My point is in 3 years EP Will have skyrocketed and BB will follow suit... as will most goalscorer playing with a superstar like EP. Actually read it back, and can see how you said this... have changed it now. Cheers. -

The Calder front runner is still a rookie by definition, who also ran out of steam towards the end. Don't believe for a second, it was just because he focussed on, but we'll see next season. Had EP been able to keep it up, BB might very likely have broken the 30 goals barrier and maybe even 35 goals, bearing in mind his production improved as got back to better health/confidence after his back injury? LE, Sutter, Beagle, Roussel may be off the books, but will have to replaced by other players, and hopefully there will be room in the budget to get better players or at least as good players to surround EP. BB and Bo. If anything that was what Gillis achieved although it cost us the future by trading away our top picks and adding NTC to everything bar the the door man. I'm not assuming anything, but its fair to expect a 22 year old player, who's only had two full seasons in the league, to improve a fair bit still. The point being, at the moment we lots of room to pay the players, where as when we truly becomes a contender we may need the space. Either way it will be interesting to see how it pans out, and we can and will without doubt have the debate afterwards whether to hail Benning or Lynch him. -

If he becomes a 40-50 goal scorer you’ll have to pay a lot more than 7 for him. That why you’d gamble on him improving to keep the average down. Bo keeps improving. Had he been as good, when he signed his last contract as he was the year after signing it, he would probably also have gotten paid more. -

Don’t know it’ll be quite WN money, but 7,5+ won’t be out of reach for long term contract. Quite interesting how quickly people start to drop on our future star players. One sided? Possibly, but lots of room to improve. When your one ability is to score goals, you are going to get paid. If they do a bridge deal ( a show me deal) I don’t see more than a few years, as I think BB wants to be paid quickly. (After his injury, he would surely have in the back of his mind, how quickly his career could end). Remember when Edler got his 5M contact extension with NMC there was lots of posters complaining about him being paid too much. Don’t think many still think so. Comparing BB production to Timo Meier... BB was playing top line with a rookie EP (a superstar in the making) and Baertschi or who ever 3rd liner available, meeting the oppositions best D-men every game, where Meier was surrounded by stars good enough to go to conference finals. Highly doubt Meier would have been able to accomplice similar production success at this stage had he been on a rebuilding team like Canucks. Don’t know if BB ever will be faster like Bo (doubt it), but if he did, what would separate Paranin from him? If he takes a bridge deal for 3-4 years, he need to be paid big time just around the same time as Bo.... and Hughes and Pettersson, and then we could end in Cap hell like some of the other teams we laugh at....(or we could trade him for 2 first rounders and restart our rebuilding /s). -

Sorry Rick, but think you'd be a lousy agent, if you thought Boeser 55 goals over 2 seasons were worth 'only' $1M more than Schmaltz 34 goals over 3 years.. His agent probably thinks his worth 10M/year.... But joking aside you bring up a good comparison, and it also gives a feel for, how much Canucks probably will have to pay Boeser for a long term contract. Time will tell but if he get same length of contract he'll get at least 7.5/year and more likely 8+/year. I see a few posters, saying that its overpayment, but the marked dictate what is overpayment and what's not. Anything and anyone is worth what people are willing to pay. In saying all the above, once the cat and mouse discussions are over, he could actually end up signing a team friendly contract like Horvat, but it remains to be seen.... -
Great memories...still loves the enthusiasm and joy shown by Horvat at being drafted by Canucks... Miles away from the 'It is what it is...' statement made by McCann a year later... Imagine if we will be able to get as much of an impact player this year at 10....

[Discussion] Value of our 2021 1st
spook007 replied to J.I.A.H.N's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Cheers Jan. I do believe, you could be right and we are getting close, however I don't want to get myself disappointed in case it does take longer. We may be at the dance as soon as next year as a bubble team, but then miss it the year after... it happens to bubble teams I am not at all against getting a get a few players through FA on the contrary... I think we could solidify our top 6 and improve our D-core substantially by doing so. My only concern is to trade away future 1rd picks... Once we are getting to the dance, being able to regularly supplement the squad with younger players, is what keeps teams under the cap. Obviously with the expansion on the horizon, getting FA's could be risky, in particular if they come with clauses... Guess the one thing I fear in particular, is not having our 1st rd pick, should we win the lottery... The joy is, I don't have to make the call, so I get to sit back in the cheap seats with my popcorn and watch it unfold... PS wouldn't mind the Tampa idea as long as it would max cost us a 2nd. Cheers amigo. I would be delighted, if we could get a good defender with size in FA. I still believe that we need good players with size to supplement players like Hughes....or as you said in another post, players who plays 'Big'... I don't really see that in our D-core except for Schenn, and he may not even be back. (Stecher plays biggish... but still...) Karlsson is a tricky one, as he who take a huge slice of our cap space. Not sure about the, all the eggs in one basket scenario... He would improve our points total instantly, of course provided he stay healthy. But I think we need more than Karlsson to be properly competitive, and think Karlsson would be too early... Maybe not... Still a few holes to be covered. Size/toughness on back end, 1LW, 2RW, RHD... if Lind or Madden could take the 2RW, and Karlsson the RHD, we could be 2 years development of a Krebs or similar LW away from contending? (I'm just going by what I've read). As I said to Jan, I just don't like to give away the lottery ticket.....but of course everything has its price -
[Discussion] Value of our 2021 1st

Don’t like the idea of trading our future first round picks for this years first round picks. I get the idea of trying to speed things up, but .... 1. Is the quality really that high in the lower 1st. this year, that we desperately need them? 2. Since there is no guarantee we will be at the dance in two years time, trading our 1 round pick unprotected could end up being one of the biggest downers like ever, should the club A finally get lucky an win the lottery, or B if they get a rotten year and end up like Ottawa this season. 3. When we eventually starts to get competitive again for real, the picks, 1st rounds in particular, are hopefully, whats gonna make it possible keep a strong team of our own stars + top FA players under the cap... So despite the wish for Christmas to come early or the envious eyes towards the goody bag of picks, getting picks for future picks could come back to haunt us....unless....of course Jb sees a player available that he is 100% sure will end up being a top player. JB’s job is on the line if he gambles and it back fires for any of the above listed reasons. -
Poll: Should the Canucks sign Brock Boeser for 8 years
spook007 replied to Sedinyoureyesontheprize's topic in Canucks Talk
Don't know about salary but North of 7.5 would be expected. He'll be 30, when it expires, so I'd expect him to want decent money. I hope they do a long term deal or alternatively do a deal, that ensures he is still RFA, when the contract expires. Don't care if there is clauses attached to BB contract...expect him to be with us for near enough the next decade. -
Why??? I will not go back and recheck on Canucks history, but has any of the players drafted by the Canucks from the NCAA ever like ever jumped ship? So why so negative?
-
http://lastwordonhockey.com/2019/04/11/victor... Good write up on Victor Soderstrom.... Still, if Benning believe Seider will be able to compete in the NHL, I hope he takes a chance on him... alternatively take Soderstrom. He sounds like Tanevs replacement. slightly smaller, but with the ability to put up points.

Fair enough.

It was my point JR. If Edler goes, and Trym doesn’t return, we’ve got Woo, who plays physically, Juolevi, who we don’t know, if he plays physically? or after all his injuries, he’ll be Tanev. It started with a draft suggestion that we draft more small sized D men will our lower picks. We did draft a player, whom is hopefully going to be our pp q-back + we got 1 or 2 more of smaller stature with potential. What I’m advocating is more players on the back end with size, who can punish forwards and clear the crease in front of the goal. I think it was evident last season, that we at times were struggling with big forwards, and didn’t have anyone on the backend with a ‘nasty’ streak in them. Gudbranson was a player we hoped could be (size and he could fight), but it didn’t work for him here, Although I really hoped it would. I’m just looking, at what we’ve got in the system and besides Woo, who is still ‘only’ 6’ do we have anyone, who is capable of fighting and play nasty on the back end ( Edler can and did last season, but is not a fighter). Hutton is not that punishing neither. During regular season yes all the speedsters run rings around everyone, but Think these play offs, has shown its mostly the big boys, who determine, what happens next. And thus as I said, I think we need both speed and Skill and SIze. Just my 5c anyway.
