  1. Just accept players wanna play. They play for their futures and don't care about drafts and futures, where they may not even be playing. Are you going to trade QH, Kuz and Petey away to sink deeper? We are all in the same boat, and we all wish for a great prospect to be drafted, but if the players play good hockey, there is little you can do about it. Just enjoy the ride as much as possible.
  2. Yes, the players don't tank intentionally... They are all playing for their futures. Furthermore doubt players are interested in the draft that much as they want to win now, while they are playing. Not in 4-6 years when they may not be playing or have been traded. They all live in the now....
  3. What????? you think they don't want their leg over during the summer? Imagine sun, sangria, pina coladas, calypso music, dancinh close on the beach under palm trees and..... stop... I can't have my leg over, as you may be pregnant during the season... yeah right....
  4. I do expect that to be the case too. I anyone offers a second for Schenn be it straight up or with retention, I fully expect him to be gone, with the promise, they'll have a contract ready as soon as play offs are over in case he wants it.
  5. We kinda did with expiry daye in another 4 years....
  6. Have to say it depends on the return... Vancouver have been far too nice to a lot of players over the years, and it has been costly. There is not a single soul supporting Canucks, who doesn't love Schenn, and the club has been good to him as well, but beggers can't be choosers... if we get a good offer, we have to take it. Schenn is not a kid anymore, and as the vet he is, he would fully understand this. furthermore its the birth of his 3rd child and unless there are expected issues, I'm sure they'll cope. If Schenn want to stay in Vancouver, they may give him a 2 year deal afterwards or even 3 if he wants certainty, but if a good offer comes in, he's gone.
  7. You better be prepared... happens just about every time.
  8. You have to wonder if the order came from above? Gilles and Torts both wanted a total rebuild and was let go... I totally agree, and definitely in hindsight, it took the organisation nowhere over a long period of time. Unless the players in the 21-23 range are proven commodities, the likelyhood of them never making the final step is too big.
  9. Great very ballanced post @jyu Bravo.
  10. Yeah true... Willie was sacked, and then Green hired... Have to wonder though, if JB was told from above that he would not get to choose another coach? Green should never had been extended and definitely not the defensive guru Baumer So yes thats on JB...
  11. Again speculations Fred. Not saying you are wrong as there is lots that suggests that, and that is just, how it is. You live by the sword, you die by the sword, but there can only be one at the top, to make the final decision, in everything that goes on in this organisation. He will let other do their duties, and if he is happy with, what they do, or if he feels they are better than him, then he will lean more towards their opinion, but in the end he carries the can for everything good or bad within the organisation. And one of his jobs is to pick players at the draft. And it would be utterly insane, if you think, you are good at your job, not to partay in the discussion of, who you pick in your first round. Benning picked Petey, nobody else... He may have been talked into doing so by Hammerström, Brackett, Weisbrod or whom ever, but in the end he made the call. Just like he did with JV and McCann, Brock and QH.... What I don't understand is, while the whole world seems to think Benning stunk for picking JV and OJ all the hits in the first round seems to be credited to others? Where do people know this from and secondly in the end the final say, in Vancouver under Benning at least, was Bennings... helped by lots of scouts and feedbacks etc., but it was Benning, who made the call.
  12. Yeah two things Fred, We will never know, what the real reason was for Brackett leaving. We can assume, he didn't get to do, what he wanted, and get full authority over the drafts... Right or wrongly, I can understand why Benning wouldn't totally relinquish control over the one part he was sup[posed to be good at... The debate with Timrå was that Benning deserved credit for picking Petey, regardless of who told him to do so... That fact can not be disputed...
  13. Cheers. Edited the post. please see post above ^^^^^
  14. Drafted beyond round 3... Silovs? Perhaps: McDonough Rathbone Other clubs: Forsling Gaudette Not fantastic, but not totally empty.
  15. Listen Timrå, I'm not going into a debate about worse GMs etc. I stated, he deserves credit for picking Petey.... And even if he turned out to be the devil in disguise, he still picked Petey. And it matters less if it was because of Hammerstrōm, Weisbroad, Santa or some caveman from Africa. He made the call, and trying to move away from that fact, by all kind of questions and comparisons doesn't change it one jolt... Petey was picked by Jim Benning... It was a great pick by Benning. End off....
  16. Yeah it didn't work, withy neither Willie nor Green. Kind of wonder, if this was all down to bad coaching, or in part down to poor team building. Willie did get the team to the playoffs (poor performance v Flames). The roster the year after was done. Going through the roster makes one realise how poor it really was...
  17. It well known, its almost as certain as taxes, that GMs gets canned at some stage... Agree, that comparing it very hard, as what did they have to start with, what did they leave at the end, did their players perform to expectation, did draft picks live up expectation etc etc etc.... GMs do NOT have a crystal ball, and while some definitely have a better plan than others, there are lots of unpredictables in play, so even the best can come a cropper.... (not saying JB was the best ). And then there is the unknown of, how much does the owner dictate, what happens next... If he is very 'engaged' the GM could end up being a GM only by title....
  18. Yep, you can find a lot that could have been a lot better, but that still doesn't change the fact he picked Petey.... Big mistake in extending Green and Baumer...
