  1. Remains to be seen, but he fits perfectly on that line with Kuz and Petey.
  2. Best takes from the game 1 Petey 5 points 2 Kuzmenkos bee line to Schenn after scoring his tap in from Schenns beauty pass. Team player.... 3 Petey shaking his head at Kuz eating a banana on the bench.... just magic.
  3. Spot on.... And to be honest, if all it took what shooting a lot of puck in the offseason, why wait until its coming up for a contract year? Bo many continue to score for fun, but I have my doubts too.... In the end its a business decision...
  4. Bingo... I doubt that FA would allow JR/PA to go on a prolonged tank, but at the same time, I'm sure he sees the benefit in us stinking of the joint at the moment. There is not a person supporting Canucks, who can't see the benefit in getting as low as possible now, where we are... send everyone who has as much as a sore tooth to LTIR and don't risk us suddenly becoming Boston or Tampa the last 10-15 games...
  5. Again, I agree, but its like doing Tour de France free of drugs in the 90s or 00s, while the rest were drugged up to their eyeballs in performance enhancing drugs... You may win, but its almost impossible without doing what other teams do... I've never supported a tank, but as bad as this season started and with Demko going down and the Mika, I wish they had sucked even harder this season... the top prize being a generational talent, and seeing Chicago putting themselves in prime position to get a real game changer again, has made me say enough... If you can't beat them, join them...
  6. I agree. By fairplay I mean towards other teams in the league... If you have played double headers against most of the teams in the beginning of the season, and then start a whole sale half way through the season, its unfair as the competition for the remaining teams you meet is far easier, and could easily be the difference between which team enter the play offs... I also think the whole concept of accepting to lose and being ok with setting your team up to lose (by management), is against the whole idea of competition, but that is the way it works, when you give the weakest first pick etc... Its basically, the worse the failure the better the outcome.... The players might try their best, but nobody will make me believe, that when/if the chips are down, a team, that by management is set up to lose, is going to give 110% in order to win. Its the natur of the beast, and yes of course its the best for Anaheim and Chicago, but it gives me a sour taste, knowing Chicago sucked ass, got two superstars and won 2 cups, and then just suck ass again and now are looking on the forefront to get yet another game changer... Maybe we should do the same. Sign Petey, QH and Kuz to top dollars then over pay a bunch of garbage players for 2 year contracts, to meet the floor and suck the life out of it. Then after 2 years buy a a few good vets and a top keeper to fill the roster with and then 3 years down the line, while the stars comes in on ELC get a cup or two... If Petey, QH or Kuz says no then trade for gold dust. More chances to win the lottery... definitely far better than what we've been trying to do the last 8 years.
  7. That is very noble Stawns, but this is how the league is set up ,for you to operate in order to become competitive.... I agree, it totally against fair play and any sort of integrity, but if you want to build a team that has a chance to win, you have to run with the wolves... This is how it works now a day. All cup winners bar Boston has had a few top picks in their line up. This is not to say top picks guarantee you the SC, but without it, you'll really struggle to go all the way.
  8. Biggest difference i Demko being injured. the team has scored lots of goals, but just not been able to keep them out. Fact is, if you can't get to the playoffs, you may as well sink like a stone... Its a pretty garbage way for integrity, but its the reality... The team needs reinforcement, and in this cap world, good players on ELCs or second contracts are gold. Lets win the lottery or at least get 1 of the top 3 (or Michov) and lets built a team to contend the year after next. If Petey doesn't want to be part of it, trade him for a iings ransom, but getting a few real taleted players into the club, could persuade Petey to sign an extended contract. So we need to sink as much as possible to give us hope for the future.
  9. Who isn't satisfied that we are diving like a massive rock in the water atm... Its the best that could happen to the franchise at this stage.... as long as they don't find a way to screw it up as the usually do....
  10. I know, and you're right.... But picking OJ instead of Tkachuk (and a few others) still hurts. OJ was considered the 'safe' d pick by many, but man.... I want d and RHD in particular, but if there is a fair drop, or a 'can't miss' forward available, then I think we go with that if in the top 5-6.... after that we can go fishing, but we need to go for as close a can't miss prospect as possible if in the top of the draft. Last year was different as we had a couple of Dmen available at our draft position... Once we ger past the first 10 or so, its pretty much a crapshot anyway, so why not pick for positional needs?
  11. Please don't even joke about it... we need a home run.
  12. I would have no problem with them taking a lhd if they think he fits the bill as a hard nosed tough Stay at home Dman... by the time he is ready OEL will be on his swan song, and we need more of that type in the system. Wanted Bichsel so bad last year, but would even had settled for Pickering... I do have a fear of 'reaching' for a rhd, if we are picking top 5-6.... OJ is still an open wound. Had Benning hit on those 2 1sts we would likely have been a competetive team today....
  13. Please, please, please.... And he actually wants to play here.... Go get him....
  14. Gillis failed at drafting ( ie hiring better scouts), but I'd still say a man, who has a forte, doesn't just suddenly drop using the gift, because he becomes a leader. Yes he should perhaps trust the scouts he hired, but I'm not sure, he didn't... He wanted to see the prospects himself, and if you have an eye for a player, I think thats pretty fair... He trusted his scouts enough to take Petey?
  15. If Motte was going to make this team into a contender, they have far bigger problems...
  16. I really hope so... otherwise they should be fired the lot of them. As soon as Horvat was out the door, it was evident we were not going to do anything this year. And the team has already been drifting around under various managers for several years, so changes are needed. Imagine getting on of the top 3 on ELC contract and then a 5-7 contract for 3 years... it would be massive incentive for QH and EP... now is the time to stock up on picks and prospects... sell sell sell...
  17. If we want a rebuild to go smoothly, we need to get anything we can, while we can... one of the reasons, we have been floating around forever, was the lack of return on our former players...
  18. You don't know any of this Alf. its not like all the scouts says he should draft Petey? Any Head scout will collect the information gathered from all the scouts, and then its up to the scouts to explain, why their guy should be the chosen one... Its not as if they only hear about the top prospects 2 months prior to the draft. With regards to OJ, there was a lot of interest in him, as he was thought, to be the d-man with the highest floor... I remember CDC at the time, it was split between the folks that wanted Tkachuk and a Dman. And of the Dmen on show, OJ was thought to be the one with the highest floor... Hindsight is always great, and yes there were far better choices to be had, like Chychun, but there were others who also saw red flags with him, hence he fell all the way to Arizona. Benning was decent at drafting. Unfortunately not at anything else...
  19. If he has the ability to pick out talents, it would be odd not to use his ability. That does not mean he shouldn't trust and use his scouts, but why on earth would you suddenly take the blind passenger seat, if you can drive?
  20. I swear to god, that I worry more about them screwing this up, than anything else at the moment. If they need to learn, how to properly derend, let them learn it next season... With a bit of dealing/luck we could go into this draft with 3 1st round picks... The next 2 drafts could be franchise defining. Here's hoping.
