I know... I remember that year clearly... I was so cheesed of with the JV pick. But tbh also understood, why they drafted him as we were desperately short on some size and muscle. unfortunately he didn't grow as well as we hoped for, and drspite 1000s chances, he didn't get it... But definitely will question the 3 out of 4 fans wanted JV....

[PGT] Vancouver Canucks at Detroit Red Wings | Feb. 11, 2023

Watched the game delayed and despite the defeat, there seems to be more snarl to the game of the boys. OEL doesn't back down, and the forward were quick to support one another during scrums... Quite like what I'm seeing. Get a few more heavies on the team, and then ship out Myers. Its frustrating to see him imitate QH, only to get stripped of the puck. -

March/April will be very interesting as we meet Ducks x3, Arizona x2, Blackhaws x2, Sharks and Blues x 2.... Those 10 games will determine, mainly, whete we will be drafting. It could for once be, that we will put our selves in a prime position to strike gold. A top 6 pick (hopefully even higher) and a pick between 10-14.... This would be gold for this franchise. -

Just retain... we don't need cap space until in a years time -
Yes unfortunately ...

Spot on amigo. enough of smurfs on the D side. No disrespect on Rathbone, but he has burnt every time, he had the opportunity, defensively. We need Dmen that can defend and not the seven dwarfs type. And yes there is a better than average chance, that under the guidance of a bunch of former chamipons, players will be held accountable now, Finally riding it out with 2 back up goalie, is very yelling indeed. Hopefully Demko stays down a bit longer, as the last thing we need now, is going on a tear...

Spot on... This team was going nowhere, and to spend all the money, on what has already shown not to be good enough, wasn't really an option... Horvat leaving was always on the cards, once Miller was signed. We need to sign EP, and Kuz will also command more in a couple of years, and we have a mountain to climb defensively... Management came in without any feelings/loyalty towards any of the players, and they could see things needed to be shaken up... How it will go is anybody's guess, but at least they have started to change it around. Hopefully a lot more to come, over the next year and a bit....

This franchise was stuck in no mans land prior to Bos departure...
-
Don't understand the crying over Bo's departure... The team has had 1 decent run in 10 years, and changes are needed. Hopefully there are more to follow. We all liked Bo, and still do, but locking up lots of $ in the same old, will just keep it as the same old... Time to change the culture and playing staff.... Too bad they didn't start the sell off earlier in the season, so we could have had ourselves a better draft position. This is going to be another middle of the mesh draft, once we go on a tear and end up outside the sweepstakes. SELL, SELL, SELL.......

The deserving(?) downfall of the Vancouver Canucks

As for cap space.... Its easier to sign players to 'team friendly' contract, when you are a contending team, and then there is the tax issues... But yes, being where we are, we should never have been capped out. Poor contracts handed out... -
Forgive me, I'm tired as f band don't follow... Was just looking at the video posted, which had Panthers picking 1st OA with Montreals pick... Just the thought made me sick.

I'm a gonna throw up if Panthers and Blues get the two top picks...

And thats why I have my reservations about picking a rhd despite our obvious need for one.
-
Yeah I know. You must really be high on this year RHDs? Most people think they are good, but all with some 'ironing out' to be done. Can't say I look at prospects, or have the ability to evaluate them, so I listen to all of you good folks here on CDC, see some draft lists, and then add in organisational needs... I just worry, we end up with another dud, if we go chancing. Bearing in mind we need Cs too now Bos gone.

Exactly.... There's a reason why Turkeys don't vote for Christmas, just like you don't knowingly pull a pin out of a granade in your own home... If JR though Miller would cause frictions with Tocchet, it would make zero sense in hiring both. Cheers... Miller might not be Schenns best mate after this, but tbh this is small potato... My best mates and me argued like wild, when we were teenagers/ young men, and we are still friend to this day 40 years later. We always stood shoulder to shoulder though if anyone had a pop at any of us... I would say, if he started to fight with a team mate, its a different scenario. It used to happen, but that rarely brings anything good with it... -
I do agree, and yet not exactly the way I see it Herberts Picking Bichsel or Pickering @15 would not have been 'fishing' as much as picking a rhd @ no 5-7 this year could be.... The 2 D men both have Size, which we are in desperate need of on the back end. And by all account sounds like hockey players. (Management did have Lekkerimaki high on their list and obviously felt lucky he fell to them...) My only reasoning, (and I say this, despite me wanting us to load up on Ds), is, we simply can't gamble too much, if we get a high pick. We need it to be as 'safe' a pick as possible regardless of it being positional need or not. Top 6C are also needed, as well as 'cash', that can be used in trades for RHDs...

This @DeNiro... exactly this... It might not work, but on the other hand it might exactly work, cause Miller does often bring a spark plug with him, when its not going according to plan. There is many ways to skin a cat, and the more you know, the bester the chance of a result.
