  1. Ok sorry I was under the assumption you were thinking we could land him long term for that. If we’re talking a bridge I fully agree we could lock him in under that. Problem with a say 3 year bridge is if Brock hits 40 goals he’s going to be asking for a lot more come his next contract. Add that into what petey and Hughes could be looking for and we might run into a bit of trouble.
  2. It will be 7.135 but do people really believe Brock is going to sign long term for that. Again Keller just got more than that. Why would Brock who’s been a far more superior player up to this point take less than Keller?
  3. Exactly. That 3rd player won’t be waived until Roussel is back. Roussel cap hit is 3 million where the max we can save on that buried salary is 1.075. Which is exactly why it’s unlikely for Brock to sign long term. I’m not sure why so many are struggling to understand that. But I guess when some people @aGENT think Brock going to accept 7x7 or 6.5x6 it starts to add up why it isn’t clicking for them.
  4. 26 including Roussel who will be on IR. Roussel on IR + 2 waived player equals a 23 man roster. If you waive 3 players. 3 + Roussel equals a 22 man roster
  5. The puts us at 26 players. Down to 23 man Down to 22 man Puts us back to 23 but that cap is also brought back up giving us only 2 million is buried cap space. Roussel LTIR gives us somewhat temp relief. Thus adding another 2 million in cap space put us OVER the cap ceiling. Math is simple but clearly you struggle.
  6. The player you recall has a cap hit. There are not coming up free of charge. I already did the math clearly and spelled it out. Canucks have a hair over 7.1 million. Keller put up 47 points in 82 games less year. How is that comparable? The only way it is comparable is that both players are banking on them elevating their game from what they’ve shown there first two seasons. You really believe Brock would take less that Nylander on a 6 year deal? I’m curious to see how you determine what is reasonable. The numbers you have thrown around are not.
  7. Banking on someone claiming a player is not a strategy to be banking on. It would also be a bad use of the depth JB’s been building. People were upset with media. I explained the logic. Sure there plenty of high hope hypotheticals that people can come up with. But none of them are a guarantee and many are frankly quite unrealistic.
  8. That 25 includes Roussel. Brock is 26. Only two players waived and Roussel on IR. If you waive 3 players and put Roussel on IR that means we’re running with a 22 man roster. If if Nylander gets 6.9 for 6 years and Keller gets 7.15 for 8 years. Then Brock is going to be asking for more than we have available on a long term deal. That’s why media is saying long term doesn’t fit. Either Brock will have to take lower value or Canuck will have to make a trade, a trade that we would have very little bargaining power in.
  9. No, you can only save a MAX of 1.075 per player when you bury them in the minor. Leivo doesn’t save us 1.5, only 1,075,000. Eriksson = 1.075 leivo = 1.075 thats 2.15 total like I said.
  10. Brock needs a spot too. If we waive three players we’d only be icing a 22 man roster which is not ideal. Again the problem is when Roussel returns in a month. Canucks would be really screwed in the unlikely event of us not getting another injured. I really don’t see JB walking down that risk on really important season. And that’s likely why it’s mid September and Brock is still not signed.
  11. canucks are going to ice a 23 man roster. That means pick two players to waive. It really doesnt matter which two, the max Canuck can save from waiving the players is 2,150,000 total. That added onto our current cap available is under 7 million which is not enough to sign Brock long term.
  12. Why the hate on media all the time? The media is not always out to get Vancouver. Calgary, Toronto, and Winnipeg are all going through the exact same thing and media is calling them out too. Canucks currently have 4,158,461 in cap space with 25 players signed (not including Brock). Regardless of Brock signing, two players will need to be buried for us to hit the 23 man roster. likely one D (Biega/Fantanberg) and Schaller. Schaller will give you 1.075 in cap savings and Biega will give you 825k for a total of 2.1 million in savings. That bumps Canucks up to total space up to 6,058,461. Roussel will be on LTIR to start which will open up a roster spot for Brock to make up a 23 man roster. While Roussel being on LTIR will give Canucks somewhat temporary relief, it doesn’t help the Canucks long term. Roussel is expected to be back in November and as soon as he’s deemed healthy he must be activated. That means Canucks either need someone else to be on LTIR or another player will be waived (eriksson). So unless you’re willing to roll the dice and bank on a trade or another LTIR to happen in the first month Canucks really only have a maximum of 7,133,461 in cap space to work with. While the likely hood of an injury is high, if it doesn’t happen canucks would be forced to waive two players (eriksson + goldy?) and only go forward with 21 man roster. OR canucks would be forced to trade someone under the gun, removing any bargaining power we would have. Either way they are not situations we want to risk. Brock is not signed long term for anything under 7.5 or else it would have been done by now. That is why long term seems to be out of the question right now without some sort of extra roster movement.
  13. How do you determine he’s ready? His skill set is different than say a guy Benn so how would you determine that he’s outplayed him and deserves a spot over him. This isn’t minor hockey, a roster is built for different roles. So if you are really looking at things. OJ’s comp is edler and Hughes on the left side top 4. and sorry that’s not happening. It doesn’t do his development any good playing bottom pairing depth D. He needs ice time and confidence and canucks will already have one rookie D they will be working to fight match ups with. The only way OJ makes the team out of camp is if he is mover and above the canucks best D player in camp. Beiga and schaller aren’t even in consideration as they are getting waived regardless of Joulevi. We’re talking losing fantanberg and likely making Stecher sit in the press box. Or losing a forward like motte or goldy.....those depth pieces that become big factors in us being in or out the playoffs. All for what... So that OJ can play opening night? He’s going to play this year. Have some patiences. There is zero harm for Joulevi getting some games in Utica. Again he hasn’t played a game in 10 months, he’s going to take time to get back into game pace. Let him build so that when he does get the call up, there’s no doubt if he’s ready or not. And he can stick with the club.
  14. He was ready on one of the weakest d cores in the league last year. JB has went out and filled this team with more depth adding three UFA’s (two of which are legit NHLers) add in our superstar prospect. And that’s 4 rosters spots added where as we really only subtracted Hutton. (Schenn wouldn’t really count) training camp isn’t long enough to show a player is fully ready, that’s why junior players get the 9 games. Just look at what happened to McCann who earned his way on the team. By Christmas time is was clear he should have went back. If Canucks keep OJ over someone else and we lose that player to waivers Canucks just lost depth that we WILL need when injuries start to hit. Joulevi needs ice time. Without injuries he’s not getting more TOI than Myers, Tanev, Hughes, Edler, Stecher which means he’s getting bottom pairing depth TOI and that’s not a place you want a developing player to learn. No players has every been hindered by over cooking in Juniors. Based on what. Joulevi’s played 18 games in the AHL and missed the last 10 months. You’re making a presumption that he will be ready and that’s a lofty presumption. The goal and decision on what canucks do with OJ after training camp is with his long term development in mind, this seems to be forgotten by many.
  15. I wish. If we’re lucky we get a good snowfall for a nice white Christmas. Snow doesn’t really come till mid January and it then we typically get a nice chinook that melts it by March. Then by April it’s spring time. We do get the odd summer snow storm once a year, typically in May. But it only last for 24hr and then it is gone. That’s why most old people are snow birds. Because you save so much on cost of living throughout your life, people can afford to have two places. A nice winter retreat you live in for 4 months during the snow. Palm Springs or Scottsdale most people go to. I prefer Scottsdale. Better golfing and can always catch a hockey game for cheap
  16. Winter doesn’t start in Calgary Till mid December. Nov last year was +4 Oct was +7
  17. Last year’s average daily winter temperatures l Dec Avg -2.9 degrees Jan Avg -3.2 degrees Feb Avg -18.4 degrees Mar Avg -2.5 degrees April Avg +5.3 degrees That’s considered “a don’t leave your house winter” ?? I hate to say it but you have some pretty soft friends. Or feeding you some BS. While you’re enjoying the 6 inches per month of rain with clouds, we get to be outside enjoying snow activities…..with clear a bright sunny blue sky.. There are 3 good mountains near bye. Plenty of good skiing.
  18. Yeah no. Not how it works at all. If we ever get injured we tell the staff even if it’s minor. They are there to help. You got every type of doctor and other medical staff like massage therapy with the team, so keeping things quite is just plain stupid and could end up injuring you more long term. The only time players withhold how much pain they are in is when they don’t want to be held out of an important game. It wasn’t sore because he hadn’t injured it yet. It’s not rocket science. He got hit during a game on Nov 17 and said his knee never felt the same afterwards....and never played another game for the rest of the season. There was zero indication or reason to believe his knee was bothering him prior. The only reason it’s come up is people like you looking for excuses as to why he is slow on his pivots. So you make up crap from fantasy land without any evidence to support. Even if it is directly disputed by the player himself.
  19. He wasn’t playing with a sore knee. His knee did not bother him until he took a hit after which it didn’t feel right. Those are his very own words. Why are some people so desperate to have Joulevi succeed that they are willing to make up excuses for his flaws despite it being perfectly normal for a 22 year old D to still have flaws, he’s not and is not expected to a complete product yet. I could care less what he looks like during camp, he’s not making the team right away. Regardless of what ever fake excuses people want to make up, it has zero impact on him being ready/healthy. I mean you might as well make up a rumour that he was asked to hold back his effort since being drafted just to give other kids a head start. The problem is people need to temper their expectations. All he’s done since being drafted is prove that he’s still a decent prospect. People are so invested in him being an elite player or becoming better than tkachuk that you have people going far to the other extreme and pegging him to be the next lindstrom.... People need to take a breath... What happens if Joulevi regresses this year in the AHL? You’re going to have people jumping off a bridge not knowing how to cope. Let him play, let him develop into his own player, at his own pace.
  20. Haha man you are so desperate for excuses. Whatever you say doctor recchi.
  21. Two posts above yours confirms he was not in anyway bothered by his knee as he hadn’t hurt it yet. He injured his knee from being hit on Nov 17 and never played another game that season. /debate
  22. I’m curious as to how an injury that happened on Nov 17 affected his play in games prior? You do realize that he never played another game after injuring his knee. https://theprovince.com/sports/hockey/nhl/vancouver-canucks/canucks-prospect-olli-juolevi-done-for-the-year-after-knee-surgery
  23. The problem with pain by C.S Lewis. The shack by William P. Young. Good books on that.
  24. Because when he plays with Gio he plays on his off side. When he’s not playing with Gio he goes back the the natural left side.
