When did i say that? All i did was rebuttal that claim that "I would take a top 3 dman who plays 22 mins a night over a 2nd line winger any day of the week." And I gave an example to show how that doesn't remain true across all scenarios. i never said anything bad about Juolevi, i never even said i would take Tkachuk over Juolevi. All i said was that a broad statement that #3 D are better than 2nd line wingers isn't always the case. If Juolevi turns into Ellis, which is what I think his ceiling is, then i don't see how anyone could be upset. With that said Tkachuks biggest issue was his skating, people thought he wasn't a good enough skater to be a successful top winger in this league and he's showing already that he's able to handle it at 20.
-
The question isn't in regard to juolevi, it was is a #3 defence more valuable than a 2nd line winger. No one in there right mind would consider trading Simmonds for Alzer. I used that point as an extreme to show the range level between players that are considered 2nd line players and #3 defence based on their current team. It's far to broad of a statement to say #3 defence are more important then 2nd line players. If Juolevi turns into a Ryan Ellis #3 defence which i'm hoping he hits then he's on a completely different value scale than someone like Alzer. But at the same time Tkachuk isn't just a typical 2nd line player. He bring more to a team than just some 2nd line offensive production, we need defence, but we also need some push back. Tkachuk is currently in his second year and already at the level of an top tier second line winger. If Flames didn't have an elite top 5 LW already in their system Tkachuk would already be a top line winger. He's 18th in the league for LW's in points an he just turned 20.

“Will” say is a future tense. I’m not arguing about that. You said people would say that today.
-
Potential, sure, but the quote was "Most people would say Bo is one of the best center's." Not today they sure don't. Heck of a player but there's still another tier above him currently
-
Some day he might, but right now (or even right before he went down) he's not even close. As for the bolded, i know its Friday night but I think you need to slow down just a bit.
-
I love Bo but he's not even close to be making the top 10 centers of the league.
-
And there's a large difference between a fringe 2nd liner and a top 2nd liner/boarder line first liner. Tkachuk isn't just a winger he's do it everything winger that bring a lot more value than just points. Would you trade Alzner for Simmonds?

You can’t re-acquire a player you retained salary on until 365 has passed.

Most people would say horvat is a #2 center at best. I would take horvat over a #3 d and most #2 d every day of the week.

Hague. Samberg, Ferraro,Lindstrom and salo all went in between them. All are looking good. Samberg looked decent at the WJC. I’m surprise Ferraro didn’t make Canada. He has been just as impressive at umass as his team mate makar. And Walsh went in the third round looks really good but he is playing along side of fox who is super talented. I’m glad we got lind and gadj although I was hopping timmis would fall to us.

Nope just reality. Once a season is over players are on the first flight out of the city. Most vets throw in the towel a month before the season is over. The only players trying are the fringe ones that are trying to have a good impression to make the team the next year. You think a player that has been playing through an injury is going to want to give his all for something he has no control over. The players don’t even know who the team is scouting or if they will keep/trade the pick. Players don’t get paid for extra games so there is zero incentive for them to care. If your boss asked you to stay and work overtime without pay for the good of the company you’d tell him to jump in the lake. It would be less competitive than the all star game.
-
Nope, I’m telling they don’t. Very few Players are loyal to the team. Most of themnwont even be here in 2-4 year. Why would anyone block a shot or be willing to take a hit and risk there career. If players cared. Why dont they purposely tank in reg season today. Players care about there own career. Not the franchises.
-
Except players don’t care. You really think baertschi would put an effort in so that Canucks can potentially draft his replacement. Players don’t care. They have no incentive to care. Why risk getting a injury for something that brings them absolutely nothing. They all are upset about a bad season (missing the playoffs) the last thing they want to do is play another maningless game.
-
So tell me what players are going to try? Why would a player like baertschi or Hutton try. What’s in it for them. The better the pick the higher the chance they get knocked down the depth chart the next year. Players dont care about draft picks. They have no incentive to. It would be as bad of quality as the allstar game. And because of that any idea to play extra hockey for draft position will never work.
-
Player have zero interest in playing those meaningless games. Why would a pending ufa care about helping a team get a better draft pick? Why would fringe nhler care about helping a team get a new player, who’s like going to take his roster spot? Most players are already checked out and have there summer vacations planned. There’s nothing in it for them.

NHL wise he hasn’t been great but He was named AHL rookie of the month in nov and been taring up that league. He’s only in his first year of AHL hockey and has 39 points in 25 games. That’s extremely impressive. i agree that pettersson has been more impressive. But it’s not like strome is that disappointing. If he were a Canuck pick we’d be thrilled about that out put. Heck we’ve got people thinking goldy is a future top 6 lock despite being a year older and putting up less offense.
-
And making 900k next year vs making nothing sure doesn’t hurt either.

You can chase your own tail. I’m just calling you out on your BS. You do nothing but make fun of other people’s opinions who differ from yours only to use your own opinion as a rebuttal. Even when people explain it’s just their point of view, you reply with your view but state it as a fact. Its very troll worthy.
-
That's your opinion, IBatch has a different one, I think he rounds into a Ryan Ellis mold before he's 25. No one is right or wrong, we all just have our own opinions and nothing but assumptions to back them up. Laughing at someone who is simply just stating an opinion only to follow it up with yours doesn't prove anything. Come on JR. that's not the way to have a discussion.
-
From my opinion I just want them to be good hockey players. I would gladly welcome them if the help us win a cup. Ive played with guys I couldn’t stand but it didn’t mean I was going to let that blind my appreciation for their skill set. All that has to mean is I’m not getting there jersey. But I will still cheer and be happy for when they score. And I think this team is missing a little cockiness that can back it up.

Yep, you’d have to wonder what role a player like Edler would fill on the bolts left side. If Edler is replacing Coburn, that means Edler would be taking on the 66% dzone starts and the shutdown role that Coburn currently plays for the Bolts. Is Edler capable of playing that type of role well? Would he be an upgrade as a shutdown D over Coburn? Potentially but would they pay that type of cost for a small of upgrade, probably not. We also know that he wouldn’t be an upgrade offensively over Hedman or Sergachev, in 39 games Sergachev has 26 points, Elder has only cracked 26 points once in the last 6 seasons, so it’s not like he’s an upgrade on the left side. On the right side they have Stralman, Dotchin, Girdardi and Sustr. Sustr and Dotchin have been rotating but that is the one area they could use an upgrade on, for a playoff run. Long term Dotchin looks like he will be a top 4 D and they have Foote on the way. So really if they are looking for an upgrade for a playoff run, it would be found on the right side. The only way they’d move Foote is if the player in return they get back is young enough to make Foote’s skillset not needed in the future. Edler is 1 year and a bit away from UFA and he’s been on the decline for the last few years, he’s not the type of guy you trade you’re top D prospect for. They’d likely trade away picks before they’d consider moving him.

That true someone has to take those minutes and be successful at them to get the talented players more offensive minutes. But what is that value of a player like that?
-
Yep, Sedin broken rib, Burrows broken Jaw, Santo separated shoulder, Tanev broken thumb, Luongo injured twice then traded forcing us to play a rookie goalie as a number 1. We were a top 10 team in the league at the halfway mark. We just came off the best December record ever in franchise history, but ultimately a condensed schedule and becoming injury riddled with some unlucky plays didn't help him out at all. We were forced to play Schroeder, Lain, Welsh, Dalpe, Jensen, Corrado, and stanton. Talk about depth, lol. If Gillis hadn't been fired, i bet torts would have been around for another year. He was hired to change the culture from a team that was showing up unmotivated, and he did it to the extreme. He's not a long term coach as people tend to shut out the noise after a while but he's shown that he can be an effective guy to getting lots out of his players. Stars tend to hate him.

Why just for team Canada? It doesn't help that we haven't really picked much in the second round either. In the last 14 years (not including this year) we've only drafted 6 times in the 2nd round. 4 out of the 6 were Canadian, the two picks that weren't Canadian, Demko and Rodin did play in the WJC, and were impactful, Rodin put up 10 points in 6 games.
