Two weeks later after Yak got off to a hot start you blew prematurely and replied a comment of mine that you already replied to. Clearly that was you attempting a rhetorical question. but since then Teravainen has 19 points in 19 games and nail is at 9 points in 19 games. Now you play dumb and pretend discussion was never about comparison of the two players. Give it up, you're making a fool out of yourself, maybe this will teach you not to jump to a conclusion about player development after playing 6 games. Now enough with this discussion, if you want to continue this charade of being deliberately obtuse you can PM, but this is the Jake Virtanen thread, try to stay on topic.
-
Except you didn’t ask with the intention of looking for an answer. I had already answered that in my reply that you were responding too. You waited for yak to get off to a hot start to imply he was further ahead and since Tera has made you look dumb. Back pedal away
-
Sarcastic hence the caps. Your reply was to my response the showed why Tera is ahead of yak something you disagreed with. You posted it as soon as yak got off to a hot start and since you’ve done nothing but backpedal.
-
You haven’t done anything. You’ve defended Robb’s claim. Change the parameters and are trying to conclude that yak is further ahead of Tera which is utterly insane
-
What on earth are you taking about. The discussion has to do with which player is currently further ahead in there development. Yak vs Tera. Yes math is math but the hard part is understanding what the numbers mean and putting them into a context that makes sense and provides an accurate picture. Something you are unable to do.
-
The discussion isn’t if both our developing. It’s who is farther ahead in development. That started with robb stating it was based off total games played. Which failed then, You stated it was based on g/pg again that idea failed and you moved on to p/pg. and when yak had a decent start you pressed the conclusion button early thinking you won. Now your back pedaling.
-
No it wasn't, you brought it p/gp after getting schooled and needed to change the topic. Me and Robb were having a discussion about Jake playing the 12th most games among his 1st round counterparts, he thought it was meaningful, I used the yak and teravainen example to debunk that stupid theory, after yak got off to a hot start you jumped the gun prematurely and since then teravainen has make you look dumb. Just give it up, and move on. Back to Jake Virtanen.
-
Yeah it is quite funny, your conclusion was a bit premature after Yak had a strong start, since then Yak has cooled off and Teravainen is a point a game player, just proves my point even further. Games played means zero about a players development. Jake may have played 12th most games in the first round of his draft year, but it sure has zero to do with Jake being the more developed than the players that have played less than him.

I think his IQ is fine, he's shows at times to be able to read the ice really well and make the smart play, other times he looks rushed. If he can get to a consistent play we'd have a pretty good D on our hands. And if I wasn't too lazy I could cherry pick good visual examples of what we see on a nightly basis from cherry picking games.
-
Two things, I thought the discussion was about Guddy being able to improve. If the talk is about what he could become in a year or two, why are you posting about his play today. I could easily find high lighted clips of guddys good play, but cherry picking a few instances doesn't really do much good to the overall conversation, as you acknowledged.
-
I'm not saying playing over two minutes makes you an impact D player, but you sure aren't a impact D when you are used under that 20 minute mark. That's your opinion, i think he does have decent IQ and defensive awareness, he's shown it at times, he just needs to show it more on a consistent basis. Ha as funny as that sounds, it's just untrue. Teams don't take a 3rd overall pick on someone based on their looks, they look at skillsets, lots of player do end up as bust and that's typically because they can't find away to put it all together, not because they didn't have the natural ability I'll i see is excuses, these are comparable players making comparable money. Eriksson's deal is bad due to the signing bonuses we gave him making him buy out proof, it's bad because of the NMC/NTC, it's bad because of the term. We put too much risk into a player without any fall back options. Guddy at 4-5 with no restrictions and shorter term is much more manageable.
-
Sure they do, you aren't a impact D player if you are averaging under 20 minutes. You're really confusing the point you are trying to make. Players do develop later in their careers, Maturity isn't something based on NHL games played it's subjective on the person and circumstances. A new coach, a new team, different uses all can effect a persons development. The tools are all there with gudbranson, that's why he was drafted 3rd overall, it's not like people are expecting him to put up 50 points, but he can become an effective shut down defence. Orpik, Hjalmarsson, Chara, Seidenberg our other D's that were late developers. He's right in line with Alzner, kulikov, and Methot who are all signed in the 4-5 million range.
-
Nope, Tanev was a bottom pairing D until he was 24. Both players finally hit the 20 minute average at the age of 24, the only difference is Guddy in his 25 year got injured and missed 52 games.
-
Breaking out doesn't have to mean he's going to all of the sudden become and offensive force. He's still young and can continue developing he defensive game. I look at a guy like Tanev who over the last 2 years is really starting to get noticed as one of the leagues best shutdown guys.

where is @chilliwiggins

You're probably right about the team wanting some vets but we are putting ourselfs into a bit of a pickle. Goldy needs to clear waivers next year and he's showcasing he has some high end skill. So unless he regresses this year and we think we can sneak him through waivers, he's likely playing in the NHL next year. If Gaudette is ready (and he's on pace to follow the same steps as Brock) it will be hard to send him back. Same can be said with Pettersson. Maybe we see some trades that open up room and allow us to take on vet but. If the kids are ready, they are ready, so i wouldn't be against it. And if you think about it, some of the other players may not be vets but they aren't that young anymore. This time next year Baertschi, Granlund, Stecher and Hutton are 25, Sutter, Tanev and gagner will be 29, Guddy will be 27. Horvat will be 23 (at 23 toews already was the captain, won a cup, goal medal and a conn smythe). So i'm not sure how important it will be to have that "vet" leadership. the 2008-09 hawks come to mind, they had 4 rookies on that roster and only 3 players, that played more than 25 games, were over the age of 29 and two of those players were goalies. Just for giggles since I needed to kill the last half hour of work, i thought I would compare roster ages. Hawks roster in 2008-09 (players that played over 20 games) Players 25 and under- Toews(20), Kane(20), Bolland(22), Barker(22), Seabrook(23), Ladd(23), Byfuglien(23), Wisniewski(24), Keith(25), Eager(25), Johnson(25) Rookies -Hjalmarsson, Versteeg, Brouwer, Fraser Players over 26-29 -Burish(26), Havlat(27), Sharp(27), Walker(28), Campbell(29), Players over 30 -Adams(31), Huet(33), Khabibulin(36) Canucks possible roster next year Players 25 and under -Baertschi(25), Granlund(25), Pouliot(25), Hutton(25), Stecher(24), Horvat(23), Virtanen(22), Boeser(21) Rookies -Gaudette, Pettersson, Goldobin Players over 26-29 - Tanev(29), Gagner(29), Sutter(29), Markstrom(28), Del Zotto(28), Nilsson(28), Burmistrov(27), Gudbranson(27), Rodin(27) Players over 30 - Eriksson(33), Dorsett(32), Edler(32)

Thanks, Reijo Ruotsalainen was what....around 27 years ago? It's still early but to have two young D in that point pace range during the same year..... well finnish hockey has to be really happy about that.
-
Is Hieskanen on pace to break the record?
-
Yes that makes sense and it does remove some of the scare,. But still very skeptical on whether that makes him "quite tradeable". It will all come down to his play. We couldn't move Higgins for 2.5 cap (with offering to retain cap) in his final year. At some point teams just simply don't value aged players, no matter how cheap their cap is. Didn't you hear it has been merged into Louis eriksson thread.
-
Eriksson has a total salary paid out is $8 million in his final two years. 4 million per year. 2020-21 – Salary: $1MM, Bonus: $3MM = $4MM 2021-22 – Salary: $3MM, Bonus: $1MM = $4MM

Enlighten us.
-
Yep and I also remember JB saying we'd possibly trade down if we won the lottery, but the point remain. We finished 29th overall and ended reaping the benefits because of it.
-
Had we not finished 2nd worst we'd not have been able to draft him with the 5th overall.
-
Ah I see. Av's fans are as bad as us when it comes to overvaluing their players. Sakic might be proven himself to be the worst at that. I'm not against possibility of trading Juolevi, it just would have to be the right package that would make sense to us in our rebuild.
