No one would want another Naslund situation. Either way, up to the team or not, there's is as much evidence that they will be able here next year as there is evidence that they wont be. So it's rather pointless for some to use that they wont be here as a selling point.

Haha sure lets send Baertschi , Horvat, Eriksson, Sutter, Granlund and Rodin to the AHL. See how that works.. Try your math again. 1... & 2 players are AHL eligible. That means out of the 8 players i listed looking for pp #2 ice team we're down to 6 competing for 3 spots. It's really not that hard to understand. And that's only this year. Next year we have a bunch more prospect looking for ice time. Imagine what it will be like in 3 years from now.

Good thing Willie isn't a coach in the NHL anymore. Green our current head coach had no problem trusting Goldobin.

And then if that point comes you make a decision. But you don't make commitments based on rainbows and unicorns. If hank doesn't resign, guess what, we have a whole other crop of UFA to look at, with an extra chunk of $. Tangents? What purpose did stating canucks made the cup finals with hank playing sheltered minutes have to do with anything? You stated it as a response to what gagner brings that hank doesn't? What value does it bring? Does it bring anything relevant to the conversation? This is why discussing with you is like talking to a child. You can't stay on point, occasionally will through out something random but when i call you out on it. you back away and give emoji's That's because you don't understand how ice time works. You can't figure out that there are only so many pp minutes to go around. In J.R's world everything works out but sadly you don't take anything factual into consideration. Like if canucks only average 4:35 minutes of power play time per game and only 3 forwards on the ice at once, where does gagner's needed 2:39 come into consideration just for fun put him with the twins at 2:30 per game, that leave Baertschi , Horvat, Eriksson, Sutter, Granlund and potentially Goldy, Rodin, Boeser all fighting for those final 3 spots. hmmm something's not adding up....oh yeah it's J.R's math skills.

Numerous interviews hank has said he body feels great and could see him self signing an extension if the canucks felt the same.

Who say's Hank wont return? All indications are they will be back. Gagner isn't a contingency plan and Gagner can only have wet dreams about putting up 100+ point season. So stating canucks got the finals giving hank sheltered minutes is moot. A team doesn't have the ability to shelter 1/4 of your roster. We are a team that transitioning into younger players. These younger players are the ones that need to be eased in, If were going to bring in anyone it's players that can handle the hard ice time so that the kids don't thrown to the wolves. It is a problem if you have a player getting 3-4 mill a year locked up for another 3 years. It's a waste of cap and roster space. The reason Baer could get traded is because it would open up space for our young players knocking at the door All gagner does is take up that space. Makes zero sense. We should not sign any player for more than a 2 year stop gap, preferable one year.
-
And when Hank is still around for another 2 years after this year what's the rush?, Either way if Hank does retire, this team will need a 2c stop gap, not a 4c stop gap that players sheltered offensive minutes. He doesn't bring anything this team doesn't already have. If Granlund or Baertschi played on a PP unit with Werenski/Jones on the back end and Jenner/Hartnell in front. they'd also have 50 point season last year. Sedin, sedin, Horvat, Baerschi, Granlund, Eriksson fill out the top 6 for the PP units. Add in Boeser, Goldy, Sutter, and even Rodin. I don't see where gagner's sheltered ice time comes from or who gets demoted in lieu of. I'd radther fill the need from all the young potential we have within than signing a one dimensional to a 4 year $3+ million contract. Yuck. No, i just plan things out better....
-
I don't think he was saying he will play in the bottom six. I think he stated "bottom line" in the context more as an exclamation point.
-
We do? We have zero need for Gagner. His type of skill set is not a need, not for 3-4 years. Our biggest strength in our young players pool is that type of player. Gagner as a 1 year stop gap to not rush the kids...Sure that could work. 3-4 years is ludicrous... You're getting too focus on numbers and forgetting context. Ask your self Do you think us missing a player like gagner is the reason our PP sucks? Or is there a bigger issue around the PP....like say a PMD?......or a accurate Right handed shot? What does Gagner bring that Hank doesn't? I'd rather extend Hank for a few more years that count on gagner.
-
Gagner isn't a great center. In CBJ he was able to take a few draws but quickly transitioned back the wing since he is poor defensively. Torts utilized him well, he knew his strengths and weaknesses and only used him to his strengths. With all the rookies we will be bringing into the line up the last thing we need is another players you have to shelter. and that's if hank retires. All indications it sounds like they will be back for a couple more years
-
Eww.... Why do we want that? by this time next year all he will be doing is taking up power play time from one of are young kids.
-
I think Goldy is most NHL ready and will make the team out of camp In the last two years he's produced.. .73pgg in 2015-16 .91pgg in 2016-17 I think him getting a sniff with Green last year also helped his chances. Brock might do a stecher and be the first call up with an injury. We will have to see how training camp goes. and if any UFA gets signed

There are some effective passengers. I'd call Kessel, Vbrata & Vanek some of the best passengers. but with that said, a complimentary player is a far cry from the game changing power forward we thought were getting when we drafted him 6th overall
-
The argument that is used about Jake being a more effective NHLer than AHLer is that Jake doesn’t have the right line mates to play with in the AHL to produce offense. He’s a scorer and he needs a play maker to get him the puck. While this is true, it does point out to the fact that he’s not a play driver. He’s not the type of guy to take the team on his back and get things done, he’s a passenger. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, there are lots of successful/ effective passengers in the NHL and they can become an important piece to a team. Every team needs their complementary players and at this point we hope that is what Jake can become.
-
Yeah I could see the argument for +2 season after draft.. I get that line of thinking but in the end, it usually means a team forces players to play in the NHL. The CHL lost Jake and Jared regardless. I'm also of the opinion that the keeping those players back in the CHL doesn't mean a better product. Moving players opens up room for other kids to grow into. In the end teams will end up churning out more NHL talent, which is a huge draw for bringing in kid to play in that league. Robert Thomas is the perfect example, Had Marner, Tkachuk stayed back to play, he wouldn't have got the same opportunity to grow in his draft year like he did. I agree, maybe it's not every player is eligible, maybe only players who are draft +2 years, and maybe a team is only allowed 1 player every two years that they can grant this status for. For the most part that would leave it up to teams only taking the players that are fringe NHL talent rather then poaching all the draft picks.

With how strong NCAA development has come, it makes you wonder why players don't lean towards that route more often. It gives the players a lot more options. If I remember correctly 11 players in the first round of the 2016 draft went to the NCAA post draft. and out of those 11, 6 of the players have already jumped up to the AHL/NHL, That's less than one year post draft and over half of them are in the pro's. 9 players in the first two rounds of 2015 draft went to the NCAA post draft. and 8 have turned pro and 5/9 have already completed a full year in the AHL/NHL. Brock, White, Greenway, Karlsson and are the only ones with less than 60 pro games. While a player like Roslovic was able to get a full season in the AHL 2 years post draft, a player like Jake would have to be back in the CHL. it's stupid.
-
The CHL rule is dumb. Each club should be able to exercise the right for atl east one player every two years to go into the AHL It's not like the CHL benefits from teams forcing kids to play in situations they shouldn't be in. Either the way they lose the talent. but in the end all it does it hurt the kid and the team, which is not good for hockey.

2017 NHL Draft - Chicago, Illinois June 23-24 2017
ForsbergTheGreat replied to hyper00's topic in Prospects / Farm Team
Not as weak stating “If Detroit's scouting department passed on Vilardi, it was for a reason” The wings drafted has been extremely poor, the reason they are in the same position as the canucks are is because there drafting has been as bad as canucks. They went too many years missing out on player and were not able to transition. Times have changed, it's not as easy as having the only scout in a zone anymore, it's far more easier to scout players all over the world now and because of this wings don't hold the same advantage as they once did. -

it has far less to do with counting chickens and more to do with proving that Detroit does not set the scouting bar any more. Their opinion means a loss less than it once used to. Detroit from 2007-2017 3112 man games (12 different players who’ve played 100+ games) Compare that to the Ducks 2007-2017 4719 man games (18 different players who’ve played 100+ games) Or the Predators 2007-2017 4233 man games (14 different players who’ve played 100+ games) Or the Kings 2007-2017 5860 man games (17 different players who’ve played 100+ games) Or the Bolts 2007-2017 4530 man games (15 different players who’ve played 100+ games) Things have changed since they were able to get gems (Fransen, Datyzuk, Zetterberg, Lindstrom) in the later rounds. I would say the wings aren't even close to being the best drafting team in the league and there for, stating “If Detroit's scouting department passed on Vilardi, it was for a reason” really doesn’t mean a lot. The wings are not perfect when it comes to drafting. Kopitar, Ellis, Forsberg, Carter all come to mind with 11th overall picks, it won’t surprise me to see Vilardi elite tier with those players. -
2017 NHL Draft - Chicago, Illinois June 23-24 2017
ForsbergTheGreat replied to hyper00's topic in Prospects / Farm Team
Detroit’s not all it’s cracked up to be anymore. They got lucky findings some later round Gems in the past. In the last 5 years Larkin and Mantha are the only two really players to come out of their system. Since JB took over as GM Canucks have been more successful at finding NHL talent. For example (all options were within 5 selections) They took Cholowski instead of taking Chychrun/Fabbro/Steel Frk over Sissons/Severson/Shore Jurco over Jenner/Saad And Ouellet and Sproul over Kucherov/Trocheck Sheahan over Hayes/Kuznetsov/Nelson And Ferraro over O’Reilly Yes every team has these errors but stating that “If Detroit's scouting department passed on Vilardi, it was for a reason.“ really holds very little value since DET hasn’t been that good for a while now. -

For d we should be taking Timmons, Walsh. Ferraro.i would love Walsh just to watch him develop into a better offensive threat than makar -
Ahh well hopefully soon, they can make that jump together.
