  2. No that's just people getting sucked in on the player hype, every year it's the same thing. "all hands on deck, trade any available assets to get another top 10 pick".
  3. Actually they probably will only be top 10. You still got Veleno, Brady Tkachuk, Svechnikov, will also be in the running for top 5, with a sprinkle Khovanov, Woo, McIsaac. Tanev to a bubble playoff team just increases our odds at another lotto pick, we just watched the 19th placed team win the 2nd overall pick.
  4. As soon as he's mentions what the other teams are currently doing it becomes a reactionary statement. There style is determining the type of team he wants. When picking in the top 10 needs to be focuses on taking the player that will bring the most value to the team, which investment is the most sound for ROI on a 5th overall pick. not which player looks to fill a future hole. JB took Jake based on reaction and passed on skill, 3 years later he's now in need of skill, one of those players he passed on sure would have looked good right now. JB also didn't know that he would have had the chance to draft another top meat and potatoes type guy two years post 2014. But that's the point, i'm trying to make. Why make the core of your pick based on what you feel fills a hole, when for all we know next year there will have been better options, meanwhile the guy's we ignore turn into players this team ends up needing anyway.
  5. In 2014 he said something very similar. Something along the lines that. "If you look at our division, it's big and tough and we need size" and then admitted that's why he didn't even consider taking skill. Maybe it's best that we don't worry about being a reactionary team since the league and style of constantly changing. Plenty of players in today's game are finding success despite not being the fleetest of foot.
  6. Yeah your probably right, they are wildcards since any of them could got to one of the two teams ahead of us. Tanev for Liljegren + Raddysh/Koekkeok would suffice in my opinion. we need to luck out with the lotto, we're long overdue. if we win Dahlin, I would forgive Bettmen forever..
  7. I'd be ok with liljegren...... as "part" of a package in a tanev trade
  8. Yeah he's for sure a gen-talent on the back end.. And he just turned 17 in april, he's a 2000 baby. and some how Svechnikov is in the running for that top pick, kid looks sick too, he put up the same ppg as Mittelstadt did in the USHL this year despite being a full 16 months younger. And he did it consistently for 48 games this year where casey only did it for 24 games. That just shows how good next years draft will be.
  9. Considering they didn't even interview Liljegren, and Hieksanen isn't exactly the type of player that fits the need, it sounds like he's leaning towards Makar. Sad sad day in canucks land.
  10. Yes I know this is the 2017 draft, but people seem to respond better to highlights. Hughes Dahlin Merkley Remember if you're comparing them to Makar, these kids doing this against stronger comp, while being over a full year younger (merkley is almost two years younger). Sorry for derailing the 2017 draft with 2018 players.... Back to the 2017 draft. Center this year (vilardi, Glass, Mittel, Pettersson), one of these D next....
  11. Why not keep him as the perfect trading asset for next years draft. Next year has 4 players that will be better ppqb than anyone likely taken in this draft. Hughes, Merkley, Dahlin, Boqvist
  12. No it's not, it's not rough league. There would have been likely less than 15 players in the entire league under the age of 17. Each team "might" have one full time player at 16. For example Brooks only had 1 player that was 16 or under who played over 10 games. And on top of that it's funny you bring up age since the range in age in the league Pettersson played in is far greater. Heck on his team alone he was the youngest at 17 and the oldest player on his team was 30.
  13. I think it was pretty clear that if Dubois was available at 5 they were going to take him.
  14. Probably not a good idea to try and project out that far. So many things change year to year. Some players never reach their ceilings, some go beyond expectations. Just think about how much are D core has changed in the last year. We went from Hutton, Pedan, Subban, and Brisebois being our projected future to adding Juolevi, Stecher, and Gudbranson, with a sprinkle of Tryamkin. No one on Jan 1st, 2016 could have predicted that. As of today the only lock we have is Horvat. other than that we have a group of players that all have a chance to be in the top 6, but realistically only a few will be hear 3+ years from now.
  15. Chekhovich ripped up the U18. He will is the perfect definition of boom or bust, but I think he could be had with our 3rd round pick
  16. He definitely is top 6 or bust, but in his young career he's proven more at higher levels which reduce his risk.. There is the risk that he could stay in the NCAA, but that's not just specific to Minni born players, The only minni player I can think that did that was Wheeler, who didn't sign with the wild but instead with the bruins.. Makar is just as much of a risk, Schultz is canadian and decided to do that same. But it's also way less likely that first round picks play a full 4 years in the NCAA, most join the NHL after one year. Last year for example had 6 of the 10 NCAA players drafted in the first make the jump to pro less than a year after their draft. I don't doubt his skating is elite. But that's not what sets players apart in this draft. Plenty of players are on par for his skating ability and are ranked much lower. What concerns me is how his IQ will translate when he has less time and space to make decisions. We've seen countless amounts players who appear elite in lower leagues struggle when competition level increase, some are able to keep up, but plenty falter....
  17. 106 points last year.... Yes i would say it worked out pretty good... Yeah one will be gone, likely one of the left side ones since that's where they have the most depth., likely brodin depending on the offers they are rumoured to be getting.
  18. And the wild will since they have Suter, Spurgeon, Dumba, Scandella and Brodin...
  19. Definitely under as well. Although he's likely is a dup account from someone that was already banned, so he will be back. With regards to your tiers I think they are pretty solid, i would probably switch Makar and Casey, since you did say it's based on risk to reach their potential. I would say a player that ripped up the USHL and the U18 has less risk, even if they can't do a pull up and Makar is the defensive version of Petterson in terms of hoping pure skill will translate.
  20. No it's stupid to compare an Alberta Junior A player, to a two time Norris winning D, one of the best D in the modern era's. They said he was a like a "Swedish Rafalski", not the next Bobby Orr. People are already placing expectations on him with the belief that he can become elite, it just setting him up and the fan base that drafts him up for failure. It would be like Might as well start stating what all the players will become Vilardi will be the next Forsberg Glass will be the next Toews Mittelstadt will be the next Seguin Liljegren will be the next doughty Odds our these players never reach those level. sure theres a small possibility but it's not something to set your sites on.
