They remain the Rain City Bitch Pigeons
-
It will all be situational of course, but to me it would have to be pretty extreme circumstances (like in an elimination game) for me to actually be upset at one of our players for crossing a line. Even then, it'll depend. That's just me personally though... All I know is, clean hockey doesn't win in the playoffs.
-
Yeah that's fair, can't disagree with that when it's an elimination game, but outside of that I'm fine with some nastiness and physicality.
-
I agree with most of your post except the bolded part. He's fine. He doesn't need to harness anything. I want him to keep playing on the edge and it's fine if he crosses it every now and again. Marchand isn't an effective player just purely based on his skill. We don't need a team of neutered goody two-shoes, we need a team with bite and physicality and as a result they will cross some lines every now and again and that's ok. It's not the end of the world if they take penalties/suspensions every now and again. EDIT: In the interest of honesty, I can't remember what he did in the WJC to get him booted out of the game for Sweden, nor do I really care. As long as he didn't swing his stick at someone's head, I'm fine with it.

Cheers thanks for that. I'll admit I haven't seen him play at all aside from a couple of highlight vids on Youtube. This was a little more telling. Here are my findings, and take them with a HUGE grain of salt because they're based on ONE 5m30s video. BUT here goes nothing: - Good motor on him, battles hard and keeps his head on a swivel. Decently active stick although I think he tries to get his body in the way more than leveraging his reach. That can be fixed with some coaching. Not that it's a huge issue to begin with. Tries to find good positioning defensively and will get in the lane to block shots. Always something you like to see in a high pick. - High compete level. Tries to find open ice, or engage in battles whenever possible. He does occasionally float but nothing noteworthy, and typically doesn't put himself or his teammates in a bad position as a result of it. - Isn't an effortless speedster, although I wouldn't say he's a bad skater, but a bit of an awkward skater. I'd say he's ever-so-slightly below average in the NHL, but not something I'm remotely concerned about. Just needs to clean up his stride and work a little on first 2 steps and he should be more than fine. - Puck hound. Good forecheck because of his tenacity and his motor, with the potential to be a great forechecker if he improves his skating. Smaller ice surface will serve him well. I really like that part of his game. Dog on a bone type. - Not a blazing wrist shot, although not terrible. Not flashy, and not the smoothest stick handler so I don't think he'll be Datsyuk-ing too many NHLers. Decent vision, but I wouldn't call him the second coming of Henrik. He'll usually make a good pass to keep possession. All that said, I imagine he'll be doing most of his scoring from within 30 feet of the net, and his game translates well for the NHL. I think he'll actually be a better NHLer than KHLer. - I expect he'll be a good playoff performer for us. He's kind of a more physically equipped Alex Burrows, and the following bullet point drives that home. - My favourite part about him: it's a 6 nothing blowout and his team had a comfortable lead since the first period, but with 30 seconds left in the game he was still back checking hard and trying to block a shot. That's pretty remarkable, and something you absolutely LOVE to see. Speaks volumes to the kind of teammate he is, as well as his compete level. Remarkable is putting it mildly. - Overall, I really like his 2way, in-your-face, nothing-will-come-easy style of play. It seems like this kid is a good leader on and off the ice. I wouldn't be surprised if he wears an A for us after he's established himself. IMO he might project to be a good top 6 winger in the 45-60 point range over 82 games (depending on the linemates he plays with). Grain of salt. I'm super happy with the pick and absolutely ecstatic to have this kid on the roster in 1.5 years. I think he'll win some big games for us in his career. Seems like a big game player. His style of play and body language seem to suggest that. One last time, take all of that with a BIG ol' spoonful of salt because it's based on a 5m30s video. I really shouldn't even be posting this, but I have a lot of time on my hands and wanted to jot down my thoughts.

Which teams win the play-ins? (poll/discussion)
Bissurnette replied to J.I.A.H.N's topic in General Hockey Discussion
- I took the Habs over Pitts - Just something about Price and Weber although I can certainly see it going the other way (in a lopsided series) - Florida & Rangers for the same reason - they have young guns that won't need that much time to get their legs going. The teams they're playing against usually follow a more structured system so I think it will take them a while to re-learn all the details in their systems, and that's time they don't have when they jump into a 5 game series right away. - Toronto Columbus - complete toss up for me. CBJ will probably play Toronto the same way they played Tampa last year, but Toronto will also probably see that coming and may have some coaching adjustments to address it. Although Tampa was a MUCH better team last year than Toronto is this year. I'm giving the edge to CBJ but obviously anything can happen. - Edmonton over Chicago - McDavid/Draisaitl. Nuff said. - Arizona over Nashville - Arizona is younger and they have an x factor in Hall that can really take over a series (same logic as my Florida Rangers picks). - Vancouver. Honestly it's a toss up and I'm just being a homer hoping Canucks will take it. - Winnipeg over Calgary - Just a feeling. Plus Monahan and Gaudreau have always "struggled" in the playoffs and I don't see that changing against a big team in Winnipeg. Plus Winnipeg have Laine, Scheifele and a significant edge between the pipes imo. -
[Report] Canucks to part ways with Judd Bracket
Bissurnette replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
Thanks to Judd for his long and much appreciated service. There is no doubt that he had a huge role in the scouting department's improvement and I'm sure he'll land on his feet anywhere he goes. He was a part time scout, and JB identified him and gave him a much larger role which he did well with. He was given direction from the top and he ran with it. He's done a tremendous job and hope he finds what he's looking for, wish him the best of luck. Let's see how the next few drafts go before setting the world on fire.- 583 replies

[Report] Canucks to part ways with Judd Bracket
Bissurnette replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
You're being ridiculous and factually incorrect on that last point. Ron Delorme was the one who put Petey on the map. How TF do you know that JB was hell bent on Glass and had to be talked into picking Petey by Brackett? JB is on record giving credit to Delorme for being a loud voice in the room and putting Petey on the map (see link below). So I have no idea where you made up that narrative about Glass, and Brackett fighting tooth and nail for Petey. Let me guess, some media guy tweeted about it as if they're in the room when the amateur scouting meetings were taking place? Where we might miss Judd is in the later rounds. That's where amateur scouting truly comes in. But we'll see how that goes over the next few years. You don't know sh*t about the extent of anyone's involvement in scouting so stop pretending. None of us know. Go for a walk, take a deep breath and cool down. You're not doing anyone any service by spreading made up narratives without a shred of evidence. https://theprovince.com/sports/hockey/nhl/vancouver-canucks/ben-kuzma-petterssons-smarts-skill-and-will-became-perfect-package-for-canucks- 583 replies

Should the NHL allow clubs to incorporate player/team options into contracts?

I guess it would all depend on whether it was something both the players and the teams want. Contracts with options used to exist before the cap era. There must be a reason why they dropped them.

Sounds like too many lawyers will be getting involved for the pay-checks and not the love of the game.

Listen if you want to blow up his email and see how far that gets you be my guest. But if you think emailing him is going to change the way the league is run, you might be in for a surprise. It's just wasted energy.

It was 10 years ago, and honestly if you're still bringing the Aaron Rome suspension as if him playing would have had any effect on the outcome of the series... What happened happened, and it happened 10 years ago. Let's move on shall we? They won the cup, nothing is going to change that or take it back. Next time maybe we can be the bullies and take the cup home instead.
-
Stop it. That's why Canucks fans are the most hated in the NHL. Ashamed to say even more than Toronto. TORONTO. It was 10 years ago, and the Bruins played playoff hockey. Nobody should be surprised that the whistles were put away, that's literally what happens every year. They were better equipped to handle the rigor of the post-season and they won. Admit defeat, learn from it and move on. Chicago had a huge team in 2010 when they won it. LAK bullied their way to the cup the year after, then again in 2014. STL bullied their way to the cup last year. 2way physical hockey is what wins in the playoffs. Build the team accordingly, which I'm happy to say is what we're doing here.
-
Nobody knows the extent of anyone's role on the draft floor until we see what how drafting goes over the next 2 or 3 years. Assuming JB is still here. Which I hope he is. That said, if the choice is between Weisbrod and Brackett I'm on #TeamBrackett. Weisbrod always had a greasy look to him that I never liked.

Oh I know pm's get posted publicly sometimes, but was this PM's that are getting exposed? or was it within his and his buddies scummy group chat that somebody got their hands on? From what I saw, I think they got hacked. I could be wrong, and if so then he definitely doesn't have a case. EDIT: I don't even know if he has a case if he did get hacked... that's why I was asking if there are any lawyers/legal assistants that can weigh in on this? It's more of a curiosity thing. Big difference tho isn't it?
-
I'm not excusing what he did, he's a POS that doesn't deserve to be in the league. He's a tweener anyways so he was as good as gone regardless imo. But the goal of private information is to remain private. If he got hacked, that means the social media platform servers have some security concerns that need to be addressed. And if he wants to present the case that he could've made millions and this invasion of privacy cost him that money then he'll be able to find lawyers to represent him. Again, I don't agree with it because I believe he was on his way out of the league regardless. BUT companies are liable for their cybersecurity measures. I'm sure they're up to industry/regulation standards but you wonder with 100s of millions if not billions using Twitter/IG, perhaps they're responsible for going the extra mile in terms of cybersecurity. I'm just playing devil's advocate But I am curious... Perhaps any lawyers/legal assistants can weigh in on this?
