  1. Full Elliotte Friedman article: https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/31-thoughts-nhl-players-beijing-2022-winter-olympics/ I posted this not too long ago, but here it is again: Looks like they're finally being reasonable
  2. Not only that, but the NHL is not allowed broadcast any games/videos/highlights/marketing whatsoever from games so there is literally 0 upside for the league to do it. In fact, it's beyond that, they would be taking huge losses to shut down their league and pay for the players to fly overseas with their families where all the best of the best could risk injuries and affecting their club's success.
  3. I'd cheer for team Canada without a second's hesitation... the nation's success is bigger than our club's players. That said, after watching the video below, I can't blame the NHL one bit if they don't allow players to go to the Olympics UNLESS the circumstances have changed:
  4. Lack of pushback is pretty disgusting. Wolf pack mentality is not possible with this culture. They have the personnel if they were going to do it. Schaller, Beagle, Sutter, Virtanen, Roussel, Benn, Myers, Horvat, Miller. That's some solid weight if they wanted to do something about it. Not the case.
  5. Livid about Petey's treatment and once again no response from the guys. Backlund should have been buried underneath the ground. Same with their skill guys.
  6. Benn can play either side. Point is that we are down a man on LD so Brisebois came up to replace that. "Refferty" is rolling along with Juolevi, no need to disrupt his flow to sit him in the pressbox.
  7. All those saying TG is the one keeping the players from playing physical, he didn't mind slotting MacEwen in on the 2nd line replacing Eriksson after his fight. Seems to me like he's rewarding the guy for his physical play. I never bought that narrative - it started last year with the Florida incident when he did actually tell guys not to go after Matheson, but that was an isolated incident imo. There was also a Canucks behind the scenes video released recently (will try to find it) where in his pre-game speech in the locker room he tells guys to be physical as well. I will try to find the video and post later.

i agree @Squamfan I think it is the culture and the culture is driven by market demand as well. When my interest in hockey really peaked circa 2006-2007 I remember lots of fans and media alike would get on a player's case if they took a penalty that offset a 2 min PP we got as a result of a bad hit. They'd call it a stupid penalty. F**k the 2 min PP I want blood if one of our guys goes down. That attitude is what makes players think twice about standing up for each other, let alone be the aggressors. It was over a couple of seasons and then MG with his dumb f*king quote about turning the other cheek really set this feeble and fearful culture into motion.

  8. They get a bump in pay - but it's not so small. They are getting rewarded financially for good play. That's why they're getting called up. They're also depth options. If another guy goes down, guess who's in the lineup...
  9. Seems like an injury on the left side. We have Tanev Myers and Stecher on the right side. Where does Rafferty play?
  10. Very intrigued on what JB will do. This will be an indicator on what his plan is going forward with this roster. Especially on defense. We already have a glut of dmen (Benn has been scratched for like 2 months now) and we have Tryamkin coming in late March/April. Not to mentione Juolevi, Rafferty, Brisebois all needing looks in the big club. I think they need to move somebody on the roster on the backend. Even though we're pushing for the playoffs, we do have to move some cap and bodies out so that we can make room for the young guys. If Tanev is not moved we would probably lose him as a UFA this summer. Would not be the end of the world since we have a number of players that can take his spot, but not ideal to lose him for nothing. Someone brought up an idea that we can treat Tanev as a rental without actually having to pay to bring him in, which I can live with. But again, not ideal. It'll be very interesting to see which direction JB and company take it. EDIT: I guess my prediction would be that someone is moved off the roster on the backend. Lame I know... What I WOULD like to happen is Tanev get moved for a pick (1st, 2nd or even a 3rd doesn't matter) but just to recoup one of the picks we gave up in the Miller trade.
  11. I do... as a player where he was in his career when those trades were brought up you would think he'd give anything to get a fresh start anywhere and possibly revive and extend his career. He also nixed a trade to Ottawa (that's the rumour anyways). Either way, we have him for 2 more years after this one and if we can live with another year of Loui Eriksson next year, his buyout would be VERY reasonable before the last year of his contract. It would also get us out of a jam when Petey and Hughes's new contracts kick in.
  12. Fun little proposal:

    To EDM:

    Boeser

    Horvat

    Juolevi

    Lind

    To VAN:

    McDavid

    Roussel- McDavid - Virtanen

    Miller- Pettersson - Gaudette

    Pearson - Sutter - Eriksson

    Schaller - Beagle - Bailey/MacEwen

    Baily/MacEwen

Ok maybe not that little :P I know this would never happen which is why I didn't post it as a formal proposal, but it's just fun to think about. Would the value be similar? 2 major core pieces for the roster - 1 also replaces Puljujarvi's value in a trade, a top 4 projected Dman that is knocking at the door (so they can move one of their contracts on the backend), and a middle six piece that should help with production if not this year then next year. They also get a little bit of cap relief

    What do y'all think?

"Biggest problem I have is the lines, I'd put McDizzle and Petey together"

They'd be double-shifted so it wouldn't matter about who is in the 2nd line (as they would be the 2nd line too).

I actually think Edmonton says no. Fun to speculate on values though.

  13. I honestly think it's the market. I don't think it's Green. Obviously none of us are in the room so we don't know but it's the one constant for the past 12 years of Canucks hockey. It can't be coincidence with 2 different regimes. Even when Willie was here... same problem. Although we had a smaller team then. That said Tampa is a small team and they have a lot more bite and push back than we do.
  14. Honestly don't think so. AV is a hard-nosed coach who was asked to coach his players to turn the other cheek here. Granted that direction was given by Gillis and he died on that sword but that wasn't AV's style in NY or Philly... I honestly think it's this market. Everybody starts foaming if any player takes a penalty even if it's standing up for a teammate.
  15. Maybe it's the pressure from the media/fans every friggin' time takes any kind of penalty at all?
  16. Is it the coaches? the media? the fans? What makes the players so afraid to stand up for each other in this market? We have a few guys that can play the body and get in scrums, I don't understand why they're all neutered as soon as they join this team.
  17. We have a big team too... This guy plays with his heart on his sleeve every shift, and nobody gives 2 sh*ts. I wouldn't stay quiet if I were him in that locker room to be honest.
  18. I'm watching the Oilers Flames game (recording the Canucks game) but just saw highlights... Did anybody jump Karlsson for driving Motte into the boards when he was in a vulnerable position like that? EDIT: Nvm... I guess I have my answer.
  19. This guy's character is through the roof by all accounts. He's loyal and I believe he's on record saying he wants to play for us. I have no idea how the narrative that he might bolt got started but I have 0 worries.
  20. We already have Benn, plus we have Tryamkin coming up that fits that description so no need to spend any assets on Dillon. Including cap space this summer. I would have liked him on the team as a rugged hulking Dman but I think he's redundant in the bottom pairing and he's not a reliable top 4 dman like Tanev - when he's not injured.
