Tocchet replaces Gallant at ASG

Maybe not room per se, but others will think twice before taking a run at Marchand now because they know he's got an edge. He's a premier player in the league and he's small, yet he doesn't get cranked nearly as much as the Sedins did during their playing days. There's a reason for that... And it ain't because he's more likeable.
-
Jeebus we're just going in circles.... have fun on that high horse, I'll keep supporting our players when they stand up for themselves and each other.
-
I outlined the reason for it 3 times already, if you don't want to acknowledge it, that's on you. Hits weren't in the same game but they were against him, and he'd grown sick and tired of it. Can't blame him. Would you rather he gets injured before doing something about it? Or are you one of those holier-than-thou fans that don't want anything to be done even if he does get injured? They'll beat them on the PP right? I just want to see where you feel like it's a good line to draw for a 'classy' message. He's 5'9" 185lbs and even that is an overestimate according to some websites. I have 0 issues with what he did, and now others around the league will take notice. I hope more of our players take a page out of his book and grow enough spine to stand up for themselves when they're getting pushed around.
-
It wasn't senseless. I've made that point very clear. There were plenty of attempts to take his head off in the last highlight package I mentioned earlier, and he finally decided enough is enough and wanted to send a message early in the game before he got a concussion. No issues with hit. Call me classless all you want, like I give 2 sh**s what someone on an hockey forum thinks of me.

I care if people are trying to catch our guys with big hits all game. I do want them to respond any way they know how. I have no issue with Hoglander sending a message. And yes, I do have a double standard. I want our guys to always be the ones dishing out the hurt and never want them be on the receiving end of it. And lord knows, we have been. I hope Petey elbows Matheson into oblivion next time he sees him. I hope Keith gets a career ending concussion. I hope Tierney gets boarded into the stands next time we play Ottawa. I'm a Canucks fan. What's your point?
-
Hoglander doesn't know that. In the video right above (2:20 long) we can see multiple players trying to catch him with open ice hits but he managed to slip away from all of them. Maybe he's had enough of players trying to take his head off and decided to do something about it. Can't blame him one bit, and I'd love if all our players had some of that edge. Maybe now guys will think twice before trying to lay him and cause him to have a concussion.

He's done a great job putting together a respectable team (in the standings anyways). Flames are tough to play against, they have one of the best D-cores in the league and have a good mix of skill/size/grit up front. The only question mark is in net, but they have plenty of trade chips to sort that out if Rittich doesn't work out as a starter. I have no idea why he gets so much hate. He's been a really good GM in his tenure. Lucic is looking better this year. Lighter on his feet and he looks like he'll be able to put up some points as long as he keeps his game simple and crashes the net. Brad made moves this summer to address some needs the Flames have. They might take a step back in the regular season but they'll make some noise in the playoffs imo. It's a good move to extend him.

[Report] John Tavares named Maple Leafs captain

Haha we're going to have to agree to disagree on this heffy. Reilly is a very solid defenseman I'd love to have him on this team. -

Matthews shouldn't even be in the conversation imo. I'd give it to Marner before Matthews. But really it should either go to Reilly or JT. The thing with Reilly is that he stayed there during tough years and stuck with the team. I think he might be the longest serving Leaf (feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken). JT just came in as a UFA but he's a leader no doubt about it. I have no issues with it. Oh, and still hate the Leafs and hope they crash and burn. -

I think the Beagle line has decent shut down ability, and Baertschi is definitely a capable 2 way player, so the Sutter line can handle some responsibility as well, despite Gaudette weighing them down a bit. We have enough 2 way players to handle the defensive end of it, but what we don't have is enough offensive players to put the puck in the net. This team was at the very bottom of the league in goals over the past 4 years. So I'm honestly baffled when we sacrifice a very solid offensive guy, over a 4th liner. But what's even more baffling is people twisting themselves into pretzels to get the decision to make sense. If it looks like a duck...
-
Management has constantly referenced it as top 9, they're looking for 3 scoring lines. Also, Baertschi has played on the 3rd line on this team before we had Ferland and Miller, so those 2 don't affect him. There's still a spot for him on the third line, just like there was before. How is this lineup: Ferland - Pettersson - Boeser Pearson - Horvat - Miller Leivo - Sutter - Gaudette Motte/Schaller/Eriksson - Beagle - Virtanen Motte/Schaller/Eriksson better than this lineup: Ferland - Pettersson - Boeser Pearson - Horvat - Miller Baertschi - Sutter - Gaudette Leivo - Beagle - Virtanen Motte/Schaller/Eriksson I get that you can't waive Eriksson for the politics, but Motte and Schaller over Baertschi? That's a headscratcher to say the least.
-
Definitely didn't see him as a waiver player. If it's between that and the waiver wire, I'd rather keep him on the 4th line/pressbox and have him play in the inevitable injury apocalypse that hits us every year, than put him on waivers. Also, I'm just curious, would it be outrageous to see him as a 4th line/pressbox player, but ok to see him as a waiver player?
-
ROUSSEL IS INJURED. ROUSSEL CANNOT PLAY FOR THE NEXT MONTH AT LEAST. I just thought I would capitalize that so you don't ignore this pesky little detail when you're still arguing. Also, like I said, JB and TG went out of their way in the press conference at the start of the year to say that they look at it as top-9 as in 3 scoring lines. If you have a second line of Pearson - Horvat - Miller, that's certainly going to matchup against the opposition's top line. Beagle's line matches up against another scoring line, but we need some scoring of our own. Because we scored the least amount of goals over the past 4 years than any other team in the NHL not in Vegas. Baertschi helps create offense and produces at a very respectable rate.
-
Because Baertschi is a top 6 player. You don't seem to mind the far cushier usage for Boeser. Or Petey, or Quinn Hughes. He has cushier usage because they're different players serving different roles. Which is why it makes 0 sense to compare the 2 players aside from the fact that they play on the same team. You don't seem to think that matters. I have no idea who started that narrative that it was down between Roussel and Baertschi, but I know it wasn't someone from management. Somebody here mentioned it and people decided to run with it. There's 0 support for that argument. Also Roussel is on LTIR - you don't seem to think that matters. Yet another time you're wrong but you refuse to admit it.
-
I'm not underrating him. He produces well for a guy in his role, and he's a good valuable player to have. But to rank him above Baertschi who produces on a 2nd line pace when healthy doesn't make any sense. I don't see why him and Baertschi are in competition, especially since he won't be back for another few months. Nope, it's just something the fans drummed up to justify a headscratcher of a move. And you're going to match up Schaller against the opponent's top lines? Good luck with that. Plenty of players who can PK including Motte/Schaller (whoever stays behind from the 2), Horvat, Beagle, Sutter, Miller, Pearson. That argument also doesn't hold any water. We need players who can produce and create offense MUCH more than we need players to PK...
-
Well you're using stats from Roussel's career year at 29 years old. I think it's safe to say that he's hard pressed to match that moving forward. He sits at 0.36PPG over his career compared to Baertschi's 0.48 PPG. Also, Roussel is brought in to be gritty, physical, hard to play against, gets under the opponents skin and penalty kill - which he can do just fine on the 4th line. He takes over Motte's spot, not Baertschi's. Lastly, and most importantly, Roussel isn't back for another few months. So when he finally comes back, they can evaluate who's spot he's going to take then. I actually doubt that JB and co even had Roussel in mind when they decided to waive Baertschi. It's just a narrative fans are trying to push as far as I'm concerned. It makes 0 sense to me that they would have Baertschi and Roussel in the same bucket - and then choose Roussel over Baertschi when Roussel is months away from practicing.
