First off, the Canucks always refer to the lineup as top 9 because they want 3 scoring lines. They went out of their way to point that out during media availability a few weeks ago. So to say Roussel is a better fit on the 3rd line than Baertschi is asinine. Baertschi is much more competent in creating offense - which is what we are severely lacking - than Roussel. Baer is an offensive guy, with solid 2way play. Roussel was brought in for a different role, and he can serve that role just fine playing on the 4th line. Especially with how much time he spends in the penalty box, I'd rather he takes his liberties while he's on the 4th line. Secondly, with the inevitable injuries to the top 6 - who would you want to to play up the lineup, Baertschi or Roussel? This is management choosing Schaller, or Motte over Baertschi. As much as I like Motte, there's no competition between him and Baer. I don't even want to discuss Schaller. It is a headscratcher for sure. This would have been my lineup going into the season: Ferland - Pettersson - Boeser Pearson - Horvat - Miller Baertschi - Gaudette/Sutter - Sutter/Gaudette Leivo - Beagle - Virtanen Motte/Eriksson Waive Schaller. When Roussel returns from LTIR, waive Motte or Eriksson, or make a trade, or allow injuries to dictate your decision.

@Alflives Exactly. Even if he does not get claimed off waivers, there is no scenario I see for him reporting in Utica. He'll definitely be looking for a deal back home in the KHL. I don't see him working out in the Canucks org anymore, unfortunately and that happens. To me, it's really a competition between him and Baertschi, and Baertschi comes out on top any day.

It is literally a shoulder to shoulder hit. For the second one I pointed out, he literally takes him into the board. Not even a hit. Gives him a slash then rides him into the board and they're on their feet the entire time. 14:14 is another example in the video of a clean hit resulting in a fight. It's a sample video from an era that spanned across multiple decades, and in the sample video you clearly see multiple examples of what I'm talking about. There was less and less fighting over time, so fights after clean hits stuck out more by comparison, hence what you're referring to as the "new era." No I didn't watch the 70s and 80s but don't tell me they didn't fight after clean hits back then. I just gave you 3 examples from a sample video. I'm tired of this cyclical argument and I have to wake up early to go to work tomorrow. Good night.

I gave you an example from a Youtube video because that is literally proof of what I'm talking about. You're still not satisfied. How else would like you me to show you? Do you want me to give you hundreds of dates, and exact games where fighting after clean hits happened?? I don't know how it is you want me to show you what I mean by old time hockey. Old time hockey is fighting when standing up for yourself, teammates, instilling some emotions in the game after clean hits or otherwise etc. New age hockey is "we'll beat them on the powerplay". Y'know the refs jumping in after willing combatants drop the gloves and before they engage. That sound familiar? EDIT: And no I'm not suggesting they fight after every clean hit, but when a guy is running around and steam rolling teammates, you bet old time hockey means someone jumping in and putting an end to it.

@canuck73_3 2 of the first 3 fights happened after clean hits. I don't want to watch the entire video because it's an hour long (feel free if you have that much time on your hands), but don't sit there and pretend like I don't know what I'm talking about. Old time hockey. Good night. Forgot to point out the timestamp: 1:21, and 4:41.

What are you on about with the new-age stuff? New age stuff is turning the other cheek and not fighting. What Borowiecki did was actually old time hockey where he put an end to a guy who was running his teammates. He didn't overreact, that's how it's supposed to be done. If MacEwen didn't run that player earlier in the shift Borowiecki wouldn't have gone after him. Let me know if MacEwen runs another guy for the rest of the game. I won't hold my breath.
-
Nah there is plenty of reason for Borowiecki to drop the gloves. MacEwen was "running around" on that shift and already steam rolled a player before hitting Borowiecki, so he decided to put an end to it. And did it effectively I might add. MacEwen had a couple of shifts after the fight without even throwing a hit. Stuff like that happens often around the league, just not in Nucks land.

It's something he'll improve on over time. He's not going to be at Ovechkin's level, but it's definitely something he can improve on. That said I think his wrister is deadlier than his one timer. Can you send me the link to where you were able to determine this? I'd like to find some advanced stats of my own regarding the PP with Leivo on it. That does matter. It matters immensely. If Horvat is replacing anyone, he should replace Miller/Ferland. Having a right shot in the high slot gives Petey 2 options for the one timer, right shot in the middle and Boeser on the left wing. That means PKers have to cheat more towards the player in the high slot because they're in a more dangerous area, and that happens to be Leivo - for good reason, he's a got a heavy, accurate wrister posing a legitimate threat. Plus he's very good at deflecting pucks. This leaves Boeser with more space to find some open ice and Petey can get him the puck. I wouldn't mind having Horvat on the first unit screening the goalie and tipping in pucks, but to me Miller/Ferland do a good enough job, and that frees up Horvat to drive the offense on the second unit. If we move him off the second unit, we don't really have anyone driving the bus there. It's a really good strategy IMO. And you can't play Horvat the entire time on the PP because he's already getting 20+ mins a night, he's already overplayed imo so that just puts him on an express train to LTIR-ville. -

Gabriel would be a huge help in our division. That said, we already have too many bodies up front so probably won't happen. -

I like Leivo on the Powerplay. Give us another right shot besides Boeser. He's got a really good shot, plus he's money in front of the net. I also like Miller in front of the net. He's a big body and another guy who can get sticks on pucks. When Ferland comes back, I'd slot him in for Miller in the goalies grill, Leivo in the high slot for one-timers and deflections, Hughes, Boeser and Petey orchestrating the play from the outside. Miller, Horvat, Pearson, Baertschi and Edler/Myers on the second unit. Not huge on the fact that there would be no right shots on PP2 but they'll still be able to wreak havoc and capitalize on rebounds in front of the net. Plus all of these guys have pretty good wristers so they'll be able to do some damage as well. -
What he said. Plus, the compound of injuries where we are required to call on help from Utica is more likely to happen on road trips. Utica is a much more central location to fly the player out and have them catch up with the team wherever the team is on the road. Comets have a great fanbase in Utica, leave them there and let them practice and earn a living in a blue collar city. Believe it or not, that rubs on people when they live in a blue collar city like Utica.

Ah ok, thank you. I sometimes miss games and I usually like to see what people are saying after the game, so I don't want to have to have to scroll through the massive GDT to figure out when post game comments started. -

@-AJ- @debluvscanucks Can we please go back to splitting the PGT from the GDT? Perhaps a vote on CDC might work to show what the majority would prefer?
