Call me crazy, but that sounds like the exact mentality behind Oilers management. Rushing kids to the big league doesn't get you anywhere. He's a kid who's still developing, let him take his time.

Yes I'm very well aware of the bolded part. I'm not saying Tryamkin is operating illegally or in bad faith. I understand the risks etc. but if anyone is wondering why Russian players get a bad wrap in the NHL, this is why. There is always a big risk with them bolting home even though they would be perfectly capable of playing and doing well in the best league in the world, if they commit and show dedication.

I am not sure who you are referring to, but it certainly isn't me. I don't know if anybody has that expectation, it's just sometimes nice to daydream about a team full of BC born players to come play for their hometown team. I don't think anybody takes it personal if a BC born player doesn't choose to come home. I disagree with your second statement as well. A degree of loyalty is definitely expected from players to the team that drafted them. That's why the whole college route has been controversial for the past couple of seasons. Players are opting to not sign their NHL contracts with the team that chose them after 4 years in college. It's called a loophole in the CBA agreement for a reason. As you implied, however, it is a 2 way street. The organization is expected to show loyalty to their players - perhaps this organization even takes it to an extreme.

He did not cost the team that signed him anything (other than the paycheque). Canucks spent a third rounder on him, an unknown prospect at the time, and gave him time to develop etc. Maybe he's laying a solid foundation for his marriage right now, and in a few years he'll feel more comfortable to come to Canada. On the other hand, he could have kids in the next couple of years and decide he does not want to uproot his family. Hopefully he decides to make the move sooner rather than later.

Well said, I've turned my outlook around. Thank you.

I have always liked the big Russian but lately I've been slowly but steadily building a grudge against him because he's not showing loyalty to the franchise that took a chance on him. I think he needs to commit a little more to the team that drafted. I know I sound like a typical entitled Vancouverite right now, but choosing his family over us irks me I realize this is a childish comment, but I can't help how I feel. I would still welcome him with open arms if he decides to come back.

My favourite part was how his teammates were talking about him. It was genuine happiness for him. Good kid.

Almost brought tears to my eyes... Real excited about this kid

JB isn't quite as volatile as Garth. Of course I can't blame him with a name like that Sorry if I offend any Garth's out there

Can we just draft dmen with all our draft picks this year? Bound to get a couple of top 4s with JB's drafting

Gadjovich - Pettersson - Lind Dahlen - Horvat - Boeser Virtanen - Guadette - Lockwood Gaunce - MacEwen - Palmu Archibald Juolevi - Tryamkin Brisebois - Gudbranson Rathbone- Brassard Hutton/Pouliot Demko DiPietro Forward group looks amazing, defense needs work, goalies look amazing. Future looks bright.

Can anyone put together gifs or a tribute video of all these hits? I keep hearing about them but due to network restrictions (FRICKING SPORTSNET) I have not been able to watch like the last 10 games. That's one thing I hate about the game highlight videos, is that they skip the hits and rough stuff even though it's clearly a big part of the game.

[Discussion] Signing Kane in the offseason

Didn't mean it as a joke, but I'm glad you're laughing... My point was to illustrate how many LW-ers we already have in the system. -
[Discussion] Signing Kane in the offseason
Bissurnette replied to smokes's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
No, we don't need someone who brings all the attention Kane does. This market is volatile as it is. He's also more of a finisher than a playmaker and if anything we need more playmakers. Plus, like someone has previously mentioned, we have a bigger need for a legitimate top 4 Dman. We have plenty of forwards coming into the fold from within the organization we do not need to clog it up further with outside help. LW depth next year: D. Sedin (of course assuming they don't retire) Leipsic Motte Baertschi Archibald Goldobin Gaunce Eriksson Granlund Boucher and that's assuming nobody else from the youngsters challenges for a spot. Even if the Sedins retire, we would still have too many forwards on LW. IMO, they should try to sell Granlund for a pick at the draft. Too many players that do the same thing (Granlund, Eriksson, Gaunce). -
Why would you think you can critic a young Canuck (local boy at that), and not expect people to jump in and defend him? You wouldn't shut up about him before, so you're going to hear a lot about it from the people who have had his back all along. He's 21 years old and he's still developing. He will still go through rough patches, if you want people to leave you alone in this thread, feel free to keep your comments to yourself when he does go through a rough patch. Because only then will we know that you have decided to finally accept him as a Canuck.

Yeah according to recent studies the average height of a male in NA is just under 5'10 (apparently it's 69.7" to be exact). Again that's just the average height of your average Joe, not NHLers.
-
Yeah I wasn't talking about Palmu, I was talking about the poster I was quoting. I know 5'7" is small... As for the NHL, like I said, I hope Palmu reaches his potential. I like the idea of a Virtanen - Gaudette - Lockwood or Gadjovich - Gaudette - Virtanen 3rd line a little more. That said, hopefully Palmu keeps improving and I'm sure JB will find a spot for him in the lineup.
-
To be fair, 5'9'' is the average height of a male in north America.
-
Same here. 5'7" 155lbs Palmu is actually bigger than I am...
-
Sounds like a Brendan Gallagher type player. Hope he can reach his full potential.
-
Alright fair enough +1

Juolevi has not played a game in the NHL yet... We don't know how well he'll do in his first season so let's just wait and see before deciding what his ceiling is. Plus, Werenski and Provorov could easily take steps backwards just as Dumba and Nurse could keep improving. We don't know where any of these players will end up. Dumba could turn into a #1 Dman, and Nurse could find an offensive touch enough to be used on the PP where he could turn into a 40 point Dman. Development is more important than drafting.
-
Why do you say that? Just based on his development so far? Also, Nurse and Dumba are drastically different players, who will Juolevi end up closer to?
