  1. You know I'm a huge fan of Gudbranson. He's having a good year and bringing everything we're missing on the backend. I would like him to be more confident and carry the puck a bit more. He showed that capability for a couple of games this year and I thought he looked amazing doing it. But for the past few games he's just been standing back and not even remotely trying to skate the puck. So I'd just like to see that confidence back in him.
  2. Must feel invigorating to crap on someone's ideas from behind a keyboard.
  3. How could he possibly take offense to that? It's a good thing you started the statement by saying "no offense," it makes all the difference.
  4. He's clearly in NHL be a pro mode
  5. Apologies for the late reply. I don't think it's less likely Boeser stays up with the big club at all, especially considering the preseason he's had. Maybe ego isn't the best way to describe it, but I think he might learn some short cuts in the minors especially since he knows he can perform quite well in the NHL already. Again, apologies for the late reply. I think it's more important to show the youth that if they do what's asked of them, they are rewarded. Plus we will have plenty of youngsters on the team here that he could be building chemistry with. The only concern might be the schedule in the NHL having a lot more games than in college, but he's not coming in as a fresh faced 18 year old, he knows what to expect in the NHL and I trust that he trained accordingly in the summer. The mental aspect of the rigorous schedule he will have to learn sooner or later. EDIT: I just realized this is the Virtanen thread, so might as well also say that JV is progressing really well. Happy to see him on the uprise, I have been preaching patience for a while. We still have to wait years before we see JV at his full potential.
  6. We got Vey from LAK not CGY. Although I see the offensive potential in Goldobin and I still think the Canucks should try everything possible to give him a fair shot in the big league next year, I do recognize that he needs to put in a little more effort on the defensive side this year. Could be a great thing to learn in Utica with Cull.
  7. Received a job offer in Nova Scotia for 61500 annually. Trying to work out the taxes so that I can figure out what my biweekly pay check looks like. Any help? (Yes I have googled stuff)

@VanGnomeif the currency isn't being stored inside the TFSA you can't do it and I inquired about using a large lump sum of money to buy a home with my TFSA and was told highly unlikely. You'd need to challenge that in court. You're better off with what I said above - two trading accounts one taxable one TFSA. But also like I said the CRA has lost in court and there are people who have made 6-7 figures tax free.

@peaches5 wow I didn't realize about the re-upping on the TFSA account I am shocked but fortunately I have never been in a position where I had to find that out first hand LOL

@VanGnome I believe that the purchase of said investment has to come from the TFSA account I don't know how crypto currency investments work with TFSAs. Stocks, commodities, mutual funds/indexes etc  are all things you can for sure invest in through TFSA. You should probably contact an expert for how to do what you are proposing to involve a TFSA. It may be possible to do but I don't think there are clear rules about how you go about doing to guarantee the tax free status of returns on crypto currency.

      Awesome job offer congrats!

  8. Definitely agree that Virtanen should go to the AHL and try to get his offensive game going there but as Warhippy said, he's come a long way and glad to see him making so much progress. If he stays on the right track, this kid will be worth the wait. But most importantly, he needs to play with confidence especially in the offensive zone to be effective. As for Boeser, I don't agree that he should go down to the minors. I don't think he needs to prove anything there. He's got the smarts, skating ability and definitely the shot to make an impact in the NHL. To me that's more important than dominating the AHL. If he gets 10-13 mins here playing on the PP, I think he would learn more. Sending kids to the minor league can go one of 2 ways, they can gain confidence if they are lacking which would be great, but if they already have the confidence, they get some extra "false" confidence (almost an ego) which could work against them, teaching them some bad habits.
  9. And that's against the league feared big and heavy forecheck of the Kings. He was able to keep up and compete with their team.
  10. Ok good to know he's been working on it. I didn't watch dev camp, I just remember that play from last year.
  11. I didn't mean his edgework. I meant his acceleration and top speed. I seem to remember him getting smoked in a puck chase in preseason last year. He's smart and he can figure out a way to not let it hinder him too much, but I'm just hoping he continues to work on his skating so that his speed doesn't work against him in the NHL.
  12. Amazing. I think the only question is if his skating (and to a lesser extent, his shot) are good enough for the NHL or if he needs a year in Europe. Both of which can be worked on heavily while he's in Europe, so it's of no concern.
  13. His shot is decent, but there's definitely quite a bit of potential for improvement imo. His biggest asset is his net front presence and his ability to wreak havoc and deflect pucks in. I think it was 41 in 46 - which is still amazing. I'm confident Eriksson will get back to form this year and improve on last year. Gadjovich hopefully plays more than a 4th line role eventually but yes he is a good candidate who can chip in on the 4th line and work his way up the line up, unlike pure skill players who are usually not ideal to use on the 4th line.
  14. What I want to know is how did it come to this in the Elias Pettersson thread.
  15. Sutter can get in on the forecheck pretty quickly and aggressively. That's good speed to me for the NHL. We don't know how MacEwen would look next to them. What I'm having trouble with, is how can you be so sure about ZacEwen's ability when we haven't seen him skate next to them yet?
  16. He was playing against prospects. Let's just wait and see how he looks against men. Not to say his skating isn't good enough to be in the NHL, but I think Horvat, Baertschi, Sutter, even Eriksson might have something to say about the claim that he would be the fastest guy on the team. EDIT: Forgot about Megna.
  17. Not to be discouraging because I really like the prospect, but his skating and his shot are not as you great as you claim they are. What he does have going for him is that he is a decent skater, and he's big and physical. Good gritty forward who I think will be able to make the bottom 6 eventually, but not next year. He has a couple of years ahead of him in the AHL. That's just my 2 cents in. Plus he has a lot of people ahead of him on the depth chart.
  18. Not only does he have David Backes potential, he actually looks like David Backes. I'm excited. Hopefully he can work on agility and shot. They are the only 2 things missing from his game.
  19. To me Gaunce is more valuable to a contending team than Granlund. Granlund has a very replaceable skillset. Gaunce can be a leader shutdown 4th line C (arguably already is), with the potential to chip in valuable offense every now and again. He's got the size, leadership traits, grit, shutdown skills, and faceoff ability to be that new age 4th line C that teams will be looking for. Gaunce also already has playoff performer written all over him. That's not to say he is irreplaceable, but to me, Gaunce brings a more valuable skillset to the table than Granlund.
  20. Truly the heart and soul of the organization. This is a sad day for canucks fans. His never quit attitude, his defiant demeanor on the ice, his team first approach, his love of the game, his community work, his leadership, his work ethic, his journey to the NHL are what it means to be a Canuck. He's the definition of what a Canuck player should be like. When he was reminiscing about his first goal: "And the most important thing, we won that game."
  21. Exactly. The difference between the 2 markets alone is enough of a shock to anybody's system and needs lots of time to get used to. Patience.
  22. I'm in the opposite boat to be honest. I thought it was a bad deal at the time but I've grown fonder of it over time. Now I like the trade and still think we come out on top. Gudbranson is a role model. He's a vocal, emotional, and well-spoken leader. Not to mention his intimidating stature and physicality. All of those put together are his intangibles you hear so much about. Tryamkin does not make him expendable. What (most of) this fan base needs to learn is that you can't have 1 guy pulling on the rope in terms of pushback. They always get discouraged and broken down less than halfway through the season. We need a wolf pack mentality so that teams stop feasting on the softness of this team. To develop that wolf pack mentality, you need multiple guys out there with plenty of push back, so that other Canucks know that there are intimidating guys on the team who will have their backs. They start joining that train, and you start getting buy in from everyone - wolf pack mentality. The twins are great and we have been lucky to have them on this team for so long, but I think they bring a certain tame nature to this team. I'm not ashamed to say that I am looking forward to when we change that image, which comes with the changing of the old guard. People might say that 2 players alone don't have that effect on the whole team, but it's not any 2 players. It's the 2 players who are the faces and identity of this NHL club.
  23. Good for you. I'm just happy we finally see the kid play.
  24. @oldnews ok this is getting ridiculous
