Nope, don't really care much for what Dan the smurf has to say. Feel free to hold that against me.
-
@oldnews Look at that, the coaching staff finally deemed him to be "fit enough" to play.
-
Good ol' Rodney kid His recent blog about the all-star weekend was something else eh? Unfortunately, Virtanen being a local kid seems to have worked against him. That's why I believe an extended stint with Utica (all of this year and maybe next year too) might instill some good habits in him.
-
I warned you. I'm done with you now. Get out of my face.
-
Consider yourself warned. Next time it's a report. Don't really know how any of our prospects develop being immersed in this market 24/7. It's a miracle Horvat is where he's at. That's a testament to his personality but very few people are like him. Jake is in a great place to develop where he can stay away from it all. Green seems to be guiding him in the right direction. Hopefully he keeps it up.

Really could not care less whether you lose sleep or not, I wanted to explain my minus in the hopes that you will lay off the personal insults.
-
You are only the second person I have ever minused, and that is not because of your opinions. You are entitled to those. It is because you consistently choose to express your opinions by resorting to pathetic personal attacks on fellow posters. There's no need for that garbage.

Gaudette is more of a 2way player, but he is also a good prospect. Yes they're long shots (especially Zhukenov) but they're not worlds apart, strictly speaking skill-wise, from Ehlers and Nylander. Yes Ehlers and Nylander are more skilled players, but if they're not scoring they're not doing much. All I'm saying is that I like the young players we have in the system, and there's no rhyme or reason to rushing them, or giving up on them as of yet. Virtanen is only 20 years old, he's still got a lot of time and room to grow. We won't start seeing what we have in him for another 3-4 years. For now, preach patience.
-
Not to mention Zhukenov and Lockwood who seem to be rather similar players we have in the system. They might not be as skilled as Nylander or Ehlers, but they're more tenacious/pain in the arse to play against. I'll take that over pure skill anyday. If Nylander or Ehlers play on our team in the playoffs I don't think they'd be doing much damage out on the ice. But that's just my opinion.

I missed the past couple of games can anyone point out any videos or highlights where they show Tryamkin's physical play?

Hacksaw Ridge: 7.5/10

I guess it kind of makes sense. I mean if it wasn't the case then teams would just call up a random player from their farm team at the end of the year and expose him for the draft.
-
They're still paid to play in the AHL. To the extent of my knowledge that is what constitutes a pro league. Seems pretty arbitrary that they would consider the AHL as a minor league and not a pro league.
-
Ahhh so it depends on pro games not nhl games? Wait if that's the case how Biega has to play a certain number of NHL games? He certainly has more than enough pro games under his belt from the AHL. I know this is a quick Google search for me so maybe I should just do that...
-
Yeah that's true although if he produces eventually he could replace Eriksson or Hansen.
-
Doesn't he have to play a certain amount of games in the NHL before he's eligible for the expansion draft? Plus if he's a ufa at the end of this year then it won't even matter because Vegas wouldn't pick him up. I'm not really worried about how we will get rid of him I'm just unsure if we should bring him back and give him another chance or not. I do like that you ended your comment with an HTML closing tag tho

This is the worrier and pessimist in me talking, but I feel like I need to get this off my chest - maybe I should precede this by saying "My name is James, and I'm a worrier." Say Rodin finally comes back but he's behind the 8 ball all year because he's been playing catch up since day 1. He doesn't have a good year. Should the Canucks give him another chance next year? I'm torn because a part of me says yes he's still young and he didn't get a fair crack at it, and another part of me says he will be 26 so how much better can he be next year if he didn't work out as a 25 year old? I don't know folks, I'm struggling here. I guess this counts as my best @Alflives impression.

I never said he should not be sent down. Since he's not being given minutes here, I agree that him spending the rest of the year in Utica is best for his development. He's 20 years old, he's barely an adult and he still can't order a drink in the US. Relax, he's not going to make or break a team. He's going to make mistakes on and off the ice, because that's how most 20 year olds not named Horvat are like. I don't have to prove jack to you or anybody else on these boards. If you need proof go seek it out yourself. So why didn't the coach do something about it then? Why did he keep putting him in the same position over and over again? If he's not contributing to the team, scratch him and get him to work his ass off in the gym, and hope management takes the hint and sends him down. If you think he has a lot more to offer on this team, then give him some leeway, and see where he takes it. His defensive play is not ideal but he's positionally decent, and you sometimes see him going hard on the back check if he's the high forward in the offensive zone. That said, his defensive play is nothing to brag about and he definitely should not be killing any penalties anytime soon. Jake is a different kind of animal. Players like him don't learn how to consistently carry out their intensity and lug their body weight around the ice for a full 60 mins until they're in their mid 20s. That's why I'm preaching patience. And I'm sorry, how many players must I compare him to? Who else around the league do you feel I must bring up in this discussion?
-
And he should be discussed. But to keep saying we should have drafted so and so 2.5 years after the fact is a living in the past a little no? He has not been good this year, and he should have been sent down to Utica a long time ago. That's on management, do you not agree? You make it sound sometimes like his ceiling is a 4th line grinder. I'm just saying a little optimism might do you good. I don't mind you as a poster and I find some of your rhetoric entertaining (in a good way), but we don't seem to see eye to eye on this topic.
-
Exactly. Give him time to hone his craft under Travis Green. He's got nowhere else to go in the meantime.

I haven't watched Marner with the Knights so I can't comment on his defensive play in Junior but he's not better than Jake defensively this year, which is saying a lot because Jake's defensive play is nothing to write home about. Marner gets out-muscled easily and he's too anxious in the defensive zone so he runs around too much. He battles hard on the boards, I'll give him that. Which Leafs games did you watch exactly? I'd love to discuss them with you in detail. I don't want to block him, his posts sometimes make me laugh. But since you're bringing up board rules, let's talk about the one that says we cannot discuss a player's private life. I think it might pertain to this specific thread in some instances. I didn't argue that Ehlers or Nylander are better than Jake now, I said there are countless circumstances that influenced their development and their progress and their respective teams, and we simply don't know how they would have developed here. Who knows, maybe if we picked one of them with our 6th they would have felt a lot more pressure that hindered their progression. Maybe they now feel they got passed on by too many teams and they're playing with a chip on their shoulder that they wouldn't have if they got drafted by us. You just never know which way it would go if circumstances were different. Unless you claim to have omnipotent abilities, then I won't argue with you. He's who we drafted over 2 years ago, no point in still being sour about it now. He is his own benchmark, you don't need to compare him to other players. COMPLETELY different players I might add. He took a step back this year, management should have sent him down because of it. You can't blame him for that, I blame management for not sending him that message earlier. Last year he was good for a rookie, he did exactly what he was asked. He was fast and furious on the forecheck and he tried to improve his defensive play.

Negativity breeds negativity. It's not about what people say on CDC, it's about the negativity by the fans that seeps into the locker room through the media. No he doesn't read CDC, but he can't ignore the media and tweets etc. I thought with all of us being fed up with the team and hoping for a rebuild for years now, we would be kinder and more patient with our younger players. Little did I know y'all are rabid dogs feasting on this 20 year old kid like he's single-handedly taking this team down. He was given a spot last year because the Calgary Hitmen were a team with lots of issues (on the ice, and behind the bench), and they weren't going to risk him being mistreated on that team. Plus, with his size and physicality management thought he might learn some bad habits in junior that he might find tough to shake off. They wanted to avoid that, and he was physically mature to compete in the NHL so they kept him. At the time, with us desperately needing youth in our lineup, that was a good enough justification to keep him with the big club. This year he shouldn't have been up with the big club, but JB kept him here. There were many rumours at the start of the year that Jake was asked to play with less physicality so that he doesn't take himself out of position and focus more on scoring. The coach should have given him more mins to evaluate him properly, and if he was not playing well management should have sent him down a few weeks ago. Very few of us would have disagreed with him spending time in Utica, but keeping him in limbo is not doing anybody any favours. That's not his fault, that's on coaching/management getting their signals crossed. Please don't lecture me on Marner's and Nylander's play in their zone. I had to move to the east coast this year so I catch a lot of Laughs games unfortunately, and if you think their defensive play is better than Jake's then I'll know you haven't watched a Laughs game. The reason Nylander is doing well offensively is because he's playing on a purely offensive line with heavy talent, some might say generational talent. Put him in the west and play him with Burrows, Granlund and the likes and see how many points he gets. Is your argument really that @The 5th Line was moaning about Jake since the start so it's ok for him to keep doing it? Do folks still complain about us not drafting Perry in '03, or Eberle in '08? Every time this thread gets bumped, it's him complaining about Jake. We get it, you don't like the pick. You think he's garbage and he doesn't belong in the NHL. There are some of us who are still actually hopeful about the pick, and we don't need to have your unwavering pessimism shoved down our throats. Most people agree that Jake should have been playing in Utica this year, especially if those rumours are true. Management should have sent him down weeks ago but they didn't, did you expect him to go and tell them he's not ready to play in the NHL? How well do you think that conversation would go? Nylander is playing in the east where it's a completely different style of play, while Ehlers is playing on a huge, heavy team with plenty of skill to back it up. They can create room for him, he's not expected to be a physical deterrent on his team like Virtanen is as a 20 year old. Do you really think Ehlers or Nylander would be on the same trajectory that they are on now if they were playing on this team? Different circumstances, different teammates, different systems, different cities and atmospheres. Who knows what would have happened here if we drafted one of them instead? Y'all still have your panties in a bunch about the 2014 draft, we drafted VIRTANEN. Accept it and move on.
-
Nylander isn't on this team... Ah screw it, this is futile.
-
Because he's a young Canucks player and could use your support. At least if you don't want to show support, stop spewing off negativity. Everywhere I look I see you trashing him. That's not helpful in any way, and despite what you say, it doesn't show belief in a young player. And it doesn't mean you're a "realist", it just means you can't see potential. None of us are saying he's playing great right now, but some of us are still choosing to look at his potential. What tells me that you're expecting him to fail is you assuming that he's going down to the AHL and not showing any improvement.
-
He's a top 10 draft pick. He's a bull on skates, he doesn't need to start on the 4th line in the AHL and work his way up ffs... he's not a 2way player so he doesn't need to learn how to shutdown opponents on the 4th line. He needs to go down to Utica and play top 6 mins. Even if he's not producing for a while he needs to have that confidence return to his game. No other way to do it, unless you want to see the kid fail, which I called you out on before but you insisted that you don't.
