  1. As long as he doesn't get himself out of the play to hit (which he doesn't), hitting doesn't limit his scoring. I get that they want him to score more, we all do, but that best way to do that is if he gets some minutes and he can't do that on the big club. Best move would be to send him down. Anyways, this is the Horvat thread, so I'll end by saying that this kid is alright. And he will be alright when the team starts trending on the upswing.
  2. @J.R. Also, apparently management has asked Virtanen to hit less and focus more on offense. They took away the only thing he did very well consistently this last year.
  3. Apparently Virtanen is playing with an injury so I'm not too certain how long that will last. And I would not count on Etem stirring up any offense. I agree about Hansen stirring that line, and I see your point but it's the only line going. Maybe a shake-up down the whole lineup might get more than one line clicking.
  4. It's about time management sees that he needs some AHL seasoning. I'm the kids biggest supporter, so I want to see what is best for him being done. Clearly staying up in the NHL is not doing him any favours so it makes me wonder what they're waiting on before they send him down to get some mins on a team where the stakes aren't so high.
  5. Horvat between Eriksson and Hansen might work. Give the kid some quality linemates and see how far he takes it. Put Sutter on a line with Granlund and Baertschi. The forward group needs a shake-up.
  6. He'll draw in the lineup sooner or later, and boy I would not want to be a player on the opposing team when he does.
  7. I thought it was Gaunce centering the 4th and Bo on the 3rd between Baertschi and Virtanen?
  8. You sound like you're eagerly anticipating his failure.
  9. Guess some things never change, like CDC putting outrageous expectations on a 19 year old and sharpening their pitchforks ready in the case that he doesn't dominate the pros as a 20 year old next year. Settle down, he's a teenager making millions of dollars playing for his hometown team which he grew up idealizing btw. Even if he goes to Utica next year, if he can put up 0.4-0.5ppg you all should be happy. I wouldn't mind giving him 2 years in Utica before bringing him slowly back up to the NHL. He'll be worth it. He's never going to be an offensive dynamo. Just accept it and move on. He's going to be a player that compliments his line with his speed and size and ability to create room. He'll make his line better that way. Like Kreider. Everyone is wishing we would trade for him, but he's not an offensive juggernaut either. He's the beneficiary. If Virtanen can produce 50 points in his prime he's a helluva a draft pick. By the way, in case y'all didn't know, his prime years are his mid 20s to early 30s. Which means he's about 5 years away so aim your anger and frustration elsewhere instead of contributing to the negativity that follows all these prospects everywhere.
  10. Is the minus button back?????

No idea! But man CDC just got a whole lot more hostile

  11. Sure but to be a #1 you don't need to be as big of an offensive juggernaut as those guys. Weber, Suter, Chara etc. are all #1 dmen (or were in the case of Chara) but none of them have that offensive output. I think your definition of what a true #1 looks like is limited. Also, what do you mean he played more than just those 13? Those are the 13 that "count" and I say that very loosely because they don't count for much other than to give the Tryamkin (and the fans) a taste of what is yet to come.
  12. He played all of 13 games in a new league in a different country in a different part of the world on a team that was one of the worst this franchise has ever seen. How can you tell that he doesn't have the offensive ability to be a #1? I'm not saying he will be, and I'm not expecting him to be a #1 but sky's the limit with this kid. As long as he is reliable defensively he is a monster and you can bet he will get 20+ mins a night due to his shutdown ability. From the highlights he looks like he has some decent offensive upside with a booming shot, so I'm not ruling out #1 so quick. I'm just excited to watch him play, no expectations no limitations.
  13. Should Hutton be in the race for the Calder trophy? He finished the season playing top 4 mins and for an extended period of time he had to play on the top pairing and was relatively effective. His point totals aren't as great as Gostisbehere so maybe he doesn't win but imo he should be top 5 for the calder.

it depends on points for this award. so no. Not that he isn't a great d for us cause he is and thats all that matters. not some reward.

@DoughtysCheck, someone give the OIlers Gillis' resume.

  14. Had to google it first but is Finnegan's law the same as Finagle's law? Cuz if so you're right...
  15. I hope you're right Elvis. Redemption 45 years later would be pretty sweet
  16. Pedan is waiver eligible next year. Doubt he clears.
  17. Put Larsen in for Biega. Pedan and Biega are 7 and 8. That would be my guess, if anything just to avoid losing Larsen on waivers and avoid another Frankie Corrado overreaction from the media and fans.
  18. Exactly. Although I think the competition will be more between Larsen and Stecher. Subban might have a harder time keeping up with the 2. He could use another year in the A, but I see him making a really good run at it in 2017-2018.
  19. That made Larsen a little redundant. Good internal competition to see who get's the #6 spot and 2nd pp time. Stetcher might have to spend some time in the A first. Wonder what Subban makes of this
  20. I was 2 when Shane Doan first came into the league so I don't remember what he was like then but according to my math Doan was also 19 in his first NHL season. I wonder if he was a leader then or if there were any expectations set on him. I'll never understand any criticism on a teenager playing in the NHL. Criticism implies expectations, and that's where you're wrong. You should never put any expectations on a player before they hit 22/23. Even if McDavid was on this team I would not put any expectations. The only thing I want Virtanen and McCann to do is to absorb the copious amount of info thrown their way and soak it in as much as possible.
  21. I didn't want to read through the last few pages but this thread seems to have become very active once again this past little while. Are people actually upset that Jake couldn't keep up taking over games and setting the tone single-handedly for the rest of the year as a 19 year old?
  22. Only physical Dman we can get through free agency which comes to mind is Luke Schenn. I'm not sure he'd be an upgrade over Larsen defensively, then again I haven't seen Larsen play. I disagree with the vets comment however, the kids are young and learning you have to give them time to learn the game together. We still have the Sedins, Burrows, Sutter, Horvat who I think of now as a vet, and on the backend we have Edler, and Tanev carrying the load, so I don't see the point in getting any young players off the team aside from McCann who could use some development time in the AHL.
