[Trade] Canucks Trade Luongo to the Panthers
Bissurnette replied to Alex the Great's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
What? WHAT!?!?!? -
It was completely stupid by Torts to start Lack over Luongo. The fans shouldn't boo Lack but that doesn't dismiss Torts' choice. To everyone arguing that Lack stole the net from Luongo because he was playing better, please... Luongo has been lights out this season. He played amazing hockey all year long and yet Lack still got the start to the only Heritage Classic the Canucks have played in (ever?). It's emabarassing how we treat our star players. I don't say this often but I completely agree with what Don Cherry said at the first intermission.
-
Uh-Oh Lack starting... hmm could be interesting, the aftermath could be hella bad
-
well it accomplishes a change. I don't agree with what he said just for the lack of good GMs out there, but i do think Gillis has to go nonetheless. I think it would be best to wait until the summer. I don't think Gilman should be his replacement tho. I don't think enough changes would happen if he's at the helm. He's emotionally attached to these guys too. I think someone brand new with a fresh different outlook on the game would be best. Hopefully we'll find someone like that around in the offseason.
-
We needed Hamhuis to bury his golden chances, I though he had an abysmal game with lots of giveaways and missed opportunities. We also need Burrows and Daniel to step it up already. We need these things badly.
-
At least we can take some positives out of this one tho. I didn't mind this loss as much as the previous ones because the team showed some heart and their compete level and energy was right up there with the Jets for the most part. This is saying a lot because the Jets have been reborn with Maurice at the helm and they've been playing great hockey. The bright spots are definitely Kesler and Lack. Believe it or not I though Booth played a good game too. He was skating really well, wasn't being lazy at all and he was throwing his body around a lot, I counted about 5 or 6 hits. He was also creating some scoring chances. I though Lain and Schroeder showed lots of hustle too. I think if Lain keeps up this energy and compete level in a game he could be scary for his size.
-
some fan threw his/her jersey on the ice... I was embarrassed. This is not the Oilers. We haven't been last in the league for years for this behaviour.
-
That's exactly my whole point man. I know Stanton is more effective 5 on 5 and on the penalty kill, and when the scoring slump is over I'd definitely prefer him over Weber in the lineup. But right now since teams are scoring a lot against us anways (it's 1 or 2 goals a game), then we don't need more backup on defence. What we need is more offence, and if Weber with all his defensive shortcomings is going to give us a better chance for a goal here and there then all I'm saying is I'd play him over Stanton for the next couple of games.
-
Dude I'm not as tunnel visioned to just look at numbers and say this player is better than that player in this situation because of this number. I can dig up numbers too and tell you that player A is better offensively than player B because of a few more assists, but I wouldn't even be persuading myself with that argument. You still haven't answered my question, would you rather have Weber or Stanton on your pp?
-
Our powerplay scored against Calgary in a really emotional game to tie it up 2-2. And oh yeah, it was Weber who scored. Our pp is horrendous but if it's going to come through every once in a while to save a game for us, I'd feel better with Weber manning the point. Again, not taking anything away from Stanton, his overall play is better than Weber but we have lots of defensive D-men on the team already (Hamhuis, Tanev, Garrison, and sometimes Bieksa). I'm saying since we're lacking offense right now, I'd slot in Weber over Stanton. Sorry.
-
You can't honestly tell me you prefer Stanton over Weber on the powerplay...
-
who's gets benched on D? I think Weber has been playing well it'd be a shame to sit him out. I also think he might have more value to us right now than Stanton because he brings offensive upside to the table... I think Stanton might be a little redundant with this D core right now since we're looking for more offense. EDIT: Don't get me wrong I'm happy Stanton is back and I know he's a good D-man, I'm just looking at the situation we're in right now.

I couldn't be more proud of our guys and our coach. Loved it. Here's my take: Vancouver has been labelled as a soft team for years. Every club in the NHL was gladly bullying this team and these guys, and the media, the league and nobody else from the outside had a problem with it. The expectation was that Vancouver will always back down from the confrontation, and the Canucks didn't disappoint. They turned the other cheek to the point where lots of fans questioned their honor as men. The Canucks naively trusted the league to serve justice, but the NHL never came through. Now, when the Canucks push back, when they don't back down and the players fight back nobody from the outside likes it. Now the league wants to step in and do what's right to "protect the integrity of the game." To everyone saying the Canucks should've turned the other cheek yet again and started someone other than the fourth line, I ask why? Why are we always the ones expected to have the cooler heads? Why are we the ones who always have to be rational? Let me remind you that Westgarth went after Bieksa right off the faceoff. Bieksa didn't even drop his gloves. I wonder if Westgarth had started throwing punches and Bieksa didn't reciprocate, would we have gotten a 7 minute powerplay? If you take a look at the HF boards or NHL.com's comment section, you'd see all the assumptions made about Vancouver. Now all of a sudden this club is no longer a soft club, now the Canucks are goons. This team will always, ALWAYS get the short end of the stick from the league. We will always have to kill penalties for things EVERY other team gets away with, and we will ALWAYS have to kill penalties for sticking up for one another. I'm finally starting to make my peace with it, slowly. Yes he shouldn't have gone into the Flames hallway but if another coach had done I'm willing to bet that he'd probably get away with a fine. Hell if Torts had done that as a Rangers coach he'd probably merely get smacked with a fine. Let's see what the verdict will be as a Canucks coach. I'd like to thank Torts for teaching this club not to take sh*t from anyone, and I'd like to apologize to him for most likely having to be at the brunt of all of this by the league and the media because he went into the other team's hallway. - Canucks fan

General Hockey Questions
Bissurnette replied to Where's Wellwood's topic in General Hockey Discussion
This is not NHL hockey related but more personally related, but does anyone know of a private outdoor ice hockey rink that I could maybe use to just practice by myself that is within an commute (not drive) from the Vancouver area?? Note: Preferably one that gets taken care of every once in a while -
Awfully proud of our guys. It warms the cockles of my heart to see them react like this and stand up for one another. Man I kid you not, I almost had tears in my eyes at the end of the game.
-
and the second Sestito shoves Quick EVERYBODY from the Kings push him back and stand up for their goalie. GODF***#**$ DAMMIT we need players with dignity who are willing to play with men other than Sestito. FIGHT BACK FOR YOUR GOALIE!!! *@#&k!!!
-
There's NOBODY other than Sestito to do it. He's doing absolutely everything he can and working as hard as he can to line up big hits but he only gets 6 mins a night. Kassian has no more excuses left. He needs to show up. This was an emotional game that we needed his physicality in and he was no where to be found. There was a time towards the end of the 3rd period where he had Brown (FRICKING BROWN!!) lined up for a hit on the boards near our blue line and he passed on it. Disappointed beyond words in this kid. Please no more excuses.
-
To me it definitely looked like he was targeting Gagner because otherwise the gesture doesn't make sense. I like that he was doing that. We have enough nice classy guys on our team who are treated like trash by other teams, so I welcome the a**hole behaviour by the few on our team to offset it.
