Your lineup is exactly what i would pick. Right on the dot It's very difficult to leave out guys Smyl Mogilny Lumme and Linden but i just get the feeling EP and Huggy are gonna be 2 of the best Canucks of all time. Also i don't think we need to worry about line 2 getting beat up, we know Bure won't take sh** from anybody just ask Churla LOL. EP is showing alot of the same bite, he's been throwing his weight around alot more in year 2 and i think he will continue to dish it out as he gets more comfortable. Prime Bertuzzi and Prime Sedins would be absolutely unstoppable down low.

[Signing] Canucks re-sign Jake Virtanen

Aquaman should give her front row seats to each game. You'll see Jake hit 25-25 and 200+ hits Anyways 2.55 is a good value for what Jake brings even if he were to repeat last year. He's improved his pt totals every year i expect by the end of the deal he'll be a bargain. There's a few things i'm looking for this season from Jake: - Consistency - Physicality ( His hits have been dropping every year since his rookie season, not sure if it's being coached out of him or what? He's got the speed and size to obliterate guys, seems like he lets up alot.) - Go to the net! -
I still think they'll be a good team, their Defense looks solid, Shea Theodore is a star and they just added a Norris calibre stud making arguably the best pairing in the entire league. They're so deep on the wings that they got a guy like Alex Tuch on the 3rd line. However, IMO they still don't have a chance at a cup. A stud centre is a key piece of any team and they don't have any i'm not sure if it's something they can overcome. They had scoring issues and most of their top guys have peaked, some may even see regression (I'm looking at you Marchessault/Pacioretty) Honestly though, I lost a lot of respect for VGK in that series and gained a ton of respect for our boys. I don't think VGK has what it takes to win in the playoffs, look at how Demko broke them, that epic collapse vs SJ and getting their asses handed to them by Dallas. If they somehow manage to win one with that roster it would be historic as they would be the first team i can recall to win a cup with out a top centre. I for one can't recall anytime in recent history any team has won a cup without a stud C or 2 2020 Point 2019 O'Reilly/Schenn 2018 Kuzy/Backstrom 2017 Sid/Geno 2016 Sid/Geno 2015 Toews 2014 Kopitar/Carter 2013 Toews 2012 Kopitar/Carter 2011 Bergeron/Krejci 2010 Toews 2009 Sid/Geno 2008 Datsyuk/Zetterberg 2007 Getzlaf/McDonald 2006 Staal

[Signing] Maple Leafs sign Joe Thornton
Ferlands_Head replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Playoff games played does not equal playoff performer. Craig Ludwig player in 177 playoff games. It doesn’t mean he plays well in those games. He’s at about a 60 point pace in the playoffs for a guy who’s supposed to be a captain and star player. Almost a ppg in the regular season. That’s a pretty steep drop off.He certainly chokes when needed the most. -

He’s the captain of playoff choke jobs. -
They are indeed human That centre depth looks AHL worthy and they've done nothing to address it. You have William Karlsson who would be the third best C on the Canucks and then theres Stephenson? Nosek? They'll never win a cup with that roster and will continue to have issues scoring unless Glass or Krebs comes in and surprises.

I dont think Virtanen has the IQ to become a top 6 forward.
Ferlands_Head replied to apollo18's topic in Canucks Talk
I think Jake can be a great hockey player when he feels like it. He's improved every year and gotten more consistent. Here's hoping he continues that trend. In terms of being a PWF i'm not seeing it. He lacks that nastiness, a willingness to drive the net and hits about as often as Kris Letang. -
I'll never forget Tanev's Canuck debut. Comes in as a rookie Game 5 of the SCF and is immediately a calming influence solidifying our third pairing. Makes an amazing pass to Glass giving him an empty net and what should've been a sure goal. Somehow managed to remain with an even plus minus through games 5 6 and 7. He's been our best defensive D for the last 7 years, a great mentor and an absolute warrior. We will miss you Tequila! Forever a Canuck.

[Speculation] Canucks interested in Tyson Barrie
Ferlands_Head replied to brian42's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Getting Tyson Barrie is a step up imo. We couldn't even exit our zone vs VGK we need more puck movers, just having Hughes isn't enough. JB has mentioned that we need to have another defenseman that can exit the zone effectively and get the puck to forwards. Tyson Barrie checks those boxes. 33pts in 48 games post Babcock when he was actually utilized properly. The Toronto PP was much more deadly after they replaced Reilly with Barrie. We could use him on PP1 to mix things up, he's a good right handed shot option should we lose TT. He also gives us a legit quarterback for PP2 if we go for the same PP configuration. PP1 Miller- Horvat - EP Hughes-Barrie -
[Signing] Canucks sign Braden Holtby

The fiala softy in game 1 and the Schmidt softy in game 4 also come to mind for me. -

Even more impressive was how he deked out defensive legend Eriksson in the Boston clip

It was a huge opportunity for JV after Brock went down. He proceeded to get 4 points in 12 games, not even close to replacing BB's production.
-
There's nothing wrong with preferring JV's game over BB. However, he had a grand total of about 10 points playing with our star players. What makes you think that he would suddenly score at a 60pt pace?
-
Now i can tell there's some bias here. You use Jake's projected goal totals and inflate it to 25 when he was on pace for about 21 last year. Then you deflate Brock's to 25, FYI Brock's career average is 31 projected goals a year. and 68pts Jake is about 16 goals 31pts a year. while also being a year older. It's basically comparing a 65PT Player to a 30pt player and double the cap-hit is well justified too just by point totals alone.
-
I don't think the disagreement is whether or not Brock can be replaced by TT or using Brock as a piece to get a top D. The disagreement is because you think Virtanen is a superior player to BB. It's quite baffling to be honest. As i mentioned earlier. This season he's spent considerable time playing with Bo/Pearson EP/Miller and he wasn't able to take advantage of it.
-
No, he's not the same player, his goal totals may have dropped but he's developed a better all-around game, is way stronger on the puck and has definitely improved as a playmaker. I wouldn't call it regression. I can agree with you on everything else.

I was mostly illustrating the type of player that we would should consider packaging BB for. I agree though if i'm Florida i'm building around Ekblad/Barkov/Huberdeau so getting Ekblad is a long shot.
-
Ekblad is definitely somebody i would package Brock for. Having one of Ekblad/Hughes out there for 50 minutes a game will do wonders for our team.
-
I agree, of course linemates matter. That would be true most years but this season Jake played a decent amount with guys like Horvat/Pearson and EP/Miller and didn't make a huge impact. Game 5 vs STL comes to mind but those games are few and far between unfortunately. I'm mostly disagreeing with you over the fact that you'd take Virt over BB and i'm curious as to why. He is improving year after year but i wouldn't say I'd take him over BB, not even close. I agree if we can get a #1 Dman for Brock i'd do it too. Problem with OEL is he's trending downward and comes with a huge caphit. He's also only given a 2 team list which gives us more leverage in a deal. I'm also not sure TT would put up better numbers than BB either. He's been amazing in the small 16 game sample size but he's historically been extremely streaky. Brock already surpassed TT's best season and he's only 23.
-
Jake is that you!? Offense isn't all about goals. Brock almost had as many assists as Jake did total points in 12 less games. You're saying given the same ice time and linemates Jake can score at a 65 pt pace!?? You're either seriously overrating Jake and underrating BB imo. If you've watched Jake his entire career up until now you'd know why Jake would never even sniff BB's numbers. His offensive skills (shooting, passing )is nowhere near BB and he's way too inconsistent. He had his chance to play with EP, Miller and Bo when Brock was hurt, guess what 12pts in 27 game about the same pace as usual. What makes you think he's a better player? Cause he certainly doesn't pass the eye test most nights for me.

This video would make a lot more sense if it was the 2019 draft and they were talking about Podkolzin.
