  1. Every player is different. Pavelski also had a down year couple seasons ago. Playing with couple of young stalwarts may have revived his career.
  2. I wouldn't be surprised if Boeser finds his game playing with rejuvenated Petey.
  3. Same with that Benn guy. He a true power forward getting paid 9.5 million dollars. Only 32 years old, putting up massive 46 points. Stars made a great decision there. Power forwards usually play well into mid 30's.
  4. I agree with Boeser's shot threat. But then we need someone else as net from presence, right? Their goalie is 6'5, he can just peek over Garland's head to see where the shot is coming from.
  5. Garland as the net presence on PP2? Looks like Garland and Boeser should be switched, no?
  6. The only good news is that the Sens play tonight and they have to travel up to Vancouver, which is 3-4 hour bus ride or 2-3 hours by flight counting for transportation to Seatac from Seattle downtown. So they will get in to Vancouver around 2 AM.
  7. Whichever direction they choose, some fans will be angry and some will be happy. I agree that re-signing Miller and trying to go for it may be short sighted. On the other hand, re-signing Miller and with right upgrades, we will be a playoff team under Boudreau for the next 3-4 years. It's a tough call to make. I think the management will sit down with Miller and do their best to try to re-sign him but they will have a retool on their mind as soon as he demands well beyond what we can afford. As funny as it sounds, we let Miller decide what this team is going to do: retool or going for it. One regret is that if JB was going to be fired, I wish it was before 2021 summer so that he doesn't pull off OEL + Garland trade. I've been happy with the two players so far but if we are going for a retool, I'd rather have Guenther and 2022 2nd rather than OEL and Garland. Now, we have a team that is too close to being good (a top 10 team since Boudreau took over).
  8. Binnington is not going to start the playoffs. I'd be surprised if he does. He's Andrew Raycroft: one hit wonder. But Husso gives off some serious vibes. Schenn and ROR are still capable of doing the grunt work needed to win in the playoffs. Their younger guys have stepped up big time, I see them as a dark horse (if you can call a 100+ pt team that). But yeah, their defence is a bit of a suspect. Husso will have to put up Binnington like performances for them to come out of the Central division.
  9. I think the Blues are deeper up front, their top 9 is way better than our top 9 this season. And I feel like Husso is capable of taking his team deep in the playoffs. Their defence doesn't look as good as it was in their cup year but if I have to pick a team to upset the Avs, I'd pick them.
  10. 7 games? You missed 7 years. We won 7 straight cups staring in 2022. We won the remaining 7 games to beat out LA for the third spot in 2022. That was the most epic and challenging season. We swept the Oilers (no surprise). Beat the Flames in 7. Then, beat the Avs in 7. Then we beat Luongo and his Panthers, again in 7 games. Luongo had to come out of retirement to play in goal as their goalies $hit the bed pretty bad. The other 6 cups were easy since Petey started averaging 60 goals since then and Demko averaged 940 save percentage per season. You can look up the rest on Bing. Yes, Bing has finally overtaken Google as the most used search engine.
  11. Not attitude, just reality. Very rarely you get a 19 year old Miller, 23 year old Beagle, 22 year old Seabrook and 1st rounder that pans out in one trade. The prospect of such event transpiring, no matter the odds, is why you make these trades. But I can't remember one trade where you get a top 6 forward, top 3RD, elite 4th line center, and a 1st rounder.
  12. With Petey back on track, it makes more sense to keep Miller and go for playoffs next season under Boudreau. Combined with upgrades on D and wing, I bet we will end up with 110 points.
  13. The reality is that only one, or at most two of those guys will pan out to become who they are projected to be. All we end up with could just be a 23 year old Beagle from Miller trade. I think the safest route forward is to sit down with Miller and try to work out a deal that will work for both sides. If that doesn't work, then yeah we go for as many magic beans as possible. Hopefully the amateur and pro scouting departments have been working hard.
  14. We need more wingers that are good along the boards. With Miller shifting to center, Podz, Pearson, and Boeser are the wingers that are good along the boards while Garland, Hogs, and Petey aren't so good along the boards. Petey is not too bad as he rarely gets trapped along the boards using his hockey IQ to avoid getting into a tough situation in the first place. If we are trading Boeser, we need a replacement and the replacement better not be a soft player like Nylander. In the playoffs, the series is won along the boards. And that's probably why Toronto has failed to get out of the first round.
  15. Idea is that you need a strong amateur and pro scouting department to know which players to target from junior and AHL. Then, you drastically increase your chance of the magic bean turning into something.
  16. Maybe not 21-23 year established RHD but 18-20 old who hasn't established himself yet but showing good signs of developing into a good top 4RD? That's still possible. In fact those trades could transpire for a player less than Miller. Example: Cernak + Budaj + low picks for Bishop + 5th. Cernak was 20 years old at the time, just finished a season in the OHL. You are right that no team is going to give up an established RHD under 23 for Miller though. So guys like Noah Dobson, probably not gonna happen.
  17. If it's 8 mil x 6, the Canucks will re-sign him knowing that the last 2 years of the deal will likely suck. 8 mil for 70 point centerman that hits and plays the power forward game is a good deal. If it's a 70 point player that plays finesse game and is soft, then they'd not be worth 8 mil. Bigger concern is that he may drop off to being more of a 50-60 point guy as early as in 2, 3 years without playing physically. Unlikely but it's possible.
  18. And Seattle decided not to pick him... Seattle Krakens is what happens when you prioritize cap space over a 40 goal scorer. And they could've still signed Schwartz as a UFA.
  19. He has been PPG under Boudreau. The fact of the matter is that everyone struggled under Green. It was the system and less than 100% wrist that held him back. Now Petey is light on his skates and deceptively quick. I'd say he will hit 35 goals next season and 80+ points.
  20. Don't leave Pettersson out. He is on pace to score 30 goals, a new career high. He has been on a PPG pace since Bruce took over.
  21. To add, LE was never a play driver like Miller. He was great around the net and scored a lot of garbage goals as a result. Going to the net means you have to take punishments and as he aged and once he got the retirement deal from the Canucks, he wasn't as motivated to take those punishments and stopped doing one thing that made him successful. Miller is a play driver and doesn't depend on having to go to the net to be effective. I'd say re-sign Miller unless his contract demands are unreasonable.
  22. Valid point. Hopefully his agent will be able to inform him of the pros and cons of going after money. Karlsson example from @mll is a good one. I'd add Tavares example although it's a vastly different case from Karlsson because Tavares went to a young and up and coming team whereas Karlsson went to join a team on its tail end of a run. I still think that had the Maple Leafs reserved that 11 mil for better depth, they'd be right up there with the Florida Panthers and Colorado Avalanche. They should have kept Kadri who was an excellent 2C and a low-end 1C already at that time as he was coming off two consecutive 30 goals seasons. He wasn't a soft player who disappears in the playoffs either. Then, Tavares came and Kadri's production was halved in a 3C role. They would have had enough money to upgrade the bottom 6 and defense with the money left over even after paying Kadri his salary. Miller should know that even if he joins a playoff team, there is a risk that whichever team he goes to may not have the cap space to build the depth needed to win the cup. If he prioritizes an opportunity to win the cup with him being one of the main drivers, then he doesn't and will not have many options. In fact, re-signing with the Canucks may offer the best opportunity. He already knows the young players in this team are on the verge of breaking out (Petey, Podz, Hughes) and should be encouraged by the team's play since Bruce took over to know that there is a chance to win here in the next 5 years or so -- but only if his cap hit isn't too crazy.
  23. So no source. If he's asking for 10 and he doesn't budge? The decision is easy: we trade him. Allvin's priority is to get a deal done if possible but he should know very well that 10 mil for a 30+ year old star is not something that any team can absorb.
