  1. Fair deal. Honestly, Barkov > Matthews. I was looking at TSN top 50, and there's no way that Matthews should be #3 on that list. He isn't better than Kucherov, Vasileyvsky, Hedman, Barkov, and on and on. Matthews is a great goal scorer but not a top 3 player in the game.
  2. lol I was thinking why is WD shaking his head? His team just scored... Then, realized that must have been when he was the coach of the Canucks.
  3. Didn't get to watch the entire game but Podkolzin seems to be coming along nicely. He looked good alongside Miller. Petan also might be able to carve out a role on that line. Petey and Huggy make this team much more enjoyable to watch. Solid performance by Halak. Can't wait for the season to start.
  4. We are an offence first team. Demko will need to be the MVP for us if we want to reach the playoffs.
  5. It sucks but it looks like OJ didn't make the team. Green lost Gadjovich and now the same thing could happen with OJ. Well, it's only his job that he's putting on the line with these poor moves.
  6. Wow, that is surprising. I guess it's the quality of the players that he drafted. I mean all of those players are either a super star caliber player (EP, Hughes), 1st line player (Boeser and yes, even McCann, in Seattle he is a 1C lol), a starting goalie, or a top 6 and may be on trajectory to become a first line player (Hoglander). Aside from Podkolzin and OJ, we probably need few of those picks from the later rounds to pan out to have success moving forward, like Jett Woo, Gad, Rathbone, MDP, Lockwood, and etc.
  7. Yeah, it's rindiculous. No analysis, just saying OEL is a blah blah blah. The guy probably didn't even watch one preseason period featuring OEL, let alone a game. It's so easy to be a writer these days. No research or hard work is needed. Doing the simple thing of just watching the games and tracking the players isn't even required. Just write what other people are saying and done.
  8. Yeah it sure does look like that. I hope OJ makes it but then I was hoping Gadj makes it and he got cut so maybe I shouldn't hope.
  9. Well, they better score 4-5 goals a night or we might get off to a terrible start. There will be a lot of penalties to start the season just like when they decided to crack down on slashing.
  10. He will be canned mid season if things don't go well. JB needs to save his job and coaching change is one move that he has left. I think we will see how things go but PK could be Green's downfall. Honestly, Seattle doesn't have impressive PP personnel and yet they were creating so many chances. So many through the seam passes. Sure, it's just preseason and the sticks are not where they are supposed to be blocking the passing lanes but it is a cause for concern. All that offensive firepower but no PK personnel. And the new crackdown on cross checking is going to result in increased PPs to begin the season for sure.
  11. Who kills the penalty? Miller is good. Dickinson should be a good PKer. Pearson is a decent PKer. Horvat isn't a great PKer. Will suffice when short staffed but not ideal to be used in a PK role. Petan can't kill. Lockwood has potential although I'm not sure if he's ready to be our primary PKer. Highmore? Not impressed with him so far. Just moves around a lot without achieving much of anything. Without Motte and Sutter, we are short two quality PKers. I'd say Green better have a plan to replace Motte and Sutter because early on in the season, you know the refs are going to call every one of those dumb cross checks.
  12. If there are two teams that are pillar opposites, it's the Canucks and the Krakens. Their team defence was very sound although we weren't icing the full team. We have some impressive offensive guys up front and on the back end. But not too many defensive stalwarts. Petey and Quinn better live up to their contracts and put up some massive offensive numbers. Otherwise, this could be a long season.
  13. Agree. We voluntarily give up a shooting lane when the winger is coming off the boards but I don't like that. It usually leads to mad scrambles in front of the net for rebounds.
  14. Podz with some nice playmaking. Revving up for the regular season. Couple more games and he should be ready to start the season on the NHL. I'm a little worried about the PK. Motte and Sutter are two of our best PKers and I'm not totally impressed by any of the guys that are auditioning for the roles vacated by these two veterans.
  15. The refs would pick and choose so that it doesn't go over 1 or 2 per game anyways. You severely underestimate the NHL refs' ability to be blind to obvious calls.
  16. Don't think it's going to be that bad. Schenn normally wouldn't be able to handle as much 5-on-5 minutes but with Hughes on the ice driving possession it should be OK. Simpler said than done but Schenn just needs to be ready when the puck's turned over and there is a counter attack.
  17. Juolevi-Schenn would be too slow and will get beat wide all night long. I'd go with Hughes-Schenn. With Hughes mobility, Schenn just needs to be the stay at home defenceman that he is. OEL-Poolman Hughes-Schenn OJ-Myers is what I'd start with.
  18. Canucks have the most with 3. Leafs, Sens, Habs, Canes, and Avs each have 2. Little surprising that EP is #3 behind McDavid and Matthews. I would have thought Fox (Norris winner) and Makar (Calder winner and Norris runner-up) could have been placed higher than EP. There usually is a bit of a bias towards forward with these rankings. Anyhow, good to see this sort of ranking from non-Canuck media.
  19. Or he already made the team and so he is just playing guys that needs more looks? Well, I hope Gadjovich makes the team.
  20. Basically 2 roster players in Poolman and Motte and 2 near NHL prospects in Rathbone and DiPietro. And, Poolman is a RHD, so we are giving up a RHD to get another RHD so we are back to where we were, short one quality RHD. Don't really know much about John Marino and the goalie prospect but I love the trade... for the Penguins. They need all the help they can get to make another run while Crosby and Malkin are still playing at high levels.
  21. I think Garland should be given the opportunity to play alongside EP in the next few preseason games to see if there is a fit there.
  22. Garland as 1LW if Miller is 3C. Miller's strength is that he plays well with anyone. We can even try Dickinson on wing and have someone else center the 4th line. Garland-EP-Boeser Pearson-Horvat-Hoglander Dickinson-Miller-Podkolzin 4th line: 3 of Lockwood Gadjovich Highmore Chiasson until Sutter and Motte are back.
  23. Was at the game. I was impressed with OEL. He was smooth and very poised with the puck. I think he is going to regain his form here. Poolman was also very solid defensively and made the right plays. Rathbone has high ceiling because he's very confident with the puck but needs to work on his defensive game and round out other areas of his game before he makes the NHL. I see him in the AHL to start. OEL-Poolman Hughes-Hamonic (if ready) OJ-Myers Hunt-Schenn If Hamonic isn't ready to go, Schenn draws in. Podkolzin was more noticeable in this game. I think as he gains confidence, he should be a great player for us. But man, I was impressed with Hoglander. This guy really will be Brad Marchand 2.0 (minus the antics). Pearson-Horvat-Hoglander looked really good. Garland showed his skill but he didn't play with strong enough linemates to keep the play going. Perhaps Garland-EP-Boeser is the line that should be tried out in the preseason.
  24. It's not Myers, it's Benning that they hate. They want to discredit anything Benning did and well, Myers is a JB signing. "Myers is overpaid" argument is really annoying. Sure, let's say he is overpaid. But like by one million dollars? And he was a UFA so you had to overpay a bit to get him. On top of getting 30 points, he plays 20+ minutes and plays in all situations. Getting really tired of Myers hate here.
