  1. Yeah I agree. Can't hit a homerun on every at bat. I still don't want Tkachuk but I thought just doing the simple thing and picking Chychrun, who was highly touted, would have been a good decision. Lesson is to not put all your eggs on one tournament (in this case WJHC).
  2. They wouldn't have had a goalie in 94. I'm sure Lindros and Messier would have had many conflicts. The cup would've been ours had the deal gone through with NYR.
  3. Absolutely. COVID is not going away, the only viable option is co-existence with COVID. The remaining 10% or so that decide not to get vaccinated are making a life choice. I don't blame them they may be really afraid of the side effects; some people are paranoid about this sort of thing.
  4. I'm glad to see that the numbers are more or less inline with the national average. As long as we can get 80-90% people vaccinated we should be able to go back to normal life maybe as soon as next eyar, choosing to live "with COVID" as the Brits are doing now.
  5. At this point, JB shouldn't budge. I'm sure QH's agent convinced EP to join their agency to double the leverage and hence maximize their earnings. And it seems like they are having trouble living up to this promise with Canucks standing firm on what they would offer. I'd say these kids need to grow up, step in and say enough is enough and instruct the agents to sign a bridge deal. Like Boeser did. If they choose to let this prolong into the season, I think it's time to consider trade either one or both of them. Explore the market for both of these players. I'd say if we must trade one, I'd consider trading QH first. 1. We have a PP QB in OEL that can replace QH. Rathbone may also be ready to eat up 5-on-5 minutes vacated by Hughes. 2. We have a natural trade partner in NJ, who wants to re-unite the Hughes's. NJ has accumulated impressive list of prospects and maybe we can get an RD back in a return package (maybe Severson?). 3. EP is already a complete player whereas Hughes has room to improve. Then, sign EP to a long term deal 8 year 9.5 mil. OEL-Poolman Rathbone-Severson Juolevi-Myers
  6. Probably. He was doing fine in Finland, wasn't he? Either way, it doesn't help us. I guess we will have to take some misses (OJ, JV) along with some great hits (EP, Boeser, Hughes). And unlike JV, OJ's career was derailed by injuries, which is very unfortunate for us. Considering how well Chychrun is doing, it is painful to accept. I wonder why Chychrun slipped so much. He was touted very highly up until the draft and for whatever reason he fell.
  7. At this rate, OJ may very well end up as the worst 5th overall pick in a modern era, possibly even worse than Dal Colle. Having said that, his injuries did prevent him from making progress in his career. At this point, I'm just hoping that he becomes a serviceable bottom pairing defender.
  8. Sounds like a lot of work. More like a PhD thesis that could lead to various projects taking that person to a tenured professorship at a university.
  9. This is true. Hard no on Rielly, well unless what we want is 1st round exit.
  10. Benning isn't going to give 11 mil to Petey. Dubas is screwed since the cap ain't going up by much for the next little while. Another 1st round exit and they are going to realize that they need to trade one of the big 4.
  11. He's probably 6'1. If he's 6'4 and 203 pounds, he would look lanky. He looked stocky to me.
  12. Just watched Garland and OEL's presser. Garland sounds like a really smart guy, well-spoken, and seems really motivated. I think we got a great player in Garland and role model for a guy like Hoglander, who is undersized but goes to the hard areas and plays with grit. LW: Miller-Pearson-Hoglander-Motte/Highmore RW: Boeser-Garland-Podkolzin-MacEwen/Lockwood This is some crazy depth on both wings. Once EP re-signs center depth is going to be awesome. C: EP-Horvat-Dickinson-Sutter Can't wait for the season to start.
  13. Eichel is a good comparison, I agree that Petey's agent can even make a case that Petey is better than Eichel. But then, JB can always find other counter examples, like Point and Barzal and just point out the fact that Canucks don't operate like that dumpster fire Buffalo Sabres organization. A fair long term deal for Petey is probably around 9-10 mil given that comparison and considering what Makar signed for. But Canucks are not in a position to throw that type of money around, especially if the goal is to win. Either Petey stays true to his words that he wants to win by instructing his agent that he will take a bridge deal like other equally good comparables like Point, Barzal did or... or he pulls a Matthews or Eichel and asks for 10+ mil on an 8 year deal. Canucks might as well trade him if that's what Petey wants because we aren't winning with a 10 mil player on the roster, let alone the fact that it leaves no room to fit in Hughes. The market is a bit crazy. As good as some of these young RFA players are, I think the only players that can get 10+ mil are UFAs who have years of delivering as a #1 scoring option (Tavares, Ovechkin), or RFAs that have delivered a cup (Toewes, Kane, Kopitar, Point) and special players like McDavid and Matthews (I cringe as I put Matthews in the same category as McDavid but he is an elite goal scorer). Unfortunately, Petey doesn't fit into any of the three categories. So, he should get a 3-year bridge deal, show us that he belongs in one or even better, all three categories by winning a cup and winning Hart or Selke or Art Ross or Conn Smythe. If he does win us a cup, I'm sure no one is going to complain if we pay him 11+ mil.
  14. 8 years at 10-11 mil would be what Petey would get if he were a UFA. Toronto was an abnormality because they screwed up their internal cap structure by signing Tavares to 11 +mil contract and it didn't make sense to not pay Matthews and then obviously Marner who had even better season than Matthews. What's the point of having an RFA status? The only leverage Petey has is an offersheet or sitting out. Sitting out is going to be detrimental to both sides. Given how aggressive this fanbase is, Petey might as well be traded if he pulls a Nylander because he may get boo'd and player-fan relationship may not be salvagable. Given that Petey is an RFA, 7 or 8 year deal should come in at around Makar's money. That way the team benefits by saving few million dollars down the road and Petey gets security. But I still prefer Petey to sign a bridge deal. Go put up amazing seasons and/or win us a cup (or get us close) and then ask what you are worth for what you've done 3 years later. Take Brayden Point for example. Signed a bridge deal, went out and helped the Bolts get 2 cups where he was arguably their best player on many of the important games. Now he gets paid 9.5 mil, which is equivalent to 11 mil in other markets. As for Hughes, I think an 8-year long term deal is fine if it's below 7.5 mil or at most 8. Having both QH and EP to 3 year bridge deals might result in having to pay both of them 10+ mils down the road and we all know what happened in Chicago once Kane and Toewes started getting paid. I think JB is doing well to hold out for good value contract. This shows that he knows that we have a window to win in the next few seasons and that it's critical to bring all the guys in at good cap values.
  15. Actually, I'm curious to see what that defence can do. OEL can replace Hughes on #1PP. Rathbone can QB #2PP. At even strength, OEL and Rathbone can both move the puck and should make their life easier on the defensive side, supported by good defensive partners in Poolman and Hamonic. I think Petey will be harder to replace with his presence on the PP and the first line.
  16. Nice lineup. Goes to show that we have pretty good depth this year and Petey and Huggy are going to miss out on a chance to win if they enjoy the Michigan too much (or let the agents whisper too much false hope). Here's mine. Hoglander-Miller-Boeser Pearson-Horvat-Garland Highmore-Dickinson-Podkolzin Di Giuseppe-Sutter-Lockwood OEL-Poolman Rathbone-Hamonic OJ-Myers Demko Halak Petey and Q can't let these agents take control. They have to step in and instruct the agents that they must be signed by the opening of the camp.
  17. Petey 8 x 9. Do it Petey. Huggy 3 x 7. Do it Huggy.
  18. Sign both to 3 year bridge deals, if they go on to win a cup for us or at least get us close, that's when we talk about 10 mil deals. If they win us our first cup in 50+ years, 10+ mil offer should definitely be tendered and I don't think any fan is going to complain even if their salaries cripple the team. Right now, the focus should be getting everyone to come in under 8 mil so that we can ice competitive roster at least for the next 3 years to find out what we have is enough to get us the cup. If Petey and QH are not the guys to take us there (i.e., Monahan and Gaudreau once seemed destined to take Calgary to the promise land), we need to re-tool in 3 years anyways so we may end up trading him or shedding expensive players with cheaper and younger alternatives. I don't buy this bull$hit that if we sign them to a 3 year deal and them putting up amazing seasons in those 3 years makes it hard to keep them at a reasonable cap since they have the leverage of walking into UFA in one year. If Petey wins an Art Ross, Hart, or Selke in the next 3 years, we will very likely have been a contender in those 3 years and he should and will get paid and ditto for Hughes if he puts up 80+ points or wins Norris or whatever. Get the f*cking 3 year bridge deal done and worry about paying them that much money later when it happens. Right now, Petey is no where near Selke or Hart and the same for QH.
  19. Lately, Petey has been spending too much time on this stupid forum. We must be very interesting to him. Let's make CDC boring again. Wait that sounds awfully similar to some moronic political slogan...
  20. I believe the team will start winning starting this season and challenge for the cup. Petey and Hughes will be a big part of it and they will have so much fun in the process that they will want to be part of something special where they will be the center pieces. Like Kane and Toewes. They are still young and some of those comments are due to immaturity. Honestly, I don't know if Jack Hughes will be an elite player in this league. I haven't seen feistiness needed for a guy that size to succeed (something that Hoglander, Marchand, Garland, Gallagher, and etc all have). He will have to get it done on speed and skill but NHL is too good for that so he will need to bring an additional element, be it intelligence/creativity (i.e., Sedins) or grit/feistiness. We will see how things turn out for Luke Hughes. Haven't seen him play much. I think Quinn will be the best of the three bros and win a cup here before his bros.
  21. Good one. A person that says this is either an extreme realist or a cynical person. I find Swedes to be generally nice people, but some of them do have that cold feel where they talk about everything from a 3rd person's point of view, even when they are talking about themselves. Petey may just be saying, who knows what will happen. But I'm not arguing against you, I do agree that it was out of the left field and odd.
  22. I wouldn't let the alarm bells go off based off of one interview but yeah, it did raise an eyebrow. Couple things bothered me a bit on top of what you wrote: 1. He didn't seem to realize that he's one of the guys that has to make us a winning team. 2. Regarding that he wants to win comment, like if winning is so important, he needs to take less. Is he implying that if playing for a contender, he will gladly accept less salary but because Canucks are a losing team, he shouldn't have to? I don't expect loyalty from a 22 year old who is just entering 4th season in the league but some of those comments are bothesome.
  23. Great career. Loved him when he was calling the Canucks game. After he made the move to CBC and started doing mostly the Leafs game, didn't get to listen to him much since the Leafs are boring to watch.
  24. Ouch... But that's exactly why a fringe player would want to to play for the Sharks, if they are anything like the 2015-16 Canucks. I mean Chaput/Megna/insert name was on the first line at some point during the season. That season should be labelled experience life as Anson Carter season "play on the Sedin line" season.
  25. Oh no... they spelled his name out!!! Coyotes better be ready for Player Name because he is going to suck the energy out of the building, well if there was any left to begin with. Player Name will fit in very well with the Coyotes. They don't do much on the ice and Player Name doesn't do much when he's on the ice. Match made in heaven.
