[proposal] Oilers - Rangers blockbuster
khay replied to The_Rocket's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
You never watched them play. If you did, you wouldn't compare one of the greatest two-way duos in the history of NBA to McDavid and Draisaitl. Offensively, yes but no f*cking way McDavid comes anywhere near Jordan on the defensive side. Sure, they may get there one day but will they? I'm not so high on Evan Bouchard. He may become a serviceable top 4 but Norris caliber? Not so sure about that. -

Yeah but #1RD is probably going to help them more than a 100pt center who doesn't bring it on both ends of the ice especially since they already have a 150 pt scoring center (McDavid was projected to score 153 points in a full season). Nurse-Fox pairing will eat up 30+ minutes in the playoffs. If Klefbom ever returns to health and/or Bouchard and Broberg develops well, they will a top 4D that can contend. Getting scoring help and bottom 6 depth up front is relatively easier than getting a #1RD who already has a Norris under his belt. -

Edmonton is lacking good depth and their goaltending is a suspect so one player is not going to fix their problem but I think Edmonton wins the trade. The recent trend seems to indicate that you need a superstar two way beast of a forward (Selke calibre) + two way Norris caliber defenceman + depth wins the cup. Getting Fox gets them a Norris winner, adding to Hart winner. IMO, McDavid's commitment to play defence needs to reach Crosby's level even if he sacrifices some of his offence to do so. -
Yeah but if Stamkos is shooting with a full wind up, I can't say that you or I won't do the same. But you and I don't get paid 7 million dollars, yes he is a coward. So glad we didn't draft him

You mean as good as he who must not be named? You can't be serious!!! How dare you put a scrub like Marner on the same sentence as Player Name?

Elias Pettersson | Quinn Hughes - Contract Discussion Thread

Got it, makes total sense. Yeah I totally missed the context. I agree, Myers would be the guy to go if we needed to find space to re-sign Boes, JT, and Bo. If Woo progresses or we find a cheaper RD alternative, trading Myers will very much be an option. -

Take those 3 out and you still have 10 players at or below 25 and 3 players at 26. It's not about the age. It's the superstars that can constantly win the match up games followed by superior depth that also wins against their match ups more often than not. I think we've got the depth now and all we need is the stars to take another step forward + coach that knows how to win in the playoffs. Green is growing and becoming better so hopefully he's the guy that gets us there... -

Chicago Blackhawks of 2010 says hi: https://www.hockey-reference.com/teams/CHI/2010.html. 20-25: Toewes, Kane, Hjalmarsson, Skille, Bolland, Versteeg, Barker, Bickell, Ladd, Brouwer, Seabrook, Byfuglien, Craford. 26: Eager, Niemi, Keith. -

And back-to-back Stanley cups... hard to beat that. Yes, the team was stacked but Point was possibly the best player on that team, on par, maybe even ahead of Kucherov. Hate to admit it but Petey isn't close to Point. Point's 9.5 mil in TB is probably equivalent to 11 mil in other cities. -

If Podkolzin really can replace Miller on the 1st line season after next, we should do what Tampa did with Miller. Trade him for a first rounder (+ prospect since Miller's value has gone up since) in the off season, then flip the first for a value player that fills the role (i.e., Blake Coleman). But this might be hard to pull off. As EP, QH, Pod, Hog, and even Boeser will get better in the next little while and we could seriously contend for the cup. We should keep Miller for the playoff run even if it means losing him for nothing in the free agency. And who knows? He might sign at a discount to play here. He might do that if he likes the team and the role that he is given. Or we could even dump another contract, say Myers and find a way to re-sign all of Miller, Horvat, and Boeser. As it stands, each of them will need about 1.5-2.5 mil increase in their next contracts so that adds up to about 6 mil = Myers salary. Luongo's cap recapture comes off as well and that's gotta help somehow too. -
Yes. Marner at 7.4 is a huge bargain. Our cap structure gets settled for the next n years (where n is the number of years left on Marner's deal). Put Miller on center and Marner at wing. Marner has produced 90+ points before and it is very likely that he will continue to do so. Besides, he kills penalties if I'm not mistaken and is defensively aware (unlike Matthews). But can Toronto sign EP? Likely 9 mil contract after taking up 3.5 mil of Marner's cap?

If Poolman at 2.5 mil is the worst paid contract, there's no problem. Myers at 6 is nothing like Player Name at 6. Myers is playing about 20 minutes a game and scoring 20+ points without any PP time. I don't think we have any dead cap now. -

Don't worry, the preseason is just around the corner, there will be plenty to talk about. -
Well, OEL had two teams on his trade list: Vancouver and Boston. So you are right, they were dealing with an extremely small market. Arizona certainly did well. Arizona took on 12 mil of cap basically for a #9 overall. Since they had no use for cap space as they are rebuilding and having forfeited their own pick, the trade was a win for Arizona. OEL wasn't giving it his all in Arizona so they had to get rid of him but with such limited market and OEL's perceived value being so low due in part to that contract, they traded a young top 6 forward in Garland to "dump" OEL and got very little in return, just a 2nd rounder and lower round picks. If the market for OEL was expanded, and given that OEL is still putting up points at a high rate, I don't think Arizona would have had trouble trading him without having to include Garland in a deal. Offensive defenceman that can put up 40+ points are still desirable. So they lost a type of player that's valued around the NHL in Garland in the process. But they got rid of OEL and his contract, allowing a complete rebuild to take place, so I'd say that's a win for them. From Vancouver's perspectives, OEL may not be a #1D that he used to be but he is still putting up points at a high rate. His cap hit of 7+ mil is probably only a bit higher than what a 40+ point dman makes around the league. And if OEL does up his defensive game, this trade is a win for Vancouver as well. Canucks freed up 6 mil cap space from Edler, and by paying only a buck and a change more, they got a player that is capable of being at least as solid defensively as Edler while putting up 40+ points. Not only that, Canucks strengthened their scoring in the process by adding Garland. This trade could be a huge win for the Canucks depending on OEL. The Canucks may eventually end up losing this trade if that #9OA pick turns out to be a stud for Arizona and if OEL's game falters. Kind of a high risk, high reward move for the Canucks but at least for the short term, this move should help us to make the playoffs.

Considering that JR and OJ have had NHL game experiences, their ranking in the top 3 makes sense. The fact that Pod is #1 over JR and OJ just goes to show how much potential he has. MDP is pretty close so him at #4 also makes sense. It's pleasantly surprising that Aidan McDonough is ahead of guys like Lockwood or even Gadjovich who's had NHL action under their belts. Admittedly, I don't know him well but it's nice to know that we have another potential middle 6 forward drafted in the lower rounds. Lockwood at #10 seems a bit low. I thought he had NHL speed and forechecking to make it. I would even put Lockwood ahead of Gadjovich. I think Lockwood might make the roster out of the training camp. With the guys in the top 3 + Lockwood graduating this season, our prospect pool is indeed going to be very thin, especially defence.

[Rumour] Senators Brady Tkachuk offer 64 m 8 year contract.

Agree in full. Even Toffoli, I'd argue that JB made up for it by getting (younger) Garland. -

Petey at 8 mil seems a bit low from EP's view as he is likely to become 10 mil player in a few seasons. But Petey at 10 mil is too much for the Canucks to pay at the moment. On a long term 8 year deal, I think EP should be considered to be on the same echelon as Cale Makar and a fair deal for a long term is 9 mil per year. But even 9 mil feels it's little too much for the Canucks right now. Best deal for the Canucks is a 3-year term bridge deal so that we can contend during those years. Maybe win a cup like Toewes and Kane did in Chicago or at the least, go to the WCF. We've got the depth to challenge for the cup once EP and QH hits their strides and as Hog and Podz looking like serious playoff players. If EP wants to win, bridge deal is what he should sign. But as CDC resident psychologist @Timråfan pointed out, EP doesn't want to do the team any favour, even if it means the team is not going to win if he signs that back breaking 9, 10 mil contract. And since JB is ruthless (as he has ruthlessly kicked off Dahlen, Stecher, Markstrom, Tanev, and Toffoli off of the team), I think JB doesn't budge and get him on a bridge deal. At this point, I don't see EP pulling a Nylander, if he did, I wouldn't mind trading him off of the team despite him being my favourite Canuck at the moment. -
Which players forced Bettman and the NHL to change the rules for All-star selection? I'd say John Scott and Rory Fitzpatrick deserved to get in to HOF together for their contribution to the game.

[Signing] Canucks sign Tucker Poolman
khay replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
OEL is going to thrive in Green's system. And Poolman will be a perfect partner for him. Our LD has a lot of skill (QH, OEL, OJ/JR) and RD is made up of hockey players with solid defensive fundamentals + good size to complement the skillful LDs. -
Monahan: It's proven that he can't be the core piece of a contender. He can score 30 goals (but doesn't do other things that are required for an elite center) so he will be a great 2nd line center on a team that already has core pieces in place. 1st: Flames aren't a great team but that pick will likely be a mid round pick. Andersson: Serviceable defender but not a top 3D (my opinion). Eichel: Franchise player when healthy. In the NHL game, maybe. Don't think this happens in real life.

Jersey retirement is based on contribution to the team. Linden was well deserving of the jersey retirement. HOF is based on contribution to the game of hockey combined with individual accomplishments that separated the player from the his peers. Linden is probably not HOF worthy. Sedins are probably going to make it though. They made great contributions to the game. They took the cycle game to another level and invented many creative plays during their careers. They were cerebral players who played at an elite level despite not being gifted with physical attributes. They have enough individual accomplishments: MVPs, Art Rosses, President's trophy, a cup appearance, all while being identical twins, which is very unique. If the Sedins won a cup, they would be a shoe in; without a cup, I still think they make it in but we will see. No Canadian team has won a cup since 1993. Since 1993, Canada has had no shortage of great players play in its cities and yet, none of those great players could win a cup for their team. I feel like holding a player out of HOF because they didn't win a cup doesn't make much sense especially if that player played his entire career for a Canadian team. Sedins should get in.

No no, I think you deserve all the credit in the world. Not many people understand psychology like you do. I would dare not say I can read into Petey's mind but you! So much confidence in yourself to claim that you know exactly what Petey is thinking. I admire your understanding of psychology and that confidence in your abilities. Bravo. -
