  1. I don't think many people here get what you are talking about. Your claim: JB didn't treat other players well. Therefore, Petey doesn't feel like he needs to do Canucks any favor by giving a hometown discount or whatever that could benefit the Canucks. Rest of the people here: Petey is a professional and is advised by best agents in the business, therefore, he will sign once a fair contract is offered.
  2. No one is blaming him or judging him. The point is that he hasn't proven anything yet, not whether he's had a chance to do so in response to the poster that was comparing Petey to Sedins. Comparing Petey to Sedins at this point is ridiculous.
  3. Petey hasn't proven anything yet. Sedins, they proved it over their 18 year careers with their body of work on and off the ice. Petey hasn't donated 1.5 mil to BC Children's. Sedins were exemplary when it comes to charity work besides that big donation. I haven't seen or heard much regarding Petey. Besides, being a nice guy is not what we care about. We want someone that wants to win here. If Petey doesn't want to win here because of JB or Dahlen or Stecher or Tanev or Markstrom, then we should kick his stupid a$$ off the team. No one player is bigger than the team. If Petey is some entitled kid that thinks that he does or doesn't want to sign a reasonable contract because the GM didn't keep his favourite teammates, well, that doesn't sound like a guy that wants to win. That sounds like a guy that's playing hockey to spend time with his friends.
  4. If it's the Ducks or the Sabres and the compensation is the 4 first rounders, I would seriously considering letting them have Petey. 2 first rounders for the next 4 years with potential to pick in the top 5. And we could still be making the playoffs with what we have minus Petey in the weak Pacific division. Could trade one of our own first round pick to add players. And just considering the rate at which we hit on the first rounders (only OJ has failed to make it as a regular thus far), that's potentially 8 players to add to the team... the depth would be crazy and we would be able to revamp the entire defence through the draft. And by off chance that one of those picks turn out to be a #1 overall pick??? Petey is my favorite player on the team now but I'd take the 4 first rounders.
  5. This is funny. It's not the norm for players to give team friendly deals. The players are almost always trying to maximize their values and no moron is giving a team friendly deal because of a GM. They may give a team friendly deal in return for things like NMC + their desire to win (i.e., give the team extra cap space to add player). Dahlen? What's he got to do with Petey? They were teammates before, maybe still a friend but what's Petey's contract has got to do with Daheln? If Petey is refusing to sign a reasonable deal because of some unknown reasons related to Dahlen, then Petey's agent is not doing his job.
  6. I think for sure EP would fetch Eichel. Buffalo needs to move Eichel and if they get another franchise player in return, they'd do it in a heartbeat. I'm sure all the offers they are getting don't include any franchise caliber player. I wouldn't do the trade though. For one, that 10 mil contract is a bit of a problem. I don't think we've seen the best of EP (although the same can be said for Eichel as well).
  7. Thanks.Everything makes sense now.
  8. Yes. 126 yes's vs 174 no's. Surprising...
  9. True. Not because they didn't have good defencemen. That was just their style of play under Crow. We needed a guy like who could make big saves when needed even if he's save percentage was not necessarily at an elite level.
  10. If we won that game in OT, yes, this goal would have been far more memorable. I think that was 2004, so the Flames went to the finals and should have won in game 6. We played without Bertuzzi. It's too bad that the WCE era was wasted without even getting past the second round. Mostly because we didn't have a goalie that can get the job done in the playoffs and the Moore incident. And the reinforcements were coming in the form of Sedins, Kesler, Edler, etc etc.
  11. Patrick Kane is likely to become the highest scoring American. About 300 points left, should be doable in 4-5 seasons as he isn't showing signs that he's slowing down.
  12. Not sure about that. 84.412% of 12+ have received at least one dose. 75.883% of 12+ have received both doses. Fortunately, we don't have that many anti-vax nuts in BC. I guess the question is, what proportion of the season tickets is held by 15% that didn't receive vaccine. My guess is low.
  13. Replace Pettersson with Barzal and it's still great. Is that JT Miller? I hope not. If so, we are giving up our entire first line to help NYI get over the hump... NYI line up looks good I have to say and I think with the lineup you proposed, they could get over the hump. But obviously, we gave up 2 first liners + top4D prospect. I don't know how the Canucks win any trade where we give up 1C + 1RW. Let's see... Pettersson for Barzal, 1-to-1 trade probably won't be accepted by NYI, even if we include Rathbone (since Barzal is the better player now and in the future as you have convinced me). We have Pettersson and Barzal? I guess we gave up Miller and Boeser? Don't think NYI will do that trade? You think so? Not bad. But this lineup may not make the playoffs next season. Podkolzin is not 2nd liner yet (I guess we don't know). We can switch Hog with Pod. But then, is Garland 1st liner? I like our current line up where we are deeper up front. Not going to disagree that Barzal would be a great add. But not sure if team improves by giving up two 1st liners + not clear how a new franchise player (Barzal) will do in new system. US citizen can enter US. Boeser is working in Canada so he can enter Canada without a problem. And come on man, no one is driving from NY to Minnesota nor from Vancouver to Minnesota. I'm sure Boeser can fly from Seattle if he wants to go to Minnesota. NY being close to Minnesota compared to Vancouver is not a strong selling point.
  14. Boeser is from Minnesota. Minnesota is very far from New York. And, if Barzal > Pettersson, how does Pettersson help NYI get over the hump? Pettersson is going to get around 7-7.5 mil in his next deal so they hardly save any cap by getting EP. The last proposal has us giving up EP, Boeser, and Rathbone? Basically two first liners and an NHL roster player with top 4 upside? Come on, I love Barzal, but I don't want to give up those pieces for him. In all your proposals, we are overpaying for Barzal. Makes us weaker and having to re-enter a rebuild. I can't say I like these proposals as a fan of the Canucks. However, if I were a NYI fan, I would consider them.
  15. Oh but EP is not like Seguin or Backstrom at all. EP is putting up points while being defensively strong. I won't be surprised if he wins a few Selke trophies when it's all said and done. As meaningless as +/- stat is, sometimes it does tell a story. He was +3, +16, and even in his career. And keep in mind, 2018-19 team was not very good. 2019-20 team was better but slightly above .500. His +16 in 2019-20 season actually quite amazing in that context. As I said, EP for Barzal trade is something that is worth consideration but at the end of the day, I think Vancouver believes that EP has higher upside than Barzal and NYI probably thinks that Barzal is better than EP now and will be better moving forward so such trade would not take place.
  16. If what you say about Barzal is true, you don't trade a better player in Barzal for an inferior player in Pettersson, just because he is two years younger. Yes, he has bigger frame but he may never fill it. EP will never be able to skate like Barzal (your words), and Barzal is still an RFA after his current contract. He has not been scoring at a PPG rate since his rookie since, so I doubt he can ask for 10+ mil on his next deal. NYI may be able to sign him to a good deal. OJ is projecting to be a #6 dman at this point, if that. Gadjovich is not ready to break into the lineup and may never will due to skating. If Barzal is truly a superior player and Pettersson doesn't have the upside to match Barzal (your words), NYI doesn't do this trade. Teams just don't give up a franchise player like Barzal for an inferior player in EP. Obviously, I think EP has the upside to surpass Barzal in some ways and hence, wouldn't do this trade.
  17. You are right, Eriksson was 30 when he signed that deal. I sometimes wonder why he fell off the cliff. It wasn't a gradual decline but a free fall for Eriksson. Complacency after earning the final contract of his playing career? He seemed to be in good shape conditioning wise; I guess he stopped doing the things that made him successful, like going to the net and potting garbage goals. As long as OEL rebounds and plays well for the next 3 years, on par with Edler on the defensive side of things and better than Edler on the offensive side of things, I am willing to accept a gradual decline in the last 3 years of his deal. I'm hoping that since Edler played so well into his mid 30's, that OEL will also be good for the next 4-5 years.
  18. I think his defensive game has been poor but offensive game has been consistently (good). This tells me that OEL's problems is unlikely to be hitting the age curve so soon. Whereas Eriksson has been poor offensively and defensively... well, let's say he's been very good at killing time. I think defence is all about being placed in a position to succeed. Edler under Torts was terrible and looked lost. I thought oh $hit this guy hit the age curve real fast, but he was only like 28 at the time... Then, Edler started to play better soon after Torts left. And just two years ago, he played some great hockey, maybe even better hockey than when he was 23 years old. OEL will need to bring more for sure but the coaches will also have to use him in the right way. I think we have the coaching staff here to do just that. I don't expect OEL to become Hedman but I think he will be good at getting the puck out of trouble and be instrumental in playing the transitional game the Canucks like to play under Green.
  19. Leafs got worse. Hyman will be missed. Who's doing the dirty on that line? And I think they are going to miss Andersen. Campbell hasn't put together a full season as a starter -- I doubt he puts one up at age 29. It sure will be interesting to watch how the media is going to pump up the Leafs.
  20. Added Eriksson, Beagle, and Roussel. Cup coming to Arizona... in 2122.
  21. Never going to get sick of watching this.
  22. Pettersson for Barzal? That's not a bad trade but would NYI do the trade when they already have a team that can reach the ECF with Barzal? Also, Pettersson has higher upside IMO. That's the thing with all of the trades you proposed: Petey has higher upside than (almost) all of the players that we are getting back in return. Any trade involving Petey could be the 2nd coming of Cam Neely trade. Give up on a player too soon and the guy dominates the league and becomes a hall of famer. I get why you are upset. But contract nego is the business side of the game so just let it slide. In fact, after making that comment, I'd say he's put more pressure on himself. If he comes back next season and doesn't improve on his previous seasons, people will start to ask questions: "I thought you wanted to play for a winner, but are you a winner? Your play on the ice has stagnated." Regarding PPG, I'd say 66/71, 66/68, 21/25 is about PPG. If you want to be technically correct, then sure, he's slightly below PPG. Don't know why you'd care about that technicality though.
  23. 100% agree. The owners do this knowing that if they ever try to sell a jersey with an ad, no one is going to buy. I hope they are not that stupid.
