  1. Let's be patient here. Don't give up too early on your franchise player who is at PPG since he entered the league. Petey's comment is not about the Canucks but about wanting to win. That's fine. He just just has to understand that he's the one that has to lead us there (along with QH, BB, BH, Miller, OEL, Hog & Pod, ...).
  2. I'd just do bridge deal for both of them. Don't like the idea of paying young players way too much money for so many years before they win anything. EP and QH haven't had a sniff of winning. Sign EP to Barzal type deal, QH to 5.5-6 x 3 years. Leave some cap space so that we can add a player (rental or not) depending on how the season goes and also leave some space for Brock, Bo, and Miller down the road. If they win something or get close to contending by the end of their contracts, we can considering rewarding them with 8 year 9+ million dollar deals.
  3. Agree but if he can't get hold of Wilson, he will go after other guys in an attempt to injure and force Wilson to oblige to a fight. Rangers will lose the game yes but at this point, Rangers and their fans want physical revenge. I just hope this doesn't turn into another Bertuzzi incident because of the league's inability to handle it properly and suspend Moore for his elbow to Naslund Wilson for reckless actions.
  4. If we are contending, re-sign him to 4 years x 6.5-7.5 mil depending on his performances. If we are not, trade him at TDL or in the offseason and recuperate some assets.
  5. Agree fully with both points, especially the second one. Petey needs to understand that it's his job as the highest player to be, to turn the team into a winner. Maybe Petey is just used playing for a winner during his time in Sweden (the Vaxjo team that won the Swedish title was a winner before he joined and so was the world championship winning team Sweden), that he doesn't quite understand what his role is.
  6. They are following the Toronto model. First round exits. The only bargain is Draisaitl. Imagine if he got paid like he deserved.
  7. Desperate Stanley Bowman, his time is running out in Chicago with almost all his moves turning into failures. He has Midas touch, except he turns gold into poops. His daddy can't save him anymore and he is being exposed. He is the luckiest GM that inherited a filthy team and won 3 cups and got the job because of his HOF dad. He did screw up the market for the defenceman. Luckily, QH is an RFA who can't even be offersheeted so he doesn't have much leverage. He can't be pointing to to be UFAs and say I want the same money.
  8. d Agree that Holland lost it. I mean, Nurse for 9.25 mil after one good season? But Oilers have a pretty good coach that knows how to play a structured game and places the guys in the right places so as to bring out their strengths while hiding their weaknesses. Barrie's defensive lapses were a bit less obvious in Edmonton (at least in the games that I watched) compared to his days in Toronto while his strength on the PP and moving the puck was very evident. Tippett may be able to use Ceci better in Edmonton than TO did.
  9. Well said. Makar followed the Calder winning season with Norris runner-up season. Hughes didn't progress much at all from his Calder runner-up season, in fact one could easily argue that he took a step back as you said. There's no way Hughes' camp can ask for 9 or higher. I'd be happy with QH at 7 mil x 8 years though. We overpay him by1.5-2 mil for the first few seasons but that should be a bargain deal starting around year 4. Would be great if we can lock up EP to 8.5 mil x 8 years too. We can use Makar as a comparable here actually. Makar won Calder, then became Norris level player. Petey won Calder. Definitely improved in his second season but nowhere near winning a major trophy like Hart or Selke. These two deals would set the cap structure in place for a long time. Horvat, Boeser, Miller would all come in at reasonable numbers. And as the cap rises once we completely exit COVID, I believe we will be able to have enough space to add a key piece (or two) that can push us over the hump to the cup.
  10. In a manner of 2 three-peats. NM is a hard working guy that demands others to work as hard. He isn't even the best player in the league like MJ was. The only current player that can draw parallel to Jordan is McDavid. But McDavid doesn't have Jordan's personality and may never win a cup at this rate. Jordan was the best offensive and defensive player of his era. McDavid isn't even a top 100 player defensively.
  11. There aren't any contender who has 11 mil in cap space. So whichever team offersheets him should be at the bottom half of the standings. I'd take 4 first rounders and run. As good as Petey is and will be, he isn't even close to being an 11 mil player yet. We should not repeat the mistakes made by Toronto, their downfall was signing Tavares to an 11 mil contract. If we sign Petey to an 11 mil contract before he wins anything, that will be our downfall.
  12. The logic makes sense. Lose a franchise player so go get a new one. But I would just convert Miller to center so that we get Horvat-Miller as the 2Cs. And find a scoring winger to replace Petey. I'd rather keep those 4 1st rounders, especially next couple years' depending on which team it is that offersheeted Petey. You are right but also note that 9.5 mil in Tampa is probably 11 mil in other cities. A former MVP and scoring champion who delivers in the playoffs is easily worth 11 mil. However, if Tampa is paying their players like other teams pay their stars, they probably don't get 2 cups. But I agree, the maximum we should pay for our star players if we ever want to win a cup is what Tampa pays Kucherov. If and when Petey gets there, we should keep him under 9.5 mil. That's why I would be happy to sign Petey to a long term deal now 8 years 8 or 8.5 mil.
  13. Yep. Those against this signing is unlikely to be a Canucks fan. Or more likely that they are anti-Canucks fan. They watch and follow the Canucks to criticize the team, the players, the management, the coaches, the media, and real Canucks fans.
  14. If we are fast, quick, tenacious while being skilled, I'm not too worried about the size. Just look at Tampa and their forwards. Not very big but they are fast, quick to puck, tenacious, and have tons of skill. One misconception is that adding one size makes the team bigger and tougher to play against. That's no longer true with the days of the enforcers long gone. Although, there still are predators like Wilson around and having a tough guys can deter threats from those predators.
  15. 4.25 + 5.75 = 10 / 2 = 5 AAV. Either 4.75 AAV is an arithmetic mistake or contract details are off.
  16. Yeah but he's an RFA that can't be offersheeted unlike Jones and Werenski who were about to get on the open market. In other words, he has very little leverage other than threatening to sit out the season. But I don't see him as that type of player. All JB has to do is to not make a lowball offer so as to insult him to not wanting to stay in Van long term. Just negotiate in good faith, point out that he doesn't have much leverage and get him signed at 5.5 on a bridge deal (i.e., Boeser deal) or 7ish on a long term deal.
  17. Somehow I feel like Vegas' run is coming to an end. Fleury has proven that he can get you wins. They severely undervalued Fleury's contribution to the team's success. Now that he's gone, if Lehner gets in a slump, they could be in a trouble. Vancouver Canucks the Pacific division champions of 2021-22? I hope so.
  18. Bit of both I’d say. JV should not have made the roster when he did. Management realized the mistake and tried to rectify it by sending him to the AHL for the whole season. But one season wasn’t enough. When he failed to dominate the AHL, the right thing to do was to keep him there. Give him more time to figure out his game and test himself against easier competition. So yeah I agree — I don’t think they handled Virtanens development very well and if they did he would be a serviceable third line player. But i still think the ultimate blame goes to Virtanen. So many people are dying to get opportunities that he got. Most of them don’t. He had six years to figure it out.
  19. Yes. 3 reasons. 1. Improvement from within. The young core will be better. Wouldn't be surprised if EP has a breakout season. 2. Depth everywhere. 3. Pacific division. The next question is, can we beat Vegas to make it out of the Pacific?
  20. Right and the team has the right players and young players on the trajectory to be like Tampa up front as well. 1. EP - Kucherov The skill and potential is there for EP to be like Kucherov one day. 2. Boeser - Stamkos Boeser can be a 30-40 goal scorer like Stamkos is now, although he will never be like 60 goal Stamkos. But TB didn't win much when Stammer was scoring 60 goals anyways. 3. Horvat - Point Yes, Point is much better player overall but Horvat's a playoff performer just like Point. 4. Miller - Killorn Miller is better overall but both guys use their size effectively to make plays. 5. Garland - Gourde Both guys are undersized but makes plays and are not afraid to go to the net to score. 6. Hoglander - Palat Hoglander's more feisty than Palat. 7. Podkolzin - Coleman Workhorse wingers that are responsible at both ends. 8. Dickinson - Cirelli Cirelli is obviously a better player at this point but the two are similarly good in the defensive end. 9. Pearson - Goodrow Not much of a gap -- if anything Tanner put up better offensive numbers. 10. TB had Johnson, Maroon, and Ross Colton to round out the 12F. We have Sutter, MacEwen, and Motte (as well as Highmore). I think Maroon brings size and toughness on a regular basis, something Mac hasn't been able to do just yet. Johnson is overpaid and Sutter and Motte are better defensively. Overall, not much difference in the make up of the roster up front. All we need is our young players to improve and reach their peak levels.
  21. Out: Edler, Beagle, Roussel, Eriksson, Schmidt, Chatfield,Holtby In: OEL, Dickinson, Garland, Podkolzin,Poolman, Schenn, Halak OEL > Edler Dickinson >= Beagle Garland >>>> Roussel Podkolzin infinitely better than Eriksson Poolman < Schmidt in puck moving/offence but he's good defensively and twice cheaper. Schenn > Chatfield Halak >= Holtby The team got much better. Most importantly, we have way better depth.
  22. That was a franchise altering move, getting a top 3 goalie in the league at the time, for a forward in decline after an unfortunate incident. OEL, if he recovers form, will be a true #1D that this team has never had. It could be a franchise altering move much like the Luongo trade you alluded to. Combined with Hughes, dynamic offensive defenceman that this team has never had, we've got an exciting dcore. It's exciting enough for me to want to get a season ticket. Looking forward to watching the young guys live, Petey, Hughes but also Pod and Hog as well as OEL and Garland.
  23. Lesnar? What's Lesnar got to do with this signing? :p
  24. Barzal can skate better than Petey. He is an elite skater with the puck on his stick like Patrick Kane although not quite at McDavid level (nobody is) and Barzal doesn't have Kane's shot. If Barzal were a winger and had to deal with less defensive responsibilities, he would put up more points. And the system that NYI vs Vancouver explains for the difference in points per game between the two players. Petey's defensive game is also solid. Petey obviously has a lot better shot than Barzal, he is already one of the elite triggermen in the NHL. And I personally think he's got creativity and vision ahead of Barzal. As a fan who admires both players, I really think the two play a different style and have different strengths. Like you said, 7 x 3 bridge deal for Petey and let's see if the Petey can differentiate himself from Barzal.
