[Signing] Canucks sign Tucker Poolman
khay replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Not disagreeing because I also thought Larsson could fit well here. But we are going for depth. If we signed Larsson but not the other two, one injury to Larsson and we have to reach for a Chatfield. Now, we have Poolman that can step in to top 4 minutes if there is an injury to Hamonic and Schenn that can step in for top 6 minutes if there is an injury to Poolman. I'm satisfied with the moves. Sure would have been nice to get Poolman on a cheaper deal, maybe 2 mil or 2.5 but a shorter term but he's only 27 so there shouldn't be any decline in play over the next 4 years. -

We are a middle of the pack team because our core hasn't reached their peak. Undo all the "mistakes" JB did, you think we are anywhere close to competing against TBL with EP, QH, and Demko? EP, QH, and Demko against Kucherov, Hedman, and Vasilevsky? And how do we even match up against Point, Stamkos, etc etc? Let's say we didn't sign Eriksson, Roussel, Beagle, and Myers. That's 18 million dollars in cap space. Who should we have gone after any UFAs that could have put us into the contender category by now? And please explain in a coherent manner why those guys would sign with us. -

This is just wrong. What you are saying is that Benning purposefully caused an accident (signed Poolman to 4 year deal at 2.5 mil) knowing there is an insurance (that he will suck)? Just read what you write bro. That's kindergarten stuff. -

Why is that not a good thing? Whatever move you make, you have to acknowledge that it could easily go south and in that case, you want a way out. Otherwise, you end up cornering yourself. It's like an insurance. You normally don't need it but on the off chance something does go bad, you need it. Good teams don't buyout? Maybe it's easier for them to just give up an asset to offload the mistakes/bad contracts. Look at Gotisbehere and Johnson for example. NYR bought out DeAngelo. NYR is a godly team that is rebuilt in a perfect manner according to some members of CDC. At this point, you are just looking for things to complain about. -
[Signing] Kings sign Alexander Edler

Sad. Good luck to Alex Edler. Thanks for your service. -
OEL has never played with elite players of Sedins or Petterson's caliber, well except on team Sweden. And on team Sweden, he has been one of the best players. I think he will excel and reach new heights. My prediction is 60 points in a full 82 game season if the Canucks find a way to put him and QH on the #1PP.

[Rumor] Brandon Sutter re-signing in van
khay replied to Bertuzzipunch's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Like Sutter when he's healthy. If we re-sign Sutter, I think we should get another versatile player that can play both wing and center in case he goes down with the injury. Kind of like Graovac. Play in the AHL and get called up to the NHL when there's an injury. -
I think some of his poor defensive metrics may be due to lack of motivation. Defence is the hardest part of any sport. When you are playing for a team that don't want you, well, you don't want to sacrifice your body out there for that team. My guess is that he didn't go full 100% in order to protect himself from any potential injury, which would make any trade involving him difficult. As for PP, I think the Canucks should look into having both QH and OEL out there. That would mean taking one of Miller, Horvat, or Boeser off the first unit. Not an easy choice but can't waste OEL on the 2nd PP with the shot that he's got from the point.

Yeah good job Francesco. After the moves that were made, I am seriously considering to purchase a pair of season tickets for the upcoming season (if the fans are allowed back).

Why did his value drop? He still seemed like a good player to me. The team sucked but the individual player didn't get worse. Vegas had to trade him. He had a M-NTC and there was a serious cap crunch due to COVID, shrinking the market even more. We were probably the only team that could accommodate him that was not on his M-NTC. Not going to complain about the trade too much since yes, the cap space is valuable and we are probably bringing in a player that fits the team/system better, that's all that matters.

He's a good player. Transitions the puck very well and he's quick to the puck. He is versatile and can play both sides. I think he will fit well with the Jets. We don't have any reason to help out the Jets, they have a better team than us. 3rd round pick seems a bit cheap. Vegas only traded him at that cost because of his M-NTC + COVID cap crunch and needing to urgently shed cap to get Pietrangel). I thought we actually have some cap space now to be more patient and work on a better deal. The only way this makes sense is if Petey and QH are signing longer and larger deals than anticipated and/or we have a UFA target.

[Discussion] RHD available on the UFA market

Schenn for 2 years is not a bad idea. With Schmidt gone, we actually need two RDs unless OEL can play RD. OEL- Hughes- Rathbone-Myers OJ -
(Rumour) Canucks concerned about a Pettersson offer sheet

Or Benning is playing hardball. He does that with the RFAs. -
Elias Pettersson | Quinn Hughes - Contract Discussion Thread
khay replied to Bertuzzipunch's topic in Canucks Talk
At this point, I'd be happy if the Canucks gave Petey a 9 mil x 8 years contract. Same dollar as Makar but we buy few more UFA years. Then, sign Hughes to a bridge deal around 5.5-6 mil. -
(Rumour) Canucks concerned about a Pettersson offer sheet
khay replied to cuporbust's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
No. As tough as it is to say this, we should get 4 1st rounders and walk away. But is anyone valuing him in the McDavid territory at this point? He might get there one day but to bank on that happening for any team, that's a pretty big risk. Any compensation below 4 1st rounders (< 10.27 mil), we should match. -

If they are not concerned, I'd be concerned. It's their job to be concerned about things like this so that they are prepared when it does manifest. -
[Report] Canucks G Holtby To Be Bought Out
khay replied to babalu's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Point taken. Edit: But we got a new guy Brad Shaw running the defence now. Maybe it will be different? -
[Signing] Capitals re-sign Alex Ovechkin
khay replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
OV is so gray. I serious wonder if he lied about his age and he is actually 45 or something. At the end of the deal, his true age will be 50. Amazing player. -

khay replied to babalu's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Agree. But mind if I ask why you think Rathbone or OJ will be gone for sure if Edler comes back? Rotating them in and out and letting them compete for ice time might seem like a good idea towards developing two rookie defencemen. -
[Report] Canucks G Holtby To Be Bought Out
khay replied to babalu's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I'm not sure about that. He took a team with a lot of potential and turned it into a contender that won 2 prez trophies and a Western conference champion. He made a lot of hard decisions, like keeping AV who was brought in by Nonis (previous regime). AV was able to turn his coaching style around 180 degrees and good on Gillis for being able to recognize AV's potential to grow as a coach. Yes, Gillis bared the farm but to say he took a contender isn't quite fair to him. And this is coming from someone who is blaming Gillis for not re-stocking the cupboards and causing so much pain for the fans 2015 and onwards. Gillis did a good job building the most successful team in the Canucks history. His ultimate downfall was undervaluing the importance of the draft in the cap era. -
[Signing] Canucks re-sign Conor Garland
khay replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
With all the cap space available now, I wouldn't be surprised if EP signs a long term deal 8.5-9 mil x 8 years.
