  1. Playing alongside Edler doesn't magically make Barrie's defensive game better. We need a defenceman that can actually help make 34 year old Edler better, not someone who will make Edler's life harder than it already is. Frankly, Edler looked overwhelmed trying to handle the Blues' first line with Stecher. I can't imagine how tough it's going to be for Edler to play with Barrie, whose defensive game is worse than Stecher's. IMO, Barrie is redundant since the prospect of OJ joining the team soon is actually more likely than not. 2 puck movers in Hughes and OJ should be good enough; we need guys with complementing skillset.
  2. We need someone that can handle opposition's best forwards. Barrie doesn't do that. The only potential UFA dman aside from our own Tanev that I would target is Pietrangelo. But Blues would be crazy to let him walk.
  3. Except for O'Reilly line. That line dominated. I think Edler-Myers can stand their ground against that line to certain degree but without Myers, I'd go to Edler-Tanev pairing and put Hughes with Benn. And it's either our first line versus their first line or we need an all defence line that will just eat up the minutes in our zone and do what you say, keep that line to the outside. And finally, we need to up our intensity. Game 4 intensity level was visibly lower compared to games 1, 2, and 3.
  4. lol. I think that experiment was over quite a while ago. But he can still be an effective player of his own. 20 goal scorer that can forecheck and hit. The experiment is not over.
  5. I agree but we need to load up the "4th" line to eat up minutes against O'Reilly line. We aren't winning without a plan in place against that line. The only plan that I can think of is to re-unite Sutter and Beagle together. Gaudette will need sheltering in terms of deployment; that line is not going to play more than 10 minutes anyways.
  6. We need to generate speed through the neutral zone to have success but the Blues seem to have figured out a way to slow us down. It's going to be interesting to see what adjustments Green makes. I guess it's time for Gaudette to draw in. Put Sutter back on the 4th line with Beagle and Motte to form a shutdown line against O'Reilly line since nothing is working anyways, might as well send guys out that are most reliable defensively. Roussel-Gaudette-Virtanen to forecheck and generate some speed. Eriksson comes out, MacEwen stays on the 2nd line. Ferland would have been really useful in this series, someone to bang the body and tire the Blues defence. Btw, if Pietrangelo hits the UFA market, we need to clear up some cap space so that we can at least make an offer. We need a defenceman that can handle opposition's top forwards to win a cup.
  7. There's no way we are winning this series unless we rough up (injure) O'Reilly. He's the engine of the Blues team up front.
  8. Sutherland is the ref. Marky complained about all the poking and jabbing from the Blues, what is the next thing that Sutherland does? Take McEwen for accidentally contacting Allen. Complain to Sutherland and this sociopath of a referee is going to listen to you, remember it, and look for an opportunity to call that very penalty against your team.
  9. The problem is that our best defenceman is Alex Edler. Although he is a very good defenceman, he can't handle O'Reilly. Losing almost all puck battles. On the other hand, their best defenceman in 27 can hold his own against our best guys.
  10. I was wondering this. Why did Roussel only get 7 minutes? Clearly not an injury so it must have been benching but for what? I thought we overplayed some guys and that's no way to win a playoff series.
  11. Thought the same. Going to be watching the game without much expectation. If the Canucks comes out with a win, it will be a pleasant surprise.
  12. Well, better be prepared for 6, 7 PPs against. I'm hoping they give us 2-3 PPs and that we capitalize on those.
  13. That's old core. I get a different sense from the current core; they know no fear. Should the Blues win, the young core will shake off any nervousness and take the series in 6 or 7. The only wildcard is Jake Allen. If he plays like he did in game 3, we could be in for some trouble. I'm hoping we blow Allen out of the net in game 4 and we clinch the series by putting 5 past Binnington in game 5.
  14. Only shots that beat Allen were perfect shots. I hope Binnington gets the net back tomorrow. The series could go the distance if Allen keeps up this level of play. Not Stecher's fault, well if he were more alert, he could have been known that was Hughes in on the forecheck and that there could be man wide open. But he was positioned where he was supposed to be.
  15. This makes perfect sense to me. This playoffs is unlike other seasons with more games and with back to back playoff games; it makes sense to use the backup goalie in a strategic manner. Putting Demko in for game 3 against Allen and resting Marky for crucial game 4 is exactly that moment. But I doubt Green does that; Markstrom is on a 5 game winning streak.
  16. lol I don't think they are smart enough to do that calculation. "Oh geez, Canucks are clicking at 50% rate and Blues at 10%......... Vancouver penalty for standing close to the boards."
  17. Pretty sure a similar play was called 5 minutes boarding against Daniel Sedin in 2013 playoffs.
  18. That's what the best 6 million dollar defensive right winger can do for you But seriously, having Eriksson on his wing has allowed Bo and Pearson to do a bit more offensively.
  19. I wonder if NHL keeps track of W-L stat for each referee for each team. I bet the Canucks are well below .500 on Sutherland ref'd games.
  20. I think Toronto's problem is team defence, not just their defencemen although it is also of concern. The 4 star forwards they have are similar type of players. When they had Kadri as 2C, I thought he complemented the top 6 rather well. Instead of Tavares, they should have just kept Kadri and add near selke level winger like Mark Stone or Loui Eriksson who is making Bo's line all that much defensively sound If I'm Kyle Dubas, I'd offer my 2021 1st rounder to Vancouver for Loui Eriksson. Put him on Tavares or Matthews RW and problem solved.
  21. Agree. Naslund trade beats all. Canucks franchise saviour whose number is hanging in the rafters. Regarding Pearson trade, it was like trading 20 year old junk of a car for a Corolla that can get you to places. JT Miller trade is like actually paying close to fair value for a new Porsche. Sure, the first trade is the better deal but Porsche is Porsche. Edit: sorry for the weird car analogy. I'm trying to move on from baseball analogies that I'm really horrible with.
  22. Linden Bertuzzi, McCabe, Ruutu Luongo, Henrik Markstrom Markstrom is the last remaining asset that started with drafting of Linden in 1988. This is pretty cool.
