  1. Ah I guess you are right but I think there is a fine line. Petey needs to score for us to win so, he's gotta just fight through those and find a way to focus on scoring.
  2. First one yes, Marky should have had it. The second one? Marky saw Edler was diving to cover the bottom of the net so as a goalie, he was just trusting his defender to cover the bottom and he covered the top half. It was a tricky/lucky shot by the Wilds player, which frankly, Edler should have blocked. Anyhow, we lost because our offence was terrible and our two biggest offensive threats (EP and Hughes) were nullified. They closed down Hughes' skating space and successfully engaged EP into meaningless physical battles. I think EP will know to not engage in needless physical battles in game 2. Let's see what Green does to counter Wilds players forechecking Hughes.
  3. That third line looks good and should do much more than yesterday. Rous didn't do much yesterday and Sutter provides defensive presence. I'd say Roussel comes out and the 4th line is kept intact.
  4. Bring Virtanen back into the lineup. A guy with size that can skate into danger zone is what we need against the Wilds.
  5. Wilds coach out coached our coach by a wide margin. We failed to generate any scoring chances in the 3rd.
  6. Yeah, honestly I'm a bit torn regarding Toffoli. On one hand, he might become a PPG, 30+ goal scorer like JT. Prior to coming here, Miller was exactly what Toffoli was, 55-60 point player. On the other hand, we have Boeser who is younger and already a first liner as well as plethora of youth coming up for 2nd line spot. And I'd much rather improve our defence through UFA market if at all possible. There is some chance that Pietrangelo may be on the market and it'd be shame to not even be able to tender an offer because he is exactly the last missing piece on this team: #1 RHD.
  7. Honestly, if Marky is asking for > 6, I'd let him walk. 5.5 is probably the maximum that I'll give and I'd try hard to get him in at 5 or 5.25. His NHL career was off the rails when we acquired him and we gave him 3+ years to learn and develop under Ryan Miller. I think if anyone should give us home town discount, it's Marky. If he refuses, I'd sign someone for under 4 mil and go with Demko + new guy as a tandem. I would try to keep Toffoli but not for more than 5.5 at no more than 4 years. If we lose him it won't be the end of the world. We traded for him to replace Boeser who was likely to be out for the regular season at that time but now Boeser is back and should take his place back on #1 line moving forward. We have guys younger coming up for 2nd line scoring role like Hogslander, Lind, Podkolzin. Virtanen showed that he can be a 20 goal scorer in this league. I think we will be fine without Toffoli. I think Tanev should be brought back unless there is a better replacement in the UFA market. A bit radical but I would honestly considering tendering 9-9.5 mil offer at Pietrangelo by letting Tanev and one of {Toffoli, Markstrom} walk. I think 2020-21 forward group should stay more or less status quo except for development within. But I'd do my best to upgrade defence. Edler-Rathbone Hughes-Pietrangelo Juolevi-Myers Benn
  8. JT-EP-Toffoli Pearson-Bo-Boeser Roussel-Gaud-Mac Motte-Beagle-Sutter Edler-Myers Hughes-Tanev Fanta-Stecher Marky Demko 3 if Canucks wins. 5 if Wilds win. 15 goals in 3 games or 17 goals in 5 games. Q. EP. 920. 1/1. Toffoli. No. Edler. 25%. 88%. Young Canucks either sweep the Wilds or the experienced Wilds take it to game 5, at which point, anyone can win.
  9. I think the Leafs will win... but if they don't, time for another rebuild in Toronto? Shannaplan 2.0? lol
  10. Sutter is signed for only one year though. Virtanen would have scored 20 goals this season... I think 20 goal scorer sweetener to move out cap with only 1 year left is a bit too much. If it were Eriksson and not Sutter, I might consider including Virtanen as a sweetener.
  11. Not much is short for "not much going on" I guess? Then, yes it is acceptable answer? I don't know Engislh.
  12. This is what I thought too. I guess KHL season is going to be underway sooner than NHL season, which will begin it's 2020-21 season in December? By the time KHL is over, NHL will be half way in to its season. We can still sign him and add him in mid season and it will be like a deadline acquisition at no cost.
  13. Draisaitl will win Hart, Ted, and have already won Art.
  14. I gotta say, I was impressed by AV's ability to adapt to new play style. I thought he'd be fired for sure and good on Gillis for keeping AV after he took over from Nonis. I'm not sure if we were "light" during Gillis/AV era. The team played physical when needed, up to and including 2011. Kes, Burr, Torres, Lapierre, we had some guys on the back end that weren't exactly small, Edler, Hoff, Salo (not tall but he had good size), Rome, Alberts and the guys that were slightly undersized, didn't play small, Hamhuis, Bieksa, etc. I thought that 2012 and on, it almost seemed like they were too worried about the refs and stopped playing physical/on the edge. That 2011 Canucks was extremely well balanced is what I'd say. They weren't the fastest team in the league but they moved the puck extremely fast. They were smart and skilled. They played physical when they had to. I can't remember for sure but I vaguely recall thinking that Tampa Bay team was actually even faster than us and similar skilled. I really wish it was TBL that made it to the SCF. That would have been a more fun series with speed and skill on full display. Boston Bruins on the other hand played extremely well structured hockey with collapsing defence that kept the Canucks to the outside and obviously a goalie that was hot. And they were pretty well balanced team with physicality being their main advantage over the Canucks. Although they weren't as well balanced as the Canucks, they took exploited their one advantage over the Canucks and with some help from the refs and the league, were able to beat us in 7. I do think the Canucks veered off course partly because of that series but at the same time, I think the main reason why we became slow and stale is because we basically had no one in the farm system that could come up and push the older core. It was inevitable that we got slower as our players aged and with no succession plan in place. The rest of the league was just brining young guys with fresh legs.
  15. That's 18 million dollars on bottom 6 players. It is a lot. But on the other hand, JB drafted Brock in the first place.
  16. Most of their core players are nearing the end of their prime years. Couture, Kane, and Karlsson are in late 20's, early 30's. Vlasic and Burns are mid 30's although I guess they are still good at what the do (Vlasic is a still an upgraded version of Tanev and Burns is still scoring at a decent rate). I'm doubtful if they can rebound next season and make the playoffs but it doesn't look like their management is ready to give up contending, after all they made it to the WCF just last season. So, I don't think they will agree to take on Eriksson's contract let alone give up Meier in the process just for Boeser and Demko. The minimum ask for taking Eriksson's contract is probably a first rounder. So it would have to be Boeser + Demko + 1st + Eriksson for Meier? But I do agree that Meier would upgrade our LW and if not for that weird contract structure, 1-on-1 trade with Boeser is worth considering.
  17. Good hire for the Wilds. Their team is getting older and would need to rebuild through the draft.
  18. Even amongst the teams that did circumvent the cap, there are only like two or three cases that were punished. The fact that most of these players went on LTIR rather than retiring can be seen as circumventing the cap. Everyone knows this and yet, the league is turning their cheek on this.
  19. WTF? lol I believe you but this has gotta be a joke. So Japanese central bank is printing money to buy their own government's bond? Abe is either a super genius or he is the biggest idiot in the history of Japan. lol Abe might be dumber than Trump. I'm surprised Japan's economy/currency hasn't collapsed yet or at the very least that their currency should have lost position as one of the key world currencies. If I'm trading with Japan, I'm not accepting Japanese Yen. Not sure why no one is shorting Yen.
  20. Japan 235%??? I thought they were one of the economic powers of the world? Is Japan on the verge of an economic crisis?
  21. lol those scumbag Chicago management sure would have tried. I agree, I don't think insurance companies would take fraud lightly and doubt that they take bribes. I guess now I believe that Hossa genuinely had allergic reaction to hockey equipment, especially if it was verified by an independent doctor hired by the insurance company. But a question remains if he really couldn't play or he could play if the salary was say, 5 million dollars as opposed to 1 million dollars. Is it a mere coincidence that his allergy problem became so severe right about when his salary became 1 mil? I still think cap-recapture is a form of selective punishment.
  22. Valid point but if he didn't bend the rules when our competitors were (e.g., Chicago), then he wasn't doing his job. Nonetheless, he was bending, not breaking the rules. If NHL were serious about punishing those that circumvented the cap, they shouldn't have turned their cheek on Hossa's and Pronger's. IMO cap-recapture is a form of selective punishment.
