  1. A single power transformer shouldn't be routing electrical power to NYC midtown as well as the upper west side.  One transformer catching on fire knocked out power in the heart of NYC and to at least 70,000 people.  That's ridiculous.  A simple redundancy elsewhere could have lessened or even eliminated the affected areas.  Watch their power company lie tomorrow and claim that there's nothing that could have avoided it.

@Nuxfanabroad Did he set up the old NYC's power grid?  If so, I didn't know that.  Needless to say, NYC has gotten much much bigger since he's been alive/dead.

Read something about him helping Edison(NY power grid?)..& that b*stard ripped off the poor guy. Guess they wound up arch-enemies over it?

I know Edison was a giant thieving d-bag, but I have no idea what initially built NYC's power grid.

Edison and Tesla also bitterly fought over whether AC or DC was the better solution.  Edison even famously electrocuted an elephant to try and prove his preferred method of generating electricity was better.

I do know that Buffalo had widespread lighting before NYC though.  ::D
