  1. This used to be @CanadianLoonie's favourite thread. Too bad he's not on CDC anymore or he'd be reveling in how well Bitcoin is doing.
  2. Urinating ‘Sketchy Dog’ Statue Appears Next to ‘Fearless Girl’

Artists are still unhappy about the fearless girl statue in NYC so one of them made a dog statue to pee on her leg.

Close, but that's not the point of the artist or the article.

      so what is the point?

It gives both of his points in the article that I have linked.

  3. Suuuuure you weren't. I did give you a serious answer to the question though just to cover my bases. To expand on that answer, I'm more interested in particular OHL players than I am specific teams.
  4. Do players in major junior leagues usually get rings when they win a championship or is that dependent on the owners to get them one like in the NHL? I'd imagine that most likely there's an occasional owner that would have a hard time affording rings for all of the players, coaches, etc.
  5. He's fishing for positive rep from people because I yanked some chains on CDC about Canada losing out on another Stanley Cup.
  6. I don't watch enough OHL games to have a favourite team. Even if there was a Swedish team in the league, I'd be fine if they won it.
  7. They're only an independent territory. They went into default about a year ago. Nobody is getting their money and they've had to cut their budgets into the bone.
  8. That means that it's dropped .11 percent in less than 6 months. Ouch.... http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/senate-defence-policy-sajjan-1.4105136
  9. I don't think that they went fully bankrupt though. Their debt was just restructured. They just weren't able to pay off the full amounts owed. With people that's considered a type of bankruptcy, with nations it's just a huge downgrade to their credit rating. If you want to see a bankrupt government, look at Puerto Rico.
  10. They came close, but they have gotten bailed out more than once. They are relatively poor in comparison to other some other European nations that are under 2% though. Especially Germany who are only at 1.19. Although I suppose if there's one nation in the world that you don't want to have a large military force, it would be Germany.
  11. 4.6 what? Not percent. Canada is just under 1%. *edit* I think I just got it. The US percentage and Canada adds up to 4.6. Took me a few minutes.
  12. All NATO allies are supposed to be spending at least 2% GDP on their military. Here's the current spending rate of NATO countries.
  13. No Canadian teams in the SCF.  All is right with the world!!

Canadian TV eyeballs are actually more valuable considering the Rogers deal is worth more than any deal they will get in US.

The US does present a larger market that presents more potential than the Canadian market ever will. The reason why there are only seven teams is because there aren't as many big cities in Canada as in the US. We could probably support another team in Montreal and one more in Toronto, but the Habs and Leafs would never let that happen. Heck you could have 3 teams in the GTA area and they would still do better than the Devils/Isles are doing in the New York market.

Don't forget the regional advertising dollars in the US.  That's what can really rake in the dough for teams.  That goes directly to population numbers.  For instance all 3 NY state teams are on MSG Networks so in between the over 8 million pairs of eyes in NYC you also have the sets of eyes in the western part of the state with the Sabres.  So with just 3 teams, that has the potential to reach and advertise to almost 1/3 of the population of all of Canada.

Having more teams in Montreal and Toronto wouldn't bring much more money to the league as a whole and like you said, it would cut the profitability of the Leafs and the Canadiens.

Canada could support plenty of teams no doubt if the league wasn't extremely profit driven.  I've never been anywhere near Halifax so I'm just guessing, but with a population over 400k even they could support a team I would think.  Or are they weirdo Canadians who don't love the game? ;)

  14. Start with the ranking(s) and comparisons to other armies and formulate your questions from there. Click on each country's name that you are interested in and you can get raw data (numbers) of equipment, personnel, economic ability to wage war, etc. If you wonder why Canada is ranked only 25 out of 127, look at your navy. It's nearly non-existent. It's why I keep harping that it should be Canada's highest priority. It would also be nice if Canada had a heck of a lot more tanks than it does. Also keep in mind that the list is quantitative rather than qualitative. It's not meant to be a "who would win in a war" kind of list. http://www.globalfirepower.com/countries-listing.asp

A well-known South African game hunter died after an elephant ravaged by gunshots collapsed on him at a Zimbabwe animal reserve on Friday, according to local authorities.

The guy made a living keeping endangered African wild animals in a fenced in area and led people on "hunts" for them so they could have a ridiculous trophy.  Meanwhile, these kind of animals that were once abundant all over the continent are now going extinct.

  17. She wishes! She only models lingerie, swimsuits, dresses, etc. She doesn't have the modeling chops to do gloves!

  20. Tetris is one of the biggest reasons that the original Nintendo Gameboy was such a big hit. I remember that coming out when I was 15-16 and playing it for hours on end. Then I discovered how fun the opposite sex could be and I sold off my Gameboy, Atari Lynx, Turbo Express with TV tuner, Turbografx-16 w/ CD-ROM player, Sega Genesis, and all of my games and have never bought a console since. That was 27 years ago.
  21. She took a chance doing that in Texas... lol
  22. All Oogly has going for her is her ability to take hits and her power. She was not nearly up to this challenge.
