  1. 1. The Sabres' biggest need is scoring forwards. That's why they overpaid Skinner. Anyone who watches the Sabres knows that. 2. Botterill openly said at the draft the other day that he would trade his second 1st rounder for an NHL player. Does that sound like a guy/team wanting more picks for their "basket"? Botterill has absolutely no use for more draft picks that won't be in the league until after he's fired. His seat is warming up now so he needs players that can contribute now. 3. The Sabres would not leave Risto exposed in an expansion draft. He's on a cheap contract and has worth in a trade. They aren't exactly teeming with players that should be protected. Their depth sucks and they could part with their entire bottom 6 tomorrow and replace them with cheap mediocre free agents and barely even skip a beat. In what world does having a top pairing d-man that you want to trade "turn into panic"?
  2. He wasn't POTUS yet. He was POTUS-elect. She's denying it now but she was jockeying for a cabinet position like everybody else on that list. Like it or not, it will hurt her with the far left voters in the Democratic party. Don't underestimate how tribal both parties are. As for me, I'd like to see her get more experience under her belt before I'd feel comfortable seeing her in the Oval Office. That said, I'm going to continue voting 3rd party anyways no matter who's up for election in either tribe.
  3. She met with the Trump transition team to kiss the ring by proxy when they were considering her for a cabinet position. She'll have a tough time wiping that stink off before the nomination process is over. https://www.axios.com/trump-transition-vetting-documents-leak-full-list-1b7c4f34-4681-4add-a5d1-7c1d19ef3aa5.html
  4. Where did you get those numbers and the state by state breakdown? I'd be curious to read the article(s). Also it's not just moderate Democrats, but how many moderate Republicans and moderate Independents in the swing states would have either stayed home or changed their vote had she run with Sanders...
  5. Not sure if it would have swung her the general election, but the cheating that Hillary and her party did was unnecessary. She would have likely won the primary anyways, but just with a smaller margin of victory.
  6. I've wondered that myself. Would that have brought in enough votes in the states that decided the election, and if she did run with him, would it have lost her moderate votes in the states that she won only by small margins. The electoral college makes hind-sighting some elections tricky especially when the loser has the majority of votes.
  7. Some states like Nevada are funded by gambling taxes along with high property taxes and aren't in need of state income taxes. Others are majority Republican states where over the years, the politicians would rather take on debt rather than lose their grip on power and since the Democrats already do so poorly at the state level, they won't risk what power they have. Instead they kick the can down the road and run deficits. Then you have high tax states like mine where when they do manage a surplus, the state capitol immediately decides to spend it and more in order to make their constituents happy that they're bringing in money to their district (which keeps them in power) which then throws the budget back into a deficit.
  8. What would be your fair solution? Lowering their cap is a non-starter.
  9. That's why I think Bernie would have lost bad to Trump had he won the primary in 2016 and would this time around as well if he beats the long odds and manages to secure the nomination.
  10. You can't set a lower cap for some teams compared to others. The NFLPA would flip out.
  11. No state taxes in states like Texas, Florida, and Nevada, etc.
  12. Must be nice to get that 0% state tax player discount. Really helps with the salary cap.
  13. Not sure moderates and independents will vote for him again now that they've seen how it went. The only ways I can see Trump winning is if he fires up the base into a frenzy which in turn brings in record numbers of conservative voters and/or the Democratic nominee is even more unlikable than Hillary or does something that completely implodes his/her campaign.
  14. New and different backfired with Trump so I think independents and moderates are more likely to go more towards establishment this time around unless someone like Buttigieg can get people excited enough to vote for him.
  15. I hope they trade him, but they may end up keeping him since he'll be worth the same next year, barring injury, as he is this year.
  16. Sure, but will it hold up if/when he becomes the nominee? Right now the Democrats have 25 horses in the race so any screw-ups are diluted to a certain extent. Once he becomes the nominee, all eyes will be on him.
  17. People just aren't getting it through their heads that the market demand for a player determines his worth. Risto is on a cheap contract for another few seasons and with the cap being 1.5 million lower than previously expected, his demand/worth just went up even higher. Add that to the fact that Botterill can't afford to screw up another trade so the last thing he'll be trading for is other team's extra parts and project players. He did that with ROR and we all know how that turned out. One of two things is going to happen with Risto. The Sabres will sit on him at least until the TDL or they will accept a can't refuse over-payment for him. Risto has 3 seasons left on his contract so when it comes down to it, the Sabres don't have an absolute need to trade him so if a team wants him they'll have to make a high offer.
  18. I don't think Bernie has a chance to become POTUS, especially after alienating half of his followers after acquiescing to and then backing Clinton last election. Biden on the other hand has a decent chance as long as he doesn't wimp out on anything or says something monumentally stupid that he can't take back.
  19. Too bad there's no actual boxing in bare knuckle boxing. Paulie is going to have a tough time living this one down. By all rights, this should have been a cakewalk for him.
