  1. We have a trade to announce: The Vancouver Canucks trade the 10th overall pick and EP40's first born son to the Buffalo Sabres for Rasmus Ristolainen!
  2. The arena has a lot of empty seats. What's up with that?
  3. An author in the Athletic made a funny article this morning picking on a bunch of teams. He said Bettman should let the arena boo him then reply, "you guys are a real riot"!
  4. Yep. He got boo'd in Buffalo pretty thoroughly.
  5. Poor Bettman. He's going to get roasted in Rogers...
  6. I've been telling all of you worriers on CDC for months now that EP40 was going to run away with the award. The 20 voters (out of the 171) that had him come in second should lose their votes for gross incompetence.
  7. They just might do that if they don't like the compensation being offered in the end. Risto has 3 seasons left so there's no rush to get rid of him this offseason.
  8. It's not so much that, I was being facetious when I joked about a bag of pucks, but many don't think he's a top-pairing calibre player.
  9. If you ask the 65% who don't think much of him? A bag of pucks. If you ask the 35% who believe in him? A lot. In actuality it's going to come down to who will offer the most for him. Demand always sets the price. Now that Trouba is off of the market, the teams that were gunning for him have now turned their attention to the Sabres and Ristolainen.
  10. Edler being nearly re-signed gives me hope that if the Canucks do somehow manage to get Ristolainen, they'll have the perfect d-man to pair him with. Edler can guide him in learning to make fewer mental mistakes in the defensive zone.
  11. This thread reads like an actual Sabres fan thread arguing about Ristolainen. From the analytics being thrown around to the exact same word arguments. Even the percentage is roughly the same 65% or so say he's not worth it, 35% give or take say he is. It's striking me as pretty funny. I wonder if it's the same on other interested team's message boards. I'd check HFboards, but that place is just too irritating to spend any length of time reading it.
  12. Daniel's father is a scout with the Canadiens. This is gonna make his next appearance in the front office a bit awkward.
  13. ROR's emotions are a 2 edged sword. It's what drives him to be the workhorse that he is and it's what won him the Conn Smythe trophy. The other side of that is that he does not take losing gracefully. It got him in trouble in Colorado and Buffalo. Darcy Regier, Tim Murray, and now Botterill is beginning to worry me a bit...
  14. The Sabres killed ROR's will to live play the game. He even said so himself. I was bummed out that ROR had to be traded after speaking out because he is exactly the kind of player the Sabres need sans the emo'ness. Risto has kept quiet and I have absolutely nothing against him personally, so wherever he goes (unless it's to the Bruins or Leafs), I hope he does great things.
  15. Ristolainen has played with plenty of good and bad defence partners and 2-way forwards over the last 6 seasons. He's played roughly the same anemic game. Would he do better in Vancouver? Most likely, especially if JB can manage to keep Edler. I just don't see Ristolainen ever being worth the current asking price. After watching almost every NHL game he's ever played in, I've seen him stall out in his progress for too long. Could it be past coaching, teammates, or just a badly needed change of scenery? Sure. No matter the reasons, I just want him gone from the Sabres. He's done all he'll ever do here. Dahlin is the future of the Sabres defence, not Ristolainen.
  16. No biggie either way. Just figured I'd give ya a heads up. Since it's a pro-Canucks thread, you have at least a solid 50-50 chance of it staying open.
  17. I apparently misunderstood what he was asking. I thought he was asking if Ristolainen could successfully pair with someone in Vancouver. That's what my answer was geared towards. If Edler stays (which from what I've read sounds unlikely) he'd be the guy to pair with Risto. Since you enjoy and understand advanced statistics, I'll give you a link to an article that a Tampa Bay writer wrote concerning Ristolainen. hint: They aren't fans of him either... https://www.rawcharge.com/2019/5/30/18645356/should-the-tampa-bay-lightning-be-interested-in-rasmus-ristolainen-buffalo-sabres-nhl-trade-rumors
  18. I wonder if this thread will last or get locked since it's not technically a player proposal...
  19. Barring sudden out of character 10-game win streaks, Tampa will beat the Sabres with or without Ristolainen, but I get your point. However my point still stands, Botterill and the Sabres need to boost the team now and if that means trading him to a rival who offers the best package then that's what they should do. The only team that the Sabres have any right to worry about right now is themselves. Could a Risto trade bite the Sabres in the butt? Sure. If you ask me though, he could also become a poison pill to whomever buys him.
