Perspective. Why stop there? Why not have the government go into full authoritarian mode and "militarize" the border with Washington, Alberta, and Alaska, and forcefully lock BC residents in their homes? That's the surest way of eliminating the virus in theory. Wuhan did it successfully .. if you believe the Chinese here. Anything else is a half measure we've already seen. The effectiveness of masks and distancing had reached their peak. BC tourism has taken a 70% scalping this year. Staycations aren't helping. At least if business resumed as normal with appropriate measures in place such as distancing and masks but still allowing business then less would be hurting financially. Sure, some people may end up in the hospital but the odds of death or a debilitating condition are incredibly small. It's a balancing act that can be achieved. The whole point of the shutdown was to prevent overwhelming the hospital system which was accomplished. Because otherwise the alternative is to maintain the status quo keeping everyone out, slowly but never fully open, hurt business, and wait for a vaccine which many if not most people will reject and we'll have what to show for it? What's next when that happens?
