  1. I want to keep our 1st round picks this year and next. Don't trade them. 2 and 3 years out we need talent on Elc's. To clearly see why this is important look at 2023/2024. To begin that year we need to pay Hoglander his first contract after coming off his ELC and both Horvat and Miller will be due raises. Without cheap talent we will be in cap trouble again. I am however willing to give up a 2nd 2022 and prospect to trade for Risto out of Buffalo. He wants to leave and has 1 year left on his contract before he is a UFA so I think Buff will deal on him. If we get Risto our D is looking better. His cap is 5.4 and we have room after letting Edler and Sutter go and buying out Virt and Holtby and sending down Eriksson and Roussel. Hughes vs Ehrhoff Risto vs Salo Schmidt vs Bieksa Rathbone vs Hamhuis Myers vs Rome Juolevi vs Edler Not saying the current 6 would be equal to the 2011 crew but the gap is closing...as Hughes Rathbone and Juolevi get better with experience. 2022/23 we have cap room to add to the top 9 through trade or free agency and our 2021 9OA should be ready to join as a rookie. That should be a good year.
  2. With Petey Bo RNH and Miller we would have 4 legit centers to cover 3 positions. Depth for injuries. Miller and RNH and Petey can all be effective on the wing. Again depth and versatility in the top 9 when Greener gets the blender going. Miller Horvat and Beagle are very good face off guys. Petey gets protected. If RNH is below .500 it's not great but that's a minor issue IMO in the context of a team where 3 out of 4 lines are winning the majority of faceoffs. I like what he would add to our top 9. Not to mention he's a great teammate, not a d-bag and he wants to win and is only 28. We should not be trading picks or prospects at this point to add to our roster. Getting a guy like RNH for free, at the right contract, would be a great add.
  3. Yes we may have to offer less but - RNH lives in Vancouver in the offseason. He has friends and family here. I am confident he wants to play here if the money is reasonably close. It's not a slam dunk but I don't agree with people who say he isn't a good player or a good fit. I believe he is both of those and would be a great add if it works.
  4. Alf We clearly have money for RNH or a UFA defenceman like a Larsson but not likely both. So for next year it is a choice. The year after there is more money to add again. This year Sutter and Edler out, Holtby and Virt bought out, LE and Rouss sent down and there is about 10.5M to sign 5 players. One of which can be at about 6M one backup goalie at 1.5 to 2.0 and the rest lower end. So I am in favor of talking to RNH if he makes it to free agency and seeing what he wants. We don't give up any picks or prospects and we get better IMO.
  5. 1. Petey 2. Horvat 3. RNH. Or he plays 2nd line wing for us. Versatile guy. I get you don't like him but I do. He would make it our 8th out of the top 9. That gives a decent chance next year for one of Motte Lind Gadjovich Lockwood or Highmore to elevate their game into a legit 3W position and complete the top 9. The following year more money is available to add more . But for next year this would be an improved top 9 lineup and I think you need to consider adding RNH if he wants to come on the right contract.
  6. 14 points in 21 playoff games. (Curious you point out 3 goals but leave off 11 assists). Oilers have been lousy for a long time so they have very little playoff experience. Small sample size but at .667 points per game you can't say Nuge is lousy in the playoffs based solely on that 21 game sample. Look, I think the guy is hugely versatile and very capable of getting the Canucks 50 points a year from 3C or 2W. Given a larger playoff sample size he might continue to get .667 points per game in the playoffs. I stand by my contention that as long as you don't over pay this is a very valuable guy. People want to trade picks and prospects to get someone like Reinhart. Fine, he's a good player. But you surely have to consider the alternative of getting someone like RNH for free if the contract is reasonable.
  7. No I don't, not at all. I'm just pointing out something fans often forget when they focus on what the Canucks might offer. There are a dozen teams with high picks who could all be interested in trading for Jones. We have the 9th best pick to offer. Other teams may add a better package as well. That's all. I think you underestimate the competition there will be to land this guy.
  8. Probably a third of all teams in the NHL will be interested enough to make a pitch for Jones. So he won't come cheap. No way 9OA plus Schmidt plus Lind is the winning bid. We would have to give up Hogz or Podz not Lind. Plus resigning him won't be cheap. He is gonna want a big payday. Columbus is not in a weak position just cuz Jones says he won't resign. 10 teams will take a run at this and they will get a big price from the resulting bidding war.
  9. You don't overpay for RNH but if he signs for the right price you absolutely take him. Nux have 7 of their top 9 with the addition of Podz. Nuge would make it 8. What is his biggest attribute? Versatility. Plays PP, PK good 200 ft game, playmaker, goal scorer, can play 2C or 3C or wing on any of the top 3 lines. At the right price you absolutely do that deal. But no - you don't over pay. So let's see what he wants before you dismiss him like Old News. Old News just acting like an old man yelling at the clouds again lol!
  10. If Clarke is still available at 6 and if Detroit wants Wallstedt there could be a deal to trade with them and move up to 6. Wallstedt is likely still there for them at 9.
  11. Think about it stawns. Benning and Green have contracts for 2 years. Benning has said we will be a contending team in two years. Svech has signed with SKA for two years and is not available until April 30 2023. Not a chance he is the pick this year. Sure he is a good player but you've missed the plot here partner.
  12. Always interesting to listen closely to what Benning says. He tends to tip his hand. They will look at trades but they want a young player. Makes sense. You need to acquire someone in the same age group as the core. Otherwise just pick a guy at 9 who will join the core in a year. Also he says there are 9 guys we really like. Very telling. I think Power, Berniers Clarke Hughes Guenther McTavish Johnson Edvinsson Eklund are the 9. They will see what deals are available and then on draft day either take one of the 9 they like (depending on how far up the list is available) or try to swing a trade for a young impact player and lower draft pick. It's why draft day deals happen. Teams need to see who is available at 9 both on the buyer and sellers end.
  13. I agree with you. Benning has an aversion to outright lying. He always kind of tips his hand when answering. I think they are looking to trade the pick for a player to help them now and drop down to a lower pick. Will be interesting to see. That all changes of course if one of the players they really want falls to them at 9, I suspect.
  14. Sad when you're happy just to not drop again lol. 9th ok. Were gonna get a good player!
  15. No. Time to move on. He will only get more and more stale from here on.
  16. I hope that we change Baumgartner for next year. It is critical with Hughes Juolevi and Rathbone all developing together that they get top D coaching. What could be more important to their development and reaching potential than that? And I don't believe they have received top coaching to date.
  17. Lol. Every Canuck fan remembers that game well. Perimeter shots. No real chances. Not really in it. Boston was full value for the win that day. You are misremembering partner. But big balls for the attempt to rewrite history. Lol.
  18. The Leafs have not won a series since 2004. Think about that. We live in a world where the Toronto media has made us all forget that is what actually has happened.
  19. Bingo. Plays wing and Centre. Good all over the ice. If he can be signed without costing anything but cap you have to do it. He is 28 so a 5 year deal is 28 29 30 31 32. All good years, little risk. Local guy, lives here in the offseason, has a ton of friends in Vancouver. Will fit in well. Good team guy, not selfish. The guy gets 50 to 60 points a year. Don't have to trade our 9th overall and can sign this guy? You absolutely do it. Remember in 1 years time nux have an additional 12M coming free. Find the space this year.
  20. I think it is very possible that Benning tries to trade for Reinhart. Remember Benning tried to trade for Reinhart at the 2014 draft but said the price was too high. I don't doubt he will take a look at it again. 25 years old is a good fit with our core. I don't like trading a top 10 pick but depending on who is available if this deal presents itself without too much in add ons (probably a roster player and prospect) then I can absolutely see it happening.
  21. He's getting paid 3m per year to be their star on the panel. You got a better gig right now partner?
