what grade (1 to 10) would you give Travis Green?
fanfor42 replied to grouse747's topic in Canucks Talk
It drives me crazy when people point out the shortcomings of the assistant coaches but support Green. Partner, Green picked his assistants. One of the keys to assess a head coach is the quality of the assistants he picked and the success of the entire group in producing a winning team. Last year the Canucks were .565, so far this year .466. Let that set in. Some of that is certainly on Benning. But some of that is on Green as sure as the sun comes up tomorrow. -

Green gets a 6. Not disastrous but clearly not enough to reward him with a new contract. He cut his NHL teeth and did an ok job. But there is no mojo in him. And his time here is drawing to a close. To take the next step we need a new coach who can command respect with his resume and show this team what they need to do to come together and take the next step to become a contending team. -

I note that Rob Zepp on here has many times questioned Tryamkin's ability and quoted his sources. I am not saying anything new. It seems some people here want to defend Nik which is fine. But don't attack others for having an opposing view partner. Discuss. 27 year old prospect with 1 year of NHL experience is not a slam dunk can't miss prospect. Why do you think he will have success? I would love to be convinced. if you followed my comments I am asking the question more than giving a certain opinion. Why do you think Nik will be an impact player on his return?

With all due respect, I think Button knows more than you. The KHL is not underrated. It has long been a place where guys like Linden Vey flourish after failing to stick in the NHL. Try will be 27 this fall. He has 1 year of NHL experience. I hope he can be an impact player, but Button thinks not. BTW Donnie Taylor is not sold on Tryamkin either. I get that you are a big Tryamkin fan but others think he may not be an impact player if he returns to the NHL. Simply listing his stats for the past 4 years does not give your argument more credibility. We can all see his KHL stats. The question is interpreting what they mean in the context of the NHL? Fact is he may or may not be an impact player when he returns. You think he will be. Others are not so sure. I hope Nik comes back and is a difference maker. I wish you could accept other people having an opinion on this that differs from your own without the bolding, name calling nonsense that frankly makes you look a little silly partner.

What's next partner, you gonna yell all in CAPS? Lol. Look, I like Nik and hope he can be an impact player. Button thinks he is a depth guy who the Canucks should wait on signing as he thinks better players will be available in the summer. That's all. It's a discussion. No need for hysterics,

Hamonic signed with us for 1.25m. Does anyone expect Tryamkin is better than Hamonic? Is he better than Myers or Schmidt? I don't think so but if anyone disagrees please speak up. If he is not better than these guys he is a depth signing on this team. If he is a depth guy, if you sign him at 2 to 2.5 you may be passing on the chance tosign a much better player at that price sometime this summer as it all plays out. If you think he can be a legit top 4 that is fine but if you don't think that why would you jump to sign him at 2 to 2.5 when waiting could produce a better asset? He bailed on us not the other way around. I expect he will wait to see how it all plays out before he re-signs in Russia - as that is his only option for next year if we don't sign him. So I think time is on the Canucks side not the other way around. Is he a top 4 or a depth guy? That really is the question. For me I think he is a depth guy with physicality which is a nice add at the right price. That is how I remember him playing for us a few years ago on a worse team than we are today. But IMO he is not a sign him regardless of price type of player. Up to 1.5m. Ok. Not more.

nux 3 to 2 Horvat -
Vesey's audition has been a bust. Would love to see Lind or Gadj get a couple looks. Of course that's a bridge too far cuz guys like Vesey have played in the league and so in Green's mind they give us a better chance to win. Ok up until now - but seriously going forward let's stop. The guy was flushed by TO and was given a great chance here and showed nothing. 0 points. Would Brindamour or Gallant have the same take? That's really the question. Green reminds me of Willy with Vey. Play the plugs who have 40 - 80 games in the league over up and coming guys because the unproven guys can make you look bad as a coach. Experienced coaches have learned that lesson and moved past it.
-
Bad loss. I know some people think Green is a good coach and should come back. I don't know if he will be back or not. But we are a bubble team that has games like this often where we don't look ready to go and get outplayed. I am in the camp that a new coach with real experience is what we need. That's all. This is no knee jerk. Long term watching these guys do the same herky jerky over and over again. I want a coach that commands respect and the players will go to war for. Green is like the woke Oscars...ok but really not a classic.

No knock on you but if Button is actually right and Tryamkin is over hyped by this market and in reality is only a 5 to 7 guy, then what do you sign him for? Just saying "sign him" is ok - if the price is reasonable. But I'd guess Tryamkin wants more than 700k to 1.25m which is what 5 to 7 guys are getting paid right now.
-
The point of my post was not so much whether Tryamkin should be signed but that Button thinks he is not good enough to be a top 4 guy. He sees him as a depth defenseman and he says the Canucks can't waste roster spots on guys like that - they need difference makers. (His words). I am not saying I agree with him. It was just a very clear take that he does not see Tryamkin as more than a depth 5 to 7 in the NHL.
-
Craig Button was recently on Donnie and Dhali saying that there is no way the Canucks should move to sign Tryamkin in the short run. He feels Nik is a depth defenseman and does not have the talent to play top 4 minutes. He says better players will become available this summer due to cap issues the expansion draft and free agency creating opportunities. He feels the Canucks should wait and they will get a better player than Nik. I was surprised to hear him saying this. Not sure if he is right. But he was absolutely clear on his opinion. No ambiguity at all.

"These" uniforms again. Blah. Stop trying to sell 5 extra uniforms that nobody wants. -
Yes that's from a while ago. Did you read Deb's post from a few minutes ago which is what I was referring to?

I hope this is not Toronto media being their worst and creating speculation for their own benefit. Having said that, if Petey is actually determined to be out for the season I suspect we will finally get told what the deal is.

Capfriendly shows MD as being an emergency loan up to the big club today. Any idea if there is something amiss again with either Holtby or Demko?
